This happens from time to time. I too had to correct the SFW AID data to match the PDF turn results for the last D26 turn.

By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - 09:14 pm: Edit

John,
The next time that happens. Please Email me immediately. I want to see if it is the SFW Aide or the SFW Aide files that is the problem.

Hay Paul

Got this in a E-mail about the next DH game.

2) Starting year is Y160.

Is that a misprint? If not will we still get a WG? The WG year of availability is 165.

Thanks
IKE

By Ken Cole (Kencole) on Monday, October 11, 2010 - 01:56 pm: Edit

I figured it was just to make things interesting. All builds at the HO for the first five turns.

Perhaps the compromise is that you get the WG you start with but can't buy any more until Y165. You really have to think about which direction to send it in. You won't have the luxury to send 3 of them in different directions.

Seriously, lack of WG's or even limited WG's will push back the first kills, 3-5 turns. It keeps more people competitive longer.

Certain strategies would change. You'd see a lot more F, K, R, Z, L, H in use due to their wide assortment of early ships.

On the other hand I'm sorry to see that we don't get to choose a sector special.

By Roger Rardain (Sky_Captain) on Monday, October 11, 2010 - 05:28 pm: Edit

Aye, the lack of choosing a Sector Special kind of sucks, since we didn't choose one in D27.

I'd rather see a starting date pushed 5 years the other way to Y170, to have the better ships sooner in the ships with limited fleets (T, S, W)

At least it is an Event game, though.

Is D26 close that close to completion? We just sent in for Y192, so 4 turns (8 weeks) to go.

By Kirk Petty (Zugzwang) on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 - 10:44 pm: Edit

I like the idea of a Y160 start A lot of us will have alter our opening strategies with no Warp gates for 5 turns (or even with just one) This should be fun

By Ken Cole (Kencole) on Thursday, October 14, 2010 - 01:39 pm: Edit

Roger,

D26 is close enough to being over that the overlap won't hurt. Looking at the timeline, D26 will finish just as you're getting the first scans outside you sector.

Kirk,
I don't mind altering my opening strategy either, I just want to be clear on what rules are changed.

Paul,

Can you please confirm:
Starting date.
Status of WG's
Game length (30 turns?, or Y195?)

By Roger Rardain (Sky_Captain) on Thursday, October 14, 2010 - 08:58 pm: Edit

Ken,

I realized that last night. Die Hard games do have a fixed deadline, and I mis-counted.

I still dislike the Y160 start date.
Primarily because not being able to buy any WGs in the Initial Build will cause a ponderously slow game at the start.
The G83 start conditions were modified expressly to speed up the start of the game. And now we want to SLOW DOWN the very next Die Hard game???
Why?

By Ken Cole (Kencole) on Friday, October 15, 2010 - 10:22 am: Edit

Roger,

I can see reasons for speeding up a "G", regular game. Those games live fast and die young. The nature of the setup and victory conditions make "G" games a race. (one of the reasons I don't play them anymore)

DH games on the other hand already start faster than regular games (extra EP's in initial build, picking events, sector specials, tend to making corps stronger faster). But due to victory conditions are much longer horizon games.

By limiting us to our at start WG and early builds, the first corp kills will be set back 3-5 turns. If 10 corps (out of 16) are eventually killed off (but an average of 4 turns later), that is 40 more turn fees for Paul ($160) without raising turn fees. I have no objection to Paul making the game a little more profitable.

Other interesting side effects include:

It keeps more players competitive longer. Not a bad thing.

I'm inclined to think a slower start nerfs some of the advantages that the DH veterans have.

Andro's and Lryans are hit with the nerf bat. As Andros don't appear on the scene until Y166, and Lyrans won't get PF's until Y180 (and then only have a few years to use them).

Paul has told me that we wont have any warp gates until year 165 . I think you have stated it very well Ken.

By Isidore Baker (Cloudmasters) on Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 11:39 pm: Edit

So it's the anti-ike game. Hit the andros lyrans and Seltorians.

By Isidore Baker (Cloudmasters) on Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 11:40 pm: Edit

Not that i'm saying its a bad thing.

LOL yes a testimony to your prowress no doubt

Paul,

In D28 I saw the following battle report:

Hey, that sure was easy! The Nasty Space Monsters (998) Corp had nothing defending XX-XXXX, so
our superior crews had a field day sacking the site. Maybe T-WT "Resistance-1",
I-DD "Auspicious-1" was too much to send in for this mission!

At first I didn't think much of it, but then I realized that for the Corp to take the site from Nasty Space Monsters, Nasty Space Monster would have had to move previously to take the neutral site.

This was on the Y166 (Turn 1) report. Am I mistaken, or are player sector Monster not supposed to move on the first turn?

I'm not sure if this is a major issue, but it struck me as odd.

Ken,
Sorry. I goofed. The monsters should not have moved for Turn 1. I will note it for the future.

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - 08:06 am: Edit

When I download the reports for my turn, the pdf named "sites" is blank.

By Ken Cole (Kencole) on Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - 04:28 pm: Edit

Terry,

At a certain point (I don't know the exact number), you begin to have too many sites to list at the start of your turn and the information for all of your sites at the end of the turn is then found in the "sites" pdf.

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Thursday, March 03, 2011 - 04:44 am: Edit

Oh, OK. Haven't got to that point yet ;)

By Arthur J. De Laura (Klingondog) on Thursday, March 03, 2011 - 02:56 pm: Edit

Terry

It`s 25 sites or more..

The list will be just before your ship list..

I purchased some ships at a warp gate last turn and it failed, telling me I had no warp gates.

Terry,
I will look into it and Email privately the cause of the issue.

Hey Paul,

All the links on the downloads page of the new website appear broken.

May just be a Firefox thing, but you should check.
