Anybody having Trouble with the Renaming command with the new Aide.
Typing the next cell (Part 1 to 6) just gives the first four letter as with a command, and typing in the "Long" cell seems to lock down the aide. I have to delete the text, then re-size the window to be able to get to another cell.
No big deal, just had an extra order to fill and thought I would rename my Home Office.

i had a simular problem using the ME command. extra command like you said, no biggie. i sent the turn as is.

Gene,
Sorry that was an oops on my part. I forgot to execute the first turn differently in the engine.
BTW, guys I will be releasing an updated client this week that will solve the "Long" cell issue.

Paul,
before you release the update i have some ideas for the Aide i'd like to talk to you about.
Gene,
i know that sucks (can i say that?) as it takes so many turns to corner him. i've had it happen in the past. hopefully you get him before he divides! i can send a fleet into your sector to take him out if you need the help!! hahah
By Gene Malin (Privateer) on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 11:33 pm: Edit |
Thats OK Lloyd, he came to me. Was way out in the hinterlands, he dies this turn now that I know which way he's going.
And I thought I was sending a fleet to your HO?

Hi Paul,
I used an old home fax machine to send in my DH30 turn Sunday. Did you get it?
Thanks,
Gene

hey Paul!
can double-turning still occur? i know some use it as main strategy, but i have an idea for stopping it from happening. the players wont like it but it will keep the balance of the game intact. with the speed of email there is no reason (other than dbl-turning) for tardiness.

All the turns run on the same day.
By Gene Malin (Privateer) on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 - 08:29 pm: Edit |
All the turns run on the same day, so you can't double turn anyone anymore. And with the demise of the SX paint, you can't crush a opponent before he even knows what hit him. I like both fixes.
I won't lie, I used both methods, not because I started them, but because to compete against an enemy who used them, you had to do the same to survive.

yeah, i guess turn processing was delayed. found another bug in the Aide!

Hey Paul,
i have a question about repair ships and am in need of data confirmation.
there are 8 *smR* variant ships in the game. the F-FLG(FF) and K-G4(PC) both apparently have a repair capacity of "1". do all the *smR* ships have only "1" repair? is this an error? or is it because they split resources with the *sm* abilities? some are bigger then frigates. these should be full "R" variants as there is no limited variant.
even generic ships that switch to the "R" ability get more than that. (ex- PCs=3, FFs=4, DD/DWs=6)
can anyone confirm the current repair capacity of the other 6 *smR* ships?
By Lloyd Bangs (Ninja1) on Wednesday, March 07, 2012 - 07:15 pm: Edit |
can anyone verify the repair capacity of these other ships? (XX) shows what i have down now.
C-FRS(8)
C-FRL(20)
C-FRD(50)
I-CPF(2)
A-RS(6)
T-PR(3)
i didnt realize how few true repair ships there are!
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Wednesday, March 07, 2012 - 07:19 pm: Edit |
All of the smR ships have a repair of 1, except the I-CPF which has 2. Why that is the case, I have no clue.
Is this an error? I do not know.
By Lloyd Bangs (Ninja1) on Wednesday, March 07, 2012 - 07:29 pm: Edit |
it must be because of the additional "ms" limited variations. that extra equipment takes more space so they cannot carry as many spare parts. these are small ships.
the I-CPF is a CL and can carry more. according to the list its variants are "mSR", a little nicer.
By Gene Malin (Privateer) on Wednesday, March 07, 2012 - 11:02 pm: Edit |
The CPF is a bigger ship. Lloyds right.

This is an email I just sent Paul. Thought I would post it here to see if anybody else was seeing anything like this with the new aide.
Paul,
As I said I was having some trouble with the aide last night. I followed up this morning with a little more testing, so I will try to explain what I am seeing. Also, I hope that I was able to get a set of orders emailed to you last night that will function. If not I will try to have an email ready to go that will need to be manually entered.
The basic issue is that for y175 orders, once I open the orders window and close it, I can then not open it again. I can open any of the orders for the earlier years, but not the current one. It does not matter if I make edits and save or simple open the orders window and close it with no changes.
Here are the things I have tried to test the failure. I have worked through these same steps on a Vista PC Laptop and a MAC OS 10.6, with the same results on both computers.
1. Reloaded aide software.
2. Downloaded the SFBWL zip file again for fresh file to work with.
3. Created a new player and imported new file.
4. With new player import last turn rather than current (works fine).
The results are consistent in all cases of reinstall and new players created and both PC and MAC.
A. All zip files before current (y174 results, y175 orders) work as expected.
B. In all cases it results are as above for y175 orders window locking after being close once.
What I am unsure of is if the file I sent you last night will work. I opened the orders window, entered data, and then saved. I just have no way to confirm that the data was retained in the saved file. While I would prefer not to have to, I can get you the orders for manual entry if needed. I will just have to get them typed out.
I am interested to see if the same thing happens with the y176 orders. The only thing I see different from y174 to y175 is two Custom Ships were added with the "Q" in the ship name. Do not see that being the issue, but it is the only major difference. The report and the giff files of the sectors show up correctly, so it does not seem like a corruption issue. In truth, this one has me stumped.

I was having the same issue with the orders tab glad to see it wasnt just me.
By Lloyd Bangs (Ninja1) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 01:52 pm: Edit |
I hopefully got my orders right! i tested mine as well and found to have the same issue. not able to reopen y175 orders. the only way was to create a new player and start orders over. once saved/closed it could not be reopened for changes.
it will be interesting to see our results this week!
could it be the CUSS ships? Kirk do you have Q ships too?
we need to find out if any players without Q ships had this trouble.
By Lloyd Bangs (Ninja1) on Monday, March 12, 2012 - 01:55 pm: Edit |
if someone has time try checking the old DOS version to see if it also has the same error. we will need a backup in case this issue cannot be quickly resolved.

I have not been able to get the new aide to work. Have an old computer I use for the DOS aide, it works fine.

no i didnot buy q ships
By Paul Franz (Andromedan) on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 - 05:55 am: Edit |
Guys,
What happens if you quit the Aide and then come back in? Can you bring up the orders then?
By Jeff McKlevey (Low) on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 - 07:40 am: Edit |
Nope, once it is open and closed once it is toast. Only starting a new player allows to it open again, and then it is of course Blank.
By Lloyd Bangs (Ninja1) on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 - 12:07 pm: Edit |
same here.
could the common factor be the Q ships? i never bought Q before.
had others not mentioned it i wouldnt have known. i dont really use the aide until my orders are 100% on paper. so its type-type-N-email.
hopefully the error will not continue, it could be a single turn glitch.
please post your findings.
