Today I did some admin work on the Shapeways stuff. Ships that had been approved were moved up to the archive topic and the memory hogging graphics removed. A few new ships were posted. I also processed five ships for ribbon points.

This is an esoteric exercise. Just making a comment "looks good" or some such gets you one point, but it will take a bunch of points (25?) to get the lowest ribbon. Even so, I want to encourage you to look at every ship just in case somebody, someday, sees something nobody else saw.

Actually finding a mistake gives you 10 points.

Comments on various aspects of miniatures development and various ideas for future minis gets a point even if not about that ship (since it educates the customers), but seventeen chatty junk posts in one topic get you a total of one point, not 17. (No running the score!)

Off-topic comments don't count for anything, but don't count against you. If you have a question, ask it, no penalties for that.

ABOUT THE POSTED IMAGES

I have been meaning for some time to give you guys a few clues about how this works.

Because every sculptor uses different software I get the images from them in different formats.

In theory what is supposed to happen is that the sculptor sends me a 1400 pixel wide clean image with a white background and no text i can use for clip apart to illustrate Captain's Log. Then I reduce it to 700 pixels (the widest that the BBS can digest without blowing it's noodles) and add copyright text (so these don't become food for the refrigerator magnet industry).

In practice, things get crazy. Will sends 1400 pixel photos with copyright notices which saves me a step in posting (thanks!) and it's easy to delete that from the clip art copy (if I ever get around to doing that). Steve sends me 720 pixels often without captions and these require trivial work. Matt Lawson sends me whatever size fits but usually with captions, and it's easier to resize than add captions so I'm good. Chris sends me good images of various sizes but I have to paintbucket the gray background.

None of the sculptors are doing anything wrong nor do any of them need to change anything they are doing, I just wanted you guys to understand why things are sometimes different. Sooner or later I'll ask all of the sculptors who don't send me 1400 pixel images to send those, but no hurry and I have plenty of busy work to do.

I don't always post every photo they send. I need all they send because I have to check details, but you guys don't need 14 images of the ship when you can do your thing with four.

The other day when some really big images got posted and the BBS lost its noodle I was just in a hurry and forgot to resize the images.

Andrew C, allow me to help...

I think Andrew's designs would be wasted on the current 1/2 inch scale but we could do a line of larger RPG scale shuttles based on his concepts or other empire-specific concepts.

WILD WEASEL
Don't blame Lawson for this one; it's my idea.
Despite being in two colors, this would print as a single complete unit. Paint the "belt-disk" in funky colors for electronic noise.

I have a lot of ships that should have been posted over the last two weeks. I set up topics and will strive to get them posted today, but I'm only going to be here for a short time before yoga and then won't be back until after noon.

I have a Qari, Lyran DNH, another Lyran, and some Jindo stuff I won't post until next week as Jean says she's buried in work and cannot do more ships this cycle.
