Then we have this....

Hydran RPG Figure.jpg

I have given some thought to SFU miniatures for RPG games (species character miniatures and boarding party miniatures, HVY weapons, vehicles) what would the size be, the scale.

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 10:31 am: Edit

That is a strong look.

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 10:36 am: Edit

The old TFG Fedration Marine miniatures were 25mm heroic (so really 30mm) and the older Traveller figures were 15mm so they fit on the Deckplans well. The FASA ST:TRPG miniatures were 25mm with small bases so they fit on 15mm bases. The LUG ST minis were 25mm and the newest ST minis appear to be 30mm heroic. The Heritage ST minis were 25mm. The other consideration is what scale minis are needed for the Tribbles game and KRAG? or whatever other boarding party combat game that could come to the SFU.

Ooohhh a Tholian in FUD painted clear orange with and LED.

I don't play RPGs, but would buy some of these for my gaming shelf. The Hydran looks cool.

By Steve Zamboni (Szamboni) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 11:10 am: Edit

I was tinkering with a Tholian, I never thought about making it clear...

By Tony L. Thomas (Scoutdad) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 11:32 am: Edit

Ugh... Why start with a Hydran?
Do something cool like a Lyran or Kzinti!

:O

Although if it were hollow and filled with catnip - it would make a great toy for my wife's cat!!!

If you cannot see how awesome and sexy that beautiful Hydran is you are beyond hope.

No, there is nothing wrong with me. Why do you ask?

By Matthew G Lawson (Mglawson) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 11:44 am: Edit

Well that made it to the forum quick, haha. Is it bad I asked Will if there are any naked images of Hydrans while I was working on this?

This type of 3D sculpting is new to me..I have started working on body/uniform for Klinks and Roms, but will take some time for sure.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 11:48 am: Edit

It's only bad that you thought I might have such images.

I only have those of Slidarians. And Fralli.

Orion Slave Girls

OUCH

Groggily regains consciousness. Looks over and wonders "who left this nice stewpot?"

Slidarian Corporal;
Ahem, Will, may I see the Slidarians?

By Tony L. Thomas (Scoutdad) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 12:18 pm: Edit

Naked Fralli... Shocking!

By Matthew G Lawson (Mglawson) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 12:59 pm: Edit

Give me some time folks and I'll get some other images to SVC....I'm pretty much taking courses on how to do this while I'm doing it!

By Steve Zamboni (Szamboni) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 01:02 pm: Edit

Hydran fighter pilot mini needs mirrorshades.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 01:53 pm: Edit

Tony needs a bobble-head version of that Hydran to sit on the dashboard of his car!!!

It should be tert-butylthiol (the natural gas "stink") scented, as a car air "freshener".

Shawn Hantke,

The scales work out as, 10mm (1/161), 15mm (1/107), 20mm (1/80.5), 25mm (1/64), 28mm (1/58), and 30mm (1/54).
I think for good visual detail the 25mm to 30mm would look good, The 10mm to 20mm can work well with floor plans, deck plans, and should still have some detail.

By wayne douglas power (Wayne) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 05:08 pm: Edit

You could have a very large one of the Hydran RPG figures to put in your garden, to keep the vegetable patch safe.

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 05:53 pm: Edit

I would suggest 15mm as it matches Classic Traveller and FASA printed deckplans.

I would also suggest 28mm as it matches SJG Cardboard heros and their Traveller printed deckplans, plus the Deckplan set published by ADB for the Klingon G1 Gunboat. Battlestations also use 28mm I think there was a possible SFU version at one time.

I am not sure what size SVC wanted to use for minis with Tribbles and the other mystery deckplan game.

For true SFU weirdness, OGRE uses 6mm (1/385) as does Classic Car Wars and GHQ as well as most other Micro Armor Rulesets if you wanted to play Star Fleet Marines with minis and terrain on a tabletop.

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 06:00 pm: Edit

If you wanted to jump on the new Modiphus STRPG bandwagon, they are doing 32mm scale with 30mm bases to match their modular deckplan cards.

I want to see a Kzinti.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 10:03 pm: Edit

The Kzinti weightlifting thing could be an interesting set.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Friday, July 14, 2017 - 12:07 am: Edit

Surprised John Hacker hasn't asked for Gorns yet.

By Michael Grafton (Mike_Grafton) on Friday, July 14, 2017 - 02:14 am: Edit

Any Hydran fighter pilot mini must also have an enormous watch. To compensate for the tiny tentacles they have.

Actually, IIRC, SVC has very definite ideas on how the Kzinti & Lyrans appearance differ. I think he made some detailed corrections way back in the "Too close to the flame" cover art...

Gorns are easy, just go to any store and buy some dinosaur toys.

Cromarg? Just get the DandD mini of a dwarf.

A Vari marine would be a miniature I'd buy. Nasty spider people for the win.
