Wow, Steve, for simple line-art, that really does look a lot like the red-tailed hawk.

Well, I dont think belly birds need more detail than that. It is based on the photo you sent me to. I'm sure a real artist (I'm a draftsman) could do it in photoshop, but I did in Freehand. I imported the photo, which turns it into very grainy pixels that really just sort of leave an outline and an occasional clue where a major feature of color change is, so I just drew a birdish thing on top of it, more or less staying inside the outline (I could see the dark brown end and the blue sky begin). Like the other art, it's free to my customers to make decals or copy the paint job or have printed on their birthday cakes if they wish, just don't try to sell anything with it.
And thanks for the "wow" which really means more than you could know.

I have used these belly birds on my Shapeways Romulans to good effect. Any chance we can get some KR-type markings (the ones that go on the wings and the simplified bird symbols for the bottom of the Klingon-style ships)?

Send me (or remind me where to find) an example of that KR art and I'll do something. I think I would rather/also do a proper bird for KRs like the ones I posted.

SVC,
The simple bird I found a picture of in this link
http://www.starfleetgames.com/minis/Paint_guide_err.shtml
The wing markings I can only think of is your line art in the Romulan mastership book.

As an aside, for a prettier version of the "simple bird", just take a look at my avatar on the FC Forum. That is what it is based on, but made much prettier by one of your interns a few years back. (I forgot who.)

I can do something from that. Thanks.

Does this work?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, November 19, 2018 - 03:19 pm: Edit |
If that works I will send Simone the 300 dpi file with six color variations and she can put it in the download file Sometime.

Yes!

That looks cool, although the curved edge of the 'head' looks odd with all the rest of the lines being straight, unlike on the original one?
I know, it's a nitpick!

Note that Simone won't be in on Thursday as it is Thanksgiving.

Yeah, I meant to change the head.

Here ya go
Maybe sometime I will do a "real feather" version on the same footprint.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 - 06:10 pm: Edit |
That is the 72 dpi version. I will send the 300 dpi version to Simone. If anybody needs it sooner than she posts it, email me and I'll pop it to you.

Thanks! These will do well. Any chance of the wing feathers down the road? Availability of time depending of course. None of these requests are urgent.

Those are nice!

I am not sure what you mean by wing feathers.
By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 - 12:45 am: Edit |
On the top view of the ships, the eagle and kestrel ships have a feather trim on the rear edge of their wings.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 - 04:29 pm: Edit |
That is tricky as it has to match the angle of each ship class. I wonder if there is a way to do multiple sets? If somebody (other than Will who is busy) could tell me the planar angle (the angle of the wing trailing edge compared to the long-axis of the ship with the ship rotated to make the wing horizontal.
