Proposal by Will McC to provide a "tiny stand" for individual fighters and gunboats.

Needs a dice chair version...

One fighter mini and a D6 to indicate how many are actually there.

A bit of variation in the height of the posts could make things look a bit less two dimensional.

I'd like to have a stand that has slots in it so you can put "plaques" (for lack of a better term) showing:

Ship name
EW Status
Speed
Special condition (EM, in Stasis, tractored, etc.)

Kinda like a Crawford Box, but for minis.
Wouldn't require any artistic talent, really. Just etch some notches in the base, and the plaques just snap in.
You could make a whole "countersheet" of plaques.

Are the tiny stands 1/2 inch across? They would be great for future "Elite" scale minis! I would buy them. They are neat for displaying Fighters and PFs but I am not sure I would use them in a game with one inch hexes. I could see using them on the 1/2 inch hex map.

If memory serves, they were indeed half-inch bases.

Agreed, "tiny bases" of this sort would be handy as heck for gunboats. (In fact, the old Elite scale stands are what I currently use for my gunboats.)

Awesomesauce! So at risk of derailing the thread. I would buy and like to see 1/2" and 2" stands added to the already available 1" stands. I envision 1/2" stands for the "Elite" scale ships, 1" for the 3788s and 2" for the 3125s.

Upthread dice chair stands were mentioned, I would buy those in 1" and 2". I am not sure if they would work in 1/2". Maybe use 8mm, 12mm and 16mm dice for the sizes? Thoughts?

Upthread plaques were mentioned? I am not sure about a separate plaque piece and less sure about plaques with writing on them. How about a base with a triangle wedge as wide as the base and half way up the post? A sticker could be applied or it could be painted with the ship name or class on it. Available in 1/2", 1" and 2" sizes. Thoughts?

In crazy land, maybe bases with plaques, and dice chairs in three sizes or am I totally loony???

1" and 2" bases would be much more economical to order direct from ADB. Shapeways on-demand printing will never compare, cost-wise, to just bagging up 6 stands from a box of 1000 that popped out of an injection-mold tool.

By Shawn Hantke (Shantke) on Thursday, August 30, 2018 - 06:05 pm: Edit

There are 1" Hex stands in the Shapeways store. I agree the 1" injection moulded stands ADB sell in the Starfleet Store are cheaper. I was asking about 1/2" and 2" hex bases for Shapeways. I believe the Mongoose/ADB ACTASF bases are 2" but they are round.

Plaque bases, I don't thing anyone make these so they would be new.

Dice bases, a guy used to make these but I am guessing he stopped as I can find them anywhere. These where 1" hex so 1/2" hex and 2" hex so they would be new. Litko does make something similar a little cheaper than Shapeways for 1" hex dice bases, but that doesn't help ADB.

If Jean thinks they will sell then she can tell the sculptors to do them. It's not anything I would oppose.

On a stand related note...

I've posted this in the SL2400, SL2500 and Federation Commander forums. The company Corsec Engineering is closing down. :(

The main Omni-Stand line should be easy enough to reproduce if he shuts down; most of that is off-the-shelf hardware.

I've been needing an excuse to convince the wife to let me put a laser cutter in the garage anyway...
