I'm certainly in favor of this idea.

I think what you want is a 7000-scale stand with a three-prong (or six prong) topper BUILT IN, not a separate piece to be snapped / glued on.

Hi, Jean!
Just recieved word from shapeways. The problem with the Federation NCL sprue in PA12 material seems to be solved and it is back into action (printing).
There shipment is expected at December 15th.
Thanks for updating them so quickly.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Soeren Klein

The 3-prongs are huge compared to the 7000 stands. Given we're already paying for the bounding box, it might not cost much more to just print the prongs as part of the stands.
I'm curious if that takes us to the point where we just print 1/4" fighters on the prongs and call it a day.

I have no problems with sculptors doing whatever minis the customers want.

Soeren, I am so glad! Doing the happy dance for you!

The reason I suggested just the stands was to minimize the number of additional items to be added to the store.
Ultimately, my goal is to be able to use Fighters with 7000 Scale Fleets. If sculptors are willing to do them and Jean is willing to add them to the store, I'm happy to buy 7000 Scale stands with 3 Fighters per stand for each Empire.

Something like this?

Chris: Approved (if you think enough want it).

How about a sprue of six?
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, December 08, 2020 - 10:35 pm: Edit |
We must think beyond the six pack. Why not a nine pack? Why not twelve?

> We must think beyond the six pack. Why not a nine pack? Why not twelve?
... well, depends on how much Shapeways decides to charge for them. I'll play with it a bit.
We should probably also do a singleton stand for those who want lone fighters.

Will the regular 1/2" fighters fit on those? Can we do a squadron of stylized 1/4" fighters already mounted? (4x3?)
By Chris Nasipak (Ecs05norway) on Wednesday, December 09, 2020 - 08:19 pm: Edit |
The fighter stand holes are the same size as the ones for ships, right? If so then /those/ will fit... I haven't tried putting fighters on it. (Only models I have are Hydrans, so.)

Be good to see if that works with standard fighters, but I really like the idea of a small stand with fighters printed on it. They wouldn't be to scale of course, but a smaller size would look better with the 7000 series (which I love - thanks ADB and all the talented sculptors). If there was space for a very small d6, that could be used to show how many fighters were in the group (I think Corsec used to do something like that).

Very interesting idea. I would buy it.

Maybe you could have a set with two stands with three fighters each, plus two stands with two fighters, and two stands with a single fighter. That way, you can deploy six fighters and then remove one by one as they die. I don't know if you'd want to try to make a stand with six fighters.

We may have to adjust it with other fighter types. I'll send the sculpting group a file to test with -- I tried it with Borak fighters and they overlapped more than a bit. I think it might be best to set the three stalks to separate levels to avert that.

Could you put small pegs on the fighter ie wing tip....
Then mold a larger peg on a stand with holes, like an artificial Christmas Tree....
Then you could add or remove fighters from the stand...
I understand the size may make that difficult or impossible, but could be one solution...
By Chris Nasipak (Ecs05norway) on Thursday, December 10, 2020 - 09:54 pm: Edit |
@MarkSHoyle: The size would be a serious issue, I'm afraid. And we'd have to do a whole new set of entries for every fighter.
Multi-level stand with Borak HKs
Since this uses the same peg diameter as the usual stand it's easy to just put the existing fighter models loosely on it, without glue, and take them off as casualties happen if you want.

Just received my Shapeways order. Man, those 7000-scale ships are really tiny.
