Matthew is correct regarding the pricing. Buying them separately is less than $56. The sprue would be nearly $59. That is mostly due to how Smooth Fine Detail Plastic works their pricing box -- big things increase the price exponentially.

Would it be possible to have new Shapeways models done in parts so they can be printed more cheaply?

What cripples the multi-part ships - aside from the pain of reassembly - is Shapeways' minimum pricing. Each separate part gets nailed for another minimum price, and the final total is usually more than just printing it in one piece. It's a rare model that benefits enough from being cut up to be worth posting.

It's more likely the discount works the other direction, which is we may combine small ships into a single squadron sprue to fully fill that minimum price box. There's a lot of trial and error that goes into finding the optimum size.

Mind, that's not far from a decent solution.

Take a Q-tip. Dip it in some red paint, then dip it in a bit of a yellow wash. Nip it off with about a half-inch of stick, and use a pin to mount it to a base.

Voila: plasma torpedo.

The Klingon FX frigate was released, some months back.

I can only speak for myself, but X-ships take a lot of time to prepare (And that includes converted ships, where a bunch of decisions have to be made about how much change to make). For me, available time had been directed at other projects for the last 6 months or so. The Fed DDX and FFX, as well as the Klingon D5X are in the to-do list though.

The Tholian NCX would be a question to Steve Zamboni.

Andrew - I misunderstood your question. I don't show a Fed NCX in my copy of G3 master annexes or the Fed MSSB. Did you mean a different ship, like the SCX?
