Give SF Models some time.

I do believe that the plan is to get all the 7000s done this year. That is not a guarantee.

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 - 10:56 pm: Edit

Hi all, I'm David Jannke, responsible for Star Fleet Models. I'm concentrating on 1) shipping orders, 2) Getting the remaining 7000 series with ready files up for sale (including all the required test prints), 3) Improving the overall offering (website, photos, shipping including international, service, new offerings).

That is a lot but #1 comes first because orders are promises. #2 comes next because I also have responsibilities about availability - and want as many as possible available.

@Mike Erickson - I get the Paypal email address and agree. That will be changing as soon as I get hosting to cloudflare and a email provider set up that won't send all my emails to spam folders. The one advantage of the david@jannke.com address is that it has a very long history. Thanks for your order!

@Greg Ernest - 3 x D7 is on the list for this week. Should be up soon.

@Steve Stewart - Yeah, I know its a bummer. To get it right I need to not only have someone who can ship stuff there but also make sure I don't run into issues with customs, reporting laws, materials rules, etc. etc. You probably know but lots of American companies just start shipping and naively assume what is legal here is legal everywhere. I know enough to know that isn't necessarily true but don't yet know what has to be done. That is the time consuming bit. SVC already has this thing worked out but we are a different company, use different materials, and need to check them.

The temporary workaround is to ship to someone who consolidates and cross ships. I am happy to ship to those folks who are assuming the liabilities and know the rules.

David, good to see you here. You are most welcome.

By Steve Stewart (Stevestewart) on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 - 06:59 am: Edit

Thanks for the reply David - looking forward to being able to order directly at some point in the future!

We are doing a little organization now that I have Albert doing a lot of my admin work so I can spend my final years designing rather than worrying. I have asked David to get us a weekly update on what was done and what questions he has so that the staff meeting can address the issues. It's not a problem for me if David hasn't finished the list of things we gave him to do previously, but it's a big problem if he runs out of things to do and ADB never gave him another list.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 - 04:39 pm: Edit

Minor point of correction. SVC never worked out didly about how to ship products anywhere. That was all worked out by Leanna and Jean. It's not just that they deserve credit for their work, its to acknowledge things I was never smart enough to do myself.

So David might more accurately have said "Jean and Leanna already worked out how ADB was going to do foreign shipments."

No shade on David. Nobody told him how ADB really works.

Many thanks Steve. I've been jumping in wherever folks have questions, here and Facebook (which I don't usually use). I'm always glad to answer or explain and getting feedback is great.

I sent a report on how its going, let me know if the email doesn't make it there. Spam filters seem to eat a lot of my real emails.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, May 28, 2026 - 03:11 pm: Edit

David: no report received.

Jean doesn't let me use facebook. She calls me "anti-social media" and says that calling people out when they are caught lying or misquoting me is somehow uncool.

Back when I could post there, I posted something that more or less said "I know this cannot be done, but I would sure like it if it could be." and somebody replied "Steve Cole is so stupid he doesn't know that cannot be done."

Somehow that guy was "social media" and my pointing out that I SAID it couldn't be done was "anti-social" and "damaged the brand."

Kinda like when we had been married six week and Leanna took away my check book because I forgot to write down a $20 check. I did leave the receipt paper-clipped into the checkbook, but apparently, that didn't excuse failure to write down.

Women are just weird.

Owwww! What I meant to say is that women are just different from people.

THUNK!

When you return to consciousness it should be in your email. Changes also already made to the logo.

Kzinti Core is up. 3 x D7s is up.

If the website loads weird use Control-F5 to get the latest one. The logo update might make you draw from an old copy

By Nick Samaras (Koogie) on Friday, May 29, 2026 - 12:52 pm: Edit

Should probably remove the old Shapeways link at the top and replace it with a link to the new store.

My kids brother (age 58) is making me some things on his 3D printer. One of them is a dice cup with the Star Fleet logo on it.

That got me thinking -- Perhaps ADB might consider putting such things up on the new store for sale??

I asked Mike to email SVC some photos.

Something that would be helpful used by multiple races that I would buy:

- Drones (lots of them, some in groups of 2,3 or even 6?) to be painted and numbered for easy ID

- Admin shuttles, also to be painted and numbered for easy ID

- Plasma torpedoes (maybe different sizes to represent warhead strength?)

- Webs (blobs and strands)

I know they would be too small if done to scale, but even off scale they would still be useful and could also be used with the larger scales as they come out.

So my package from Starfleet Models arrived. Photo:

https://ibb.co/TxsWsYfT

1. Well packed, and simply

2. Nice letter from David

3. 2x free F5 escorts for my B10!

4. An interesting base/stand/shipping separator. Took me a little bit to figure out how to actually get the ships out of the base without damaging them. Not very difficult really, but worth taking the time to be careful.

5. The attached photo shows the box, base, the white ships which were part of this order as well as my old Shapeways 7000 series PA12 for comparison. The F5 are basically identical in size.

6. I popped those spacers in the lower left hand corner of the photo out so I could use all the slots in the base. Not sure if they serve some other purpose?

7. I prefer PA12 myself as a material as I'm not into painting these days. Back in the day I had a nice group of WH40k terminator space marines that I had done a pretty good job of painting. But alas, 40 years have come and gone and they have been lost in the sands of time. So I'll probably look to primer or wash these new Klingon models just to get to a baseline grey.

8. Overall pleased with the service and quality. The biggest barrier for me is that I don't use much 7000 series and PA12 is really my jam. Hopefully some 3125 become available, but things are just getting rolling with this new venue so its prudent to be patient.

Questions welcome.

Mike: those spacers are in fact just retention clips for the shipping separator; David designed them so that you can reuse the thing to cart around minis to games and such without damage. :)

By Mike Erickson (Mike_Erickson) on Thursday, June 04, 2026 - 12:38 pm: Edit

OK, so I'm dumb. So you:

1. remove clip from the base

2. put the 7000 model into the base

3. put the clip back in to reduce chance of the model breaking free during movement

Now that makes sense! Good thing I didn't trash them...

That's it in a nutshell. :)

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Friday, June 05, 2026 - 01:17 pm: Edit

That's right - clips are just for locking the model in there should you want to reuse the base.

If you need some clips just let me know - send a self addressed envelope and the first set is free. They are also available at printables if you have a printer. I will add them and the trays at the store but I need to figure out how to exempt them from shipping and set some small price so no one uses a million of them to build their house or something.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Saturday, June 06, 2026 - 12:55 pm: Edit

Can you post a photo of how to use the clips like that? I'm looking at the one Mike posted and don't see how they should work.

Garth: on the "loop" side of it, there's a gap between the two prongs of the "loop". You squeeze it together, and then just pop it out of (or into) the hole on the card.

David reports that he has sent 600 orders with only one report of a defective part. Unclear if the part was a bad print that evaded quality control or damaged in shipment. Any business would be proud of an error rate less than 1%.

GOOD WORK DAVID! KEEP IT GOING!

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 - 04:38 pm: Edit

Thanks! We're not happy with even one defect so I work to prevent defects by examining each model under magnification before it goes out. If there is a dent, a twist, or a deformed nacelle it goes off to the scrapyard instead of being shipped.

We have indeed shipped over 600 ships, (not quite that many orders as people are buying multiple fleets at a time and each fleet can have as many as six ships). The volume is still amazing and I'm happy to have it!
