Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: 3D Printed Ships Project: The New Store: Archive through September 03, 2026

This was in my report from David for the week. I usually let him decide what to post but since you guys are asking:

Adding this week (at least):
Hydran Convoy
Romulan Hawk Builder

Not yet started
Other Hydran fleets x 4
Lyran Fleets x 6
Borak Fleets x 2

SVC does not see Gorns or Tholians on the list and would think they would both be before Borak and arguably before Hydran/Lyran.

I would also think same! Orions, Gorn, and Tholians were all 'seen on TV' races. Tholians with the ship we got in SFB, even!

I have no idea what effect that status does/does not have on sales, though. I'd imagine SOME positive effect?

(Although that could be intentional, too - holding off on something that is expected to sell well makes sense if you are already maxing out your production capacity)

I’d suggest the 7000 General Fleet Convoy Collection as a “sooner rather than later” consideration - everyone loves to shoot up freighters, uh, I mean they feature in a lot of scenarios. Maybe with a tweak to being 2x F-S, 2x F-L, 1x F-H, and 1x F-J?

By Steve Stewart (Stevestewart) on Thursday, August 06, 2026 - 07:21 am: Edit

How about a specialist convoy group; 3xFT, 2xAPT, 1xFX?

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Thursday, August 13, 2026 - 11:49 am: Edit

I guess my last post was a little bit too much like spam to get past the filters - I deliberately wrote like someone trying to sell used freighters

7000 Hyran Fleet Convoy Collection
7000 Romulan Hawk Fleet Builder

Now up

I hear everyone on the configurator. It is going to take a little time because it is adding programming to the website but it has not been lost as a priority!

There are no filters other than me and Jean and we didn’t delete anything.

Are you Mad Jack? Cause I’d buy a used freighter from you! Like a dozen or so easy.

I got my second order last night, of the Pre-War Feds, both Klingon collections, the B10, and the Fed BB - and thank you very much, David, for those extra escorts for the battleships. They help fill out the fleets nicely.

As for the configurator, I understand that it is a project that will take sometime, and I don’t want to see it come at the expense of major empires we haven’t seen yet (Gorn, Tholians, Orions, general freighters being the top of the list IMHO) and appreciate that ships ordered that way may end up a bit more expensive per price then there are in the collections - but being able to fill out stuff like a third D5 without ending up with yet more F5s and F5Ws will be awesome.

Thank you again for all your time and effort in making these available again - I look forward to getting some Romulans next.

FREIGHTERS FREIGHTERS FREIGHTERS get them here. Big freighters, small freighters, convoy freighters, and freighters with just enough previous-owner character to keep things interesting. Mad Jack has the hulls you need to keep commerce moving, supply lines running, and enemy raiders gainfully employed. Would you buy a used freighter from this man? Sure, maybe even the same one more than once

7000 Hydran Fleet Convoy Collection now available at Star Fleet Models

We're working on other civvy fleets too! Also Gorn and Tholians fleets to come.

- Thanks Steve - I didn't know how that works. I must have not properly hit submit or something.

NICE DAVID!

Hi all. Some unfortunate news about international sales to the EU for Star Fleet Models. August 12th the EU began requiring all businesses to have a personal representative and submitted certification regarding packaging and recycling in each country no matter the size of the company. This was probably just poor wording of a new law but it is the law and shipping companies will probably integrate enforcement soon.

This plus tariffs plus VAT creates a high cost barrier for selling into the EU. We may find a distributor willing to do all that work for us but they need to be paid too and our margins are not built around supporting indirect sales. Could just anyone buy from us, mark models up, and turn around and sell into the EU? Maybe - but they would have the manufacturer compliance and tax burdens because we don't sell there.

We are officially unable to offer models for sale inside the EU thanks to these issues. This policy doesn't apply to the UK or Canada where we are getting closer to offering models but the EU looks out for now.

As a note, the EU also eliminated the de minimis customs duty exemption, which doesn't help.

Fingers crossed for the UK!

Thanks for all the fine quality work on the new model line. I am enjoying painting mine.

By David Jannke (Bigslowtarget) on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 - 11:56 pm: Edit

Thanks Greg, it is a team effort - in ADB, with the independent modelers, in Star Fleet Models, and with the people who buy them and paint.

Each modeler invested a lot of time going to very fine detail and in many cases intricate design. The models reflect the SSDs at deep levels. I've studied the models a lot in trying to make sure that all that work makes it through the printing process and isn't lost but sometimes there are tiny details that get blurred and depend on skilled painting to bring out. Of course innovation and artistry pays off there too.

Seems like Core and Fleet builder sets come in 6's and the Heavy Cruisers come in 3's with the big boys being a one off.

Is it possible yet to do a custom set of any (published) 6 empires worth of a class of ship?

For instance if we wanted a War Cruisers collection (Fed NCL, Klingon D5, Rom SP, Lyran CW, Kzinti CM, Hydran HR)

By Jean Sexton Beddow (Jsexton) on Thursday, August 20, 2026 - 04:22 pm: Edit

Mixing empire is not easy. Different sculptors did different empires.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Thursday, August 20, 2026 - 05:18 pm: Edit

Given the difficulties, I'd say reserve the mixed empires collection to just the Heavy Cruisers to make a tournament set.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Thursday, August 20, 2026 - 05:33 pm: Edit

Jean: Roger that on the mixing is difficult.

Garth that was what I was thinking it would be for the group up in Sacramento but the cruisers seem to come in threes...Tim/Jimi have been introducing folks to the SFB game again. Everyone plays something different so buying entire fleets at a time is limiting.

Trying to fast track some folks into the game I suppose it would be fine to get 3 mixed CAs if the difficulties could be figured out rather than the smaller (war cruiser / war destroyers / FFs)

If I recall correctly, there were a number of 7000 scale sprues for various "tournament" cruiser sets back in the days of Shapeways 1.0. However, these were sub-divided based on the sculptor involved.

For example: my recollection is that there was a sprue which offered the Federation, Klingon, and Kestrel Series Romulan TCs at once, since all three were created by the same sculptor. But the Eagle and Hawk Series Romulan TCs were by a different sculptor, so were offered (with a few other Alpha empires' TCs) as part of a separate sprue instead.

Indeed, much as the Hawk-Series Romulan ships were, for the most part, offered both in "classic" and "Mongoose" iterations (to match the designs seen in Starline 2400 and Starline 2500 respectively) on Shapeways 1.0, I want to say that the "tournament" sprue which featured the FireHawk was itself offered with both design options.

If so, perhaps these "tournament" sprues can be reconsidered here, should there be enough of a demand for them?

By Matthew Lawson (Mglawson) on Friday, August 21, 2026 - 10:29 am: Edit

There was a sprue with the WE, FH, Seltorian, Frax, Vudar and Flivver TCs; and another the same but with the FH "refit" Mongoose version.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Friday, August 21, 2026 - 10:49 am: Edit

Thank you for the reminder!

-----

Beyond the two (plus one) sprues noted above, there might also have been at least two other 7000 scale "tournament" sprues, again based on the sculptor in question.

One of these, I think, had the Kzinti and Gorn TCs, and other ships I can't quite recall, on it. (Maybe the ISC and/or Andromedan tournament ships were part of this mix?)

Another possibly had the Hydran, Lyran, and LDR TCs, along with... certain others?

Do either of those sound familiar to anyone here?

By Justin Spaeth (Spants) on Friday, August 21, 2026 - 02:34 pm: Edit

Yeah there were 5 different sets. As Matt said, two were essentially the same.

One had the Fed, Klingon and Romulan KR.

The next had the Lyran, LDR, Orion, WYN fish ship, and the Hydran.

The third had the Gorn, Kzinti, ISC, WYN Aux, Tholian, Neo-Tholian, and Andromedan ships.

The last being the Romulan KE, Romulan FH/FH+ (depending on what version you bought), Seltorian, Frax, Flivver and Vudar.

These sets were actually the first minis I bought for the SFU.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Saturday, August 22, 2026 - 12:36 pm: Edit

Thanks for the clarification!

-----

By the way, since the Borak were mentioned above: there is a playtest Borak TC in the Module E3 SSD book.

So, in theory at least, one could add the relevant Borak hull from the Shapeways 1.0 days to - ironically enough - the sprue with the Hydran TC on it.

Or even add the Hydran and Borak fighters used by their respective TCs? (There were definitely sprues of Hydran fighters on Shapeways 1.0, though I don't recall of the Borak had theirs posted at the time also.)

"I knew they'd respond. The Monarch was a step too far. Sensors report SIX esgs. That thing will make our minefields useless. Our allies will find drones pointless, even stacks of fighters need to take care. It might even come right for us - those are some big escorts."
