This is in response to a couple of other threads on this topic. What I'm putting together here is a list entry into service dates for various advances as well as a listing of scenarios for the middle years period. I'm starting in Y135 because prior to that date you can almost consider general war ships as X-ships. Ideally I would like to update a couple of the scenarios and maybe add the Second Romulan-Federation War

Important Middle Year Considerations
1. Y to National Guard Transition, as you can see this takes between 10 and 29 years once it has began and some powers didn't begin this transition until well after the Y-Era ended. Even the Federation shouldn't have completed this until Y140 or so.
2. What is commanding early fleets prior to Y142 for Command Cruisers or Y148 for DN's?? Not as big of deal as some have made it out to be, if you want the two additional hexes then you have to sacrifice the 2 ships. The lack of Starbase's prior too Y140 might solve this problem anyways.
3. Prior to Y140 YDK's in Starbase hexes
4. There should be at least a few border wars between Y135 and Y157 that involve races other then Federation vs. XXX. Now a lot of the time the Lyran's and Kzinti are occupied with Civil Wars but there should be room for at least some conflict.
5. Fleet sizes smaller then General War.

Additional Notes:
Y Ships can only be upgraded to NG ships, until NG rules are published should probably just be removed from play at given rate.
6th fleet small until Y154 and grew again in Y159
Only R-Series/Fed CL's ships were upgraded across tech. Neither should be a major factor.
Number of ships destroyed is pretty limited because we know that a lot of Y ships made it to serve in future National Guard.

Thats what I thought, I knew I was missing some. I believe that a Gorn-Fed War scenerio exists but I think its mostly a fictional take because historically the conflict was quickly resolved.

Refitted YDN's.
Example, C4B, in CL# I-forget.
Replaced by C6.
Fed would be a refitted YDN (using the C4B as a guideline, use 15-box engines, convert all phaser-2 to p-1, done. Does NOT use EY rules.)
Same as for other races YDN's (with the obvious exceptions of the Hydrans/Rom/Gorn...)

With the ongoing discussion of the proposed Federation Corvette design in mind, I thought it worth noting here that this ship class, if/when it appears in Star Fleet Battles and/or in Federation Commander, might be worth introducing alongside other, more recently-introduced Middle Years hulls, such as the Federation Old Heavy Cruiser (OR2.A30) from Captain's Log #38 and the Old Survey Cruiser (OR2.A44) from Captain's Log #53, plus the Kzinti Middle Years Cruiser (OR5.A19) from Captain's Log #50, in any potential future revision to the (682.0) Second Federation-Kzinti War scenario.
Also, there is a pair of Cygnan hulls in Captain's Log #24, the YCA (Y2.CA1) and YDD (Y2.CA2). While Early Years and/or National Guard ships presently lie beyond the scope of Federation and Empire, I mention them here due to their historically playing a key role in the defence of Cygnus during that conflict, according to the R-section data in the SFB Federation Master Starship Book.
So far as the "upgrade path" (or lack thereof in some cases) goes between the YCAs of one era and the CAs and GCAs of another, John Sickels' The Hidden History of the Federation's Heavy Cruisers article in Captain's Log #52 may be a valuable point of reference in this regard.
And lest I forget, the playtest Middle Years setting rules (657.0) in Captain's Log #52 might be worth leveraging here also.

You should save that post Gary. Based on previous times for expansions to come out, there's a good chance this post will get lost by then, as it seems likely that there's at least one expansion as well as several updates to existing expansions that would need to be done before a middle years project (at least I hope they are done first).
Some of those things you list are probably in the realm of national guard units which generally don't get seen in F&R, at least at this time. I could see such things being part of a middle years module if the powers that be find room for them there.

For what it's worth, I had previously asked if certain scenarios like that for the Second Federation-Kzinti War might might be worth considering for use in Tactical Operations, - which I suppose would depend on whether or not there might be room for the VT, OCA, OSR, and/or CAM on that product's countersheet.
If there were some viable stand-ins for the Cygnan ships which fought to defend their home world during that war, well and good. Perhaps there might be some auxiliary hulls which could be "close enough" to the YCA and YDD to make do for the time being?

Would be nice to have some units of that type for that scenario, but I don't know how they would deal with national guard ships. I don't think they intend to add new rules to that product of that nature (though I could be wrong). If such was the case, then I don't see that scenario being selected, similarly to the Hydran scenario where they restore their kingdom - it would require rules to be made that (I presume) do not exist yet, or at least get reworked.
Perhaps such scenarios belong in middle year or early year modules.
