As an alternative: OPENING the Scenario

Now double-click "CB Play.exe" file. When it opens take you cursor to the upper left and click file. Roll your mouse down to select "Open". Use the scrolls and tabs to find the file you placed the other CB files and "The Wind.gam" file. Select "The Wind.gam" file and it should open.

When you've done that much and gotten "The Wind" scenario file to open, play around for a bit (you're actually editing the scenario when you do, so don't save) and then post back with any questions.

I can't seem to put FRD counters into the Fleet trays in v5.3.

I click on the counter and then try and drag and drop into the tray. I can drag the unit but when I move the cursor into the tray I get the "circle with a line" icon saying I can't dray the selected unit into the tray.

Am I doing something wrong?

By Matthew G. Smith (Mattsmith) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 11:39 am: Edit

Yeah. FRDs are "markers" not "pieces." (Many single-sided counters are.)

I don't know all the ins and outs of CB, but I bet that having them as "markers" saves space. The downside being that you can't put them in trays.

By Mike Curtis (Nashvillen) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 11:51 am: Edit

Matthew is correct. Just leave them on the map and if you need them on a battle board drag them from the map to the battle board.

It is a huge savings of space to make all the one sided counters markers and CB only has a limited size it can be. Lar can give you more details if you need it. I do know our gamebox is approaching the limits of what CB can do, so we have to be careful.

By Michael H.Oliver (Mholiver) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 01:27 pm: Edit

Ok you do have a limit on what you can do with CB

By Russell J. Manning (Rjmanning) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 01:46 pm: Edit

Ok, then, how do you make your FRD park? Do you have to leave all the FRD's and Tugs pulling them as individual units on the map or is there a TG+FRD counter? (I'm at work so I can't check.)

By Matthew G. Smith (Mattsmith) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 02:24 pm: Edit

There are some "blank" counters in the F&E gamebox for each race.

You could get creative and edit the .gbx file to make those a "FRD" tile on the front side and blanking out the back side. (I'm pretty sure that if you edit the .gbx file that you can still keep playing the same game. Of course, if those "extra" ships aren't in your scenario, you'd have to save your game and then edit the scenario too. A lot of work, I know, but it's an actual answer as opposed to a "well, them's the breaks.")

By Mike Curtis (Nashvillen) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 03:24 pm: Edit

Just leave the FRD's on the map in a stack and a fleet with the tugs and cripples under them.

By Michael Parker (Protagoras) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 04:14 pm: Edit

That is what I do. Things like FRD's APT's get left on the map. Convoys too. Depending on my mood I leave the tugs out on the map or in a fleet.

By Mike Curtis (Nashvillen) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 04:53 pm: Edit

If a Tug has a mission such as Battle, CV, or G pod then it goes in a fleet. If it is doing a strategic function, such as moving Eps, FRDs, MBs, etc. then it stays on the map.

Here is a useful Tutorial for another CB game that you might like to look at to gleen info about how to use it for F&E.

A couple of items for the Gamebox and "The Wind."

Gamebox:
•There is no Tholian colored packed MB marker. I checked the gamebox, and there's a tile for one, but the marker was never made.

"The Wind":
•The Kzinti Marquis Fleet is missing a FF.
•The Kzinti Marquis fleet also should have CLs in the two medium carrier groups, not CLEs.
•The Romulans are missing their reserve markers.

I'm making an F&E2K "The Wind" scenario. Do you guys want that posted here when I'm done?

By Mike Curtis (Nashvillen) on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 10:00 pm: Edit

Matthew, send the file to me and I will get it to Matt, the web guy at ADB.

I am looking for Peladine SIT info that was posted by Rob Cole in 2003. If anyone has that or newer info I'd be interested in seeing it. The URL is down from that post.

I am considering the Peladine and Seltorians for the (2008) GBX mods.

Happy New Year.

My first post in years.

I downloaded the master file and GW file...

Can't use them until I find Cyberboard.
I mean the two files I downloaded and unzipped were *.gbx and *.gsn files.

Where do I go from here?
