Well, I am still hoping for my luck to change....
....At the First battle in the Romulan home worlds....., Alliance rolled a 5 to my 1!
One KE dead for a couple of cripples
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Sunday, November 21, 2010 - 10:51 am: Edit |
I really really don't want to say this game is over - but my horrendous luck continues.
The two most important battles of the turn so far, I have rolled double 1 and William has rolled 5 and 4.
(net result is he has done +10% in both battles).
I really am losing faith in the dice roller....again.
Alas, I think both William and myself have played well - but with the dice as they are, it's destroying the game - again.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Sunday, November 21, 2010 - 01:48 pm: Edit |
Well, I have analysed all the dice so far Alliance turn 18....
Type | VBIR | Alliance | Coalition | Number of Rolls | Percentage Difference |
Average | 3.29 | 3.5 | 3.34 | 2 | 20% |
Key Battles | 3.0 | 4.5 | 1 | 2 | 20% |
Important battles | 3.67 | 3.83 | 3.0 | 6 | 15% |
Moderate battles | 1.5 | 2.5 | 4.0 | 2 | -15% |
Minor battles | 3.43 | 3.36 | 3.79 | 14 | 0% |

In a very very very old nexus there is a set of tables of random dice rolls for use in PBM games.
It may be in the captains-edition rule book buried in your games room
Each play session one players picks the X-axis starting the other the Y-axis. If some one picks a Z-axis then the whole map is sucked into the 10 or 12 [missing] rolled up dimensions and you both loose.
You may want to use this rather than a dice roller.
Are you padding your SBs with extra fighter modules?
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Sunday, November 21, 2010 - 04:35 pm: Edit |
Jason
The Z-axis looks like a fair idea for this game!!!
We are only playing with F&E2K - so no extras on the SB.
If I get the luck I am due, the SB should survive - and even with average dice for both sides, there is a chance.
Having lost 1 Romulan SB to poor dice already - I really don't want to lose another SB that way!

All of Pauls luck has gone to my game with him. I've had horrendous luck there and he's had good.

Do you think it time to offer a sacrifice to the Great Dice God Roller

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 - 12:10 pm: Edit |
No, I shall offer no such sacrifice. That game is totally lost - and no amount of luck will save me there.

LOL what about the next game....Roller the Great Dice God would be happy

Well, William is generally still getting the better of the dice!
2 Minor planets in the Romulus system burn....and very little damage has been done in Exchange.
I made a tactical mistake in reacting all the good stuff out I think! Should have kept the 4CNV here!
1509 looks like it will die...unless the dice gods decide to return some of the favours they owe me!
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Friday, November 26, 2010 - 12:49 pm: Edit |
Well 1509 lived - dice improved, although the fact I was willing to self kill and William wasn't I think was the decider.
2 D5's and 3 (already crippled and not repaired) D6's died.
The SB lives with 6 SIDS on it.
Over 4613 the dice though pretty much was one sided (against me) and William was able to devastate 3 minor planets and kills several Romulan ships too boot.
When the Gorns retreated, I was able to destroy a crippled Gorn BT - so the Romulan pain wasn't total (just very close).
The remaining battles are being done - and it would be nice to get some good rolls in the battles which are not minor!
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Friday, November 26, 2010 - 05:35 pm: Edit |
Yes, I erred by not sending more to the NR SB assault. But the actual outcome is not horrible, as he only had a slight compot advantage for most of the battle and had to self kill 5 ships to save the SB.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 05:13 pm: Edit |
A18 combat is over. It was a bloody turn, with lengthy combats at Romulus, the NR SB, and Fed planet 2715. The tally of dead ships is:
Klingons 17 ships [they self killed a total of 7 at the NR SB and planet 2715]
Lyrans 11 ships
Romulans 9 ships
Feds 8 ships
Kzinti 2 ships [including a carrier tug]
Hydrans 2 ships
Gorns 2 ships [including a battle tug]
I counted 57 Fed crips at the end of combat -- and probably missed a couple. This is likely to enable the Coalition to recover some ground in Fed space on their turn. Probably just over half were crippled this turn. Most are able to reach repair points, which will take a significant bite out of next turn's build.
The Gorns also crippled a strong 12-ship fleet at Romulus. Coalition crips were much less than what the Alliance suffered -- maybe 30-40 ships total.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Monday, November 29, 2010 - 08:47 am: Edit |
Indeed - a very blood turn.
If the NR SB had gone down, it would have opened a wide gap in the Klingon NE area (most Border BATS are already dead there) - so by it surviving is worth 7 dead hulls. Surviving uncrippled (has 6 SIDS) is a bonus.
Atleast my error in leaving it weakly defended didn't cost me too much*
2715 is the link between the Klingons and Romulans - without it, I felt the Romulans would be under even more pressure. Mind you - don't know why William didn't direct cripple and then direct kill the MB (I always had several owed points, so a direct kill wasn't possible). Best guess is William thought he could take the planet?
Romulans took a pounding though - with 3 minor capital hex planets devastated.
Turn 18 was also probably the first time Coalition forces got smaller - Alliance probably shrank too - but only by a couple of hulls.
What will turn 19 bring?
* - I played Axis and Allies at the weekend...and left the UK weekly defended - German took the UK on turn 2! I re-captured the UK and fortunately, the Germans blew the bulk of the gained cash on a Navy! I won the game in the end - but can't remember when the dice rolls were so uneven and against me. Matt had 1 Japanesse Infanty man which killed 7 units in 3 attacks...before it finally died - got 4 kills out of 4 (with units defending on a 1, 2, 3 & 4) plus the Russian AA gun he captured shot down I think 6 Allied planes (I shot 2 planes down in total!) - we kept trading the Causacus! God knows how I won (well, Matt failed to build a Japanesse Industrial complex on the mainland.... that cost him the game I think!)
So I am due some dice luck!
By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Monday, November 29, 2010 - 10:22 am: Edit |
You keep complaining about luck, Paul. Your good luck is in MY game with you - precisely where you don't need it.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Monday, November 29, 2010 - 01:56 pm: Edit |
At 2715, killing the MB does not help, as the Romulans would have just transferred the planet to the Klingons.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Monday, November 29, 2010 - 02:29 pm: Edit |
Ted
You tell THAT to the dice roller
William
Well, that was the reserve plan if the MB was killed (and I held the planet) - and the reason why there was both a Romulan and Klingon Tug there.... if it was likely the planet would fall...
But, those brave defenders repelled the evil Federation Aggressors!

C19 movement is underway. There are some uninvited visitors at Hydrax. Also, Coalition forces appear to be setting up for an attack on a central location in the Federation -- possibly Earth.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Sunday, December 05, 2010 - 10:38 am: Edit |
Coalition Economies
Other than downgrading the CON to a FH - the Coalition once more built their full production.
A large number of cripples has been repaired and plans made to detroy the evil Alliance, once and for all!

C19 movement continues. I have the distinct impression that the Romulans are less than thrilled about the continued existence of the 6th Fleet SB. That battle is currently a pin at 51 SE vs. 51 SE, and the SB currently has 4 SIDS.
There are still enough unmoved Coalition forces to strike into the central Federation. This could take the form of either a strike at several weakly-defended planets (some of which would be saved by reserves) or an attempt to redevastate planets in the Capital.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Wednesday, December 08, 2010 - 07:38 am: Edit |
Well, the Romulans certainly took a pounding...and so they would like some revenge!
The 6th SB has been such a pain - I wish I paid my pound of flesh on turn 10 to 12 to destroy it - but, you live and learn!
Atleast with so many Coalition forces forward deployed....I do have some options!
