I'll volunteer to convert it into an HTML web form.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Thursday, September 03, 2015 - 06:12 pm: Edit

Do the "pre-final" Seltorian rules being primed for publication in the Minor Empires rulebook include revised numbers for playtest rules (5ST.121) and (5ST.44) from Captain's Log #45? If so, please consider adding Seltorian Base Planet Income and Seltorian Hive Ship EP Storage entries (with references to their "correct" respective rule numbers), for use by the Torch expedition in the soon-to-be-published Vortex of Vengeance (627.0) scenario. - Gary Carney 03 September 2015

(I just noticed that I accidentally dated my ISC note above to tomorrow. Ahem...)

Okay -- Here is the notional revenue side of things. I've included ***BLANK*** or ***DropDown*** lines for those oddball items that show up for just one empire (like the Hydran Bonus Treasury, Tholian Home World income, etc.)

Comments/corrections/suggestions are welcome. Report an item using the grid.

Please excuse the test data on the form as it is there to make sure maximum data rows & column widths are accounted for so as to fit on one sheet.

I need a list of running totals needed to be tracked during a game on the newest iteration of the F&E Economics & Production Form. So far I have the following:

Free FTRs
WYN Trade Rights
B10 Build Points
SWARMS
WYNCOVIA Accounts
Kzinti Drone Stockpile
ISC PPDs
Selt Booms
Treasury
Initial PF Pool remaining

What else???

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 - 08:48 am: Edit

Command points.
National debt.
Main Grid Treasuries (capital and offmap).
Partial Grid Treasuries.
SFG kits.
Homeless ships paid for.

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 - 12:45 pm: Edit

-Romulan modules
-Mothballs (but if you're starting with Mike Parker's econ form that's already accounted for).
-Survey Points and provinces found (same).
-Number of HRS colonies found.
-Police units activated (same - MP's form does that).
-Free PF factors (same).
-Ships sold to the WYN (specifically, the number of ships sold and when to observe those limits).

Not necessary, but would be useful to have a separate tab on the spreadsheet for tracking ship type limits. For example, every empire is limited as to how many AUXes they are allowed to have of various different types. The Lyrans are only allowed so many DNDs, etc. The Feds can only have one DLV, etc.

Ideally a drop down menu on sheet 1 would select the empire (per MP's spreadsheet). Then another tab on the spreadsheet would display the ship type limits that apply to that empire. Then the player could manually enter how many of each ship type is currently in service.

I might be able to work on this, but I'd have to teach myself the Excel skills. If this new spreadsheet is on Excel, then I would have to have access to the final version to program it.

Or Chuck can do it. :)

Repair/spare parts for Kestral ships?

By Chuck Strong (Raider) on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 - 04:17 pm: Edit

Ted:

Just FYI -- Some of the things you listed (like mothballs, survey, police, etc.) were already on the econ sheets I sent to Mike Parker years ago. He cleaned up my novice Excel coding and then he added some nice features of his own. Some of my sheets included very limited rule enforcements so that one could only roll counting numbers of dice instead of '-3.567' dice during survey. Some cells would also have a drop-down error explanations as to why an entry was wrong and would give a rule reference. I just didn't want to point out errors but wanted it to also be a teaching tool to beginners or as a refresher to the older players.

:)

Chuck,

Recommend a line for B10#2. I don't know about others, but I often build 2 B10s in a full F&E game.

Recommend line for Kestrel parts per Nick's suggestion.

Recommend line for homeless ship lines available per Richard's suggestion. Note this is different than the EPs paid for homeless ship support. Once a slot is paid for it is available for a different ship later, so the number of slots should be tracked separately.

Recommend line for recording ship sales and turn number for WYN ship sales.

Recommend line for Rom modules.

Finally, I did not see a response to my suggestion for a new tab on the spreadsheet that tracks navy-wide hull limits on a per-empire basis. Did you want me to take a crack when you're done with the main econ forms? You want to try it?

By Chuck Strong (Raider) on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 - 05:52 pm: Edit

Ted:

There will be 10 lines:

Line 1 will be a fixed line for free fighter factors (everyone uses these and they are linked to totals used elsewhere on the new form);

Lines 2-8 will have drop-down titles since the Gorns don't need Kestrel Part tracking but will need a line for their three free PFs per turn;

Lines 9-10 will be customizable for things like scenario specific counts, B10-7, etc.

==========

Tracks for navy-wide hull limits:
Can you guys compile a list by empire of the units, numbers, and post them here?

Override Production: "Ship Type", When

HDW-x Modules? These units are used by everyone. While not everyone will use all of the modules available, i.e. Drone (Kzinti only), or PF (all except Federation), they can be changed out during the course of the game.

Add to your SP Module list: SP-R (Repair, Future product?)

Chuck, seems like an excellent way to proceed. Drop downs and customization will help prevent bloat on the spreadsheet.

Comments on tally posted by Chuck:
-I don't think you will need 3 homeless ship and carrier lines. You really only need 1 of each, as once you've paid for a line it's permanent (and you can only have something like 10).

-Victory conditions are complicated. Suggest you have a whole different tab for tracking that. Maybe (maybe) a line on the tally is good for reporting the results of the calculations done on the second tab. Would you like me to work on such a calculator?

-Suggest 3 lines for offmap colonies. Line 1 is total colonies (for calculating income generated by them). 2nd line reports how many colonies found by survey (as opposed to HRS). Third line is how many developed by tugs/convoys. This is important because the total number of colonies you can develop by tug/convoy/COE is limited by how many colonies you've found by survey (1 per 5).

-Your request for navy wide hull units on a per empire basis will take some time to compile on spreadsheets. I'm willing to undertake this project, but it will take me some time (week maybe). Unless someone else wants to take it on? If no one volunteers I'll do it in time.

-Thank you for working on the updated form!!!!

- The problem I see with tracking limited hull units is then you have to go back to the econ sheet when one is destroyed.

- I can see doing this with Tug Pods since they don't get lost nearly as often as a ship.

You need multiple homeless ship lines for adopting more than one empire's ships.

In theory, the maximum is three during the GW where one alliance player could adopt homeless ships from three other empires, thus empires A/B/C.

Excel Spreadsheet Users:

I need assistance in formatting validations drop down cells. I plan on having the build schedule in one column of the new F&E Econ form and the adjacent cell have a drop down valid selections for what can be built from that scheduled unit. Here is an extract:

SCHEDULED PRODUCTIONSHIP COSTSFIGHTER COSTS
SITESHIPBUILTEPXTPEPXTPFFF
SY-2903CATG6.000
SY-2903NCLNVS7.00012.000
SY-2903DWDWG4.000
SY-2903FFFFS4.000

My ship selection data table would look something like this:

Schedule ShipSelection Ships
CACACCTGCVSDD*;FF*
NCLNCLNVSNACLTTNSCFF*
DWDWEDWGDWVDWSDWTFF*
FFFFECFFFCRFFSFFTFFV

I DO NOT want a series of *IF** statements (I think I need to use the "INDIRECT" function but I don't quite understand how to us it in the validation criteria. I want to use the already populated scheduled ships to drive a drop down validated list.

Example:
The schedule says I have an NCL slot available which means (based on the available selections I could build a (standard) NCL, NVS, NAC, LTT, NSC, or downgraded to an FF. I want the validation list to show NCL, NVS, NAC, LTT, NSC, or FF*.

Please post the coding mythology here that need to to be placed into the validation formula bar and any steps to make this possible.

Thanks.

Sorry, that is beyond my Excel skills.

Since no one has volunteered so far, sometime in the next couple of weeks I will get you that empire-wide limits information.

Ted, and Chuck,
I'm going to look into the "INDIRECT" function as well (I've never used it). I consider myself well adapt in Excel but I only learn what I need to learn (I'm self taught and yet I know more about Excel than most people I know . . . not to toot my own horn).
Is "Indirect" a formula for a newer version of Excel? Oh heck, don't answer. I'll find out myself by EOD.

Have you thought of using VBA and having functions instead?

User functions provide a lot more flexibility when it comes to complex queries and lookups as you can do loops, if then else type calculations.
