Moves are done and combat is underway.
The Coalition once again considered attacking the Kzinti Capital (where a whole lot of Kzinti are holed up), but given that it would take 138SEQ to pin everything in 1401, and there were still a bunch of planets and BATS (and a SB) to kill, they chose to feint at the capital, and then just overwhelming kill everything they wanted to kill. The sent a fleet to planet 1202 early (i.e. the place that the Kzinti could react to), and then just avoided R2 of 1401, hitting BATS 1405, 1605, planets 1105, 1506 (as well as 1202), and SB 0902, all with significant fleets. A bunch of ships were left in 1001 and 1102, making it difficult to get the off map reserve to 0902 (it would have required the Kzinti reserve in 1704 attacking hex 1102 to open it up to get to 0902).
The Kzinti sent both their reserves to 1202, which they will certainly save.
The Klingons killed BATS 1405, 1605, and took planets 1105 and 1506 without a single cripple, only losing fighters. Currently, the Lyrans are attacking SB 0902 (they have about 40 ships vs the Kzinti's SB and a dozen ships). The Lyrans will certainly take cripples.

Combat is mostly done. Over SB 0902, the Lyrans lost BC, 2CW, 2SC, and took a few cripples, killing 2BC, CL, and the SB. The Kzinti retreated, but will end the turn out of supply (not super important, but keeps them from going rogue into Lyran space).
At 1202, the arrival of a couple Kzinti reserves forced the Lyrans off, both sides losing a small ship in the approach.
As of press time, the Coalition now hold most of Kzinti space, but are yet to visit the Kzinti capital.

Turn is over!
The Coalition have maintained a significant presence in Kzinti space, and have a huge fleet in 1407 where the Lyrans are upgrading a MB>BATS. They moved most of their new builds and various other ships to the Hydran border.
There are Klingon Reserves in 1407, 0408, 1212, and 1716. There are Lyran reserves in 0411, 0413, 0810.
The Lyrans have 30+ ships in 0411, 15 in 0413, another dozen as a reserve in 0810, and a few at BATS 0212.
The Klingons have the Home Fleet in 1212, West Fleet in 1214, and then another 40 some odd ships in 1013, along with a Lyran Supply TG and a couple FRDs.
Ships Killed:
-Kzinti: 2BC, CL, FKE
-Lyran: BC, 2CW, DW, 2SC
Kzinti also lost SB, 2BATS, minor planet, and minor planet 1507 has been subjugated.

The Hydrans build a TG and 10 various FFs, convert a couple LNs into a UH and a DE, and put 4 more PDUs on their homeworld. The Kzinti build a CV, 3MEC, a CD, and then 8 various FFs. They also put 2 more PDUs on their homeworld (up to 18). Seems like a reasonable play, given that the Coalition have not entered the Kzinti Capital yet.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, September 18, 2017 - 09:48 pm: Edit |
In my original Eco I had the Kzinti not even building any PDU. But I figured that is the old red rag to a bull.
So I found a way to build 2 PDU.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 - 10:09 am: Edit |
Heh. Seems reasonable. I mean, like, the Coalition have to end up there at *some* point...
AT3
Moves have started. The Kzinti are pinning/attacking various Lyran forces in the NW of Kzinti space (including held planet 1001), presumably to open up a path for the 10 or so out of supply refugees from SB 0902 that started the turn stranded (and, ya know, kill some stuff too).
In Hydran space, the Hydrans are not just covering their heads, and they have sent the Home Fleet (so far) to attack Lyran BATS 0413, which currently has about 15 ships stationed at it.
Moves continue.

Movement and combat are done!
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti took advantage of a limited number of reserves on the front (one) and attacked the Lyrans in a bunch of spots, killing numerous small ships, and rescuing their out of supply force that was trapped behind enemy lines.
In Hydran space, the Hydrans rushed the two Lyran border BATS; they killed 0212 with no opposition; the attack on 0413 drew a reaction from the ships on SB 0411, as well as 3 nearby reserves (including a Klingon reserve stationed in the Lyran capital). The Lyrans didn't fight an approach, and just directed a couple RNs out of existence as the Hydrans killed the BATS over two rounds of directing. The Hydrans then left the neighborhood.
Ships Killed:
-Kzinti: EFF
-Hydran: 2RN
-Lyran: DW, DD, 2FF

No raids this turn. So far, neither of us have used raids much, if at all. If you keep aware of the possibility of raids, and just stack province raiders in 2's or 3's, they generally seem like something that doesn't come up that much. The Coalition doesn't have a lot of opportunities for unopposed province raiding (due to the small size of Kzinti/Hydran space), and don't feel like sending big, important ships on raids to disrupt a province now and then. The Alliance seem to feel about the same way--they don't want to put fast DNs in the raid pool, and smaller ships seem risky to try and raid with.
Movement is underway. So far, in Kzinti space, the Coalition have started gang piling on the Kzinti capital, sending 100+ ships so far.
In Hydran space, the Coalition have, so far, attacked BATS 0515, 0714, 0915, 1116, and 1219 (all of which are undefended and only 0515 is in range of a reserve), as well as piling 30+ ships on SB 0716, which is defended by 7 or 8 small ships (although it isn't impossible that some ships will react out of the Capital, but there are still 100+ ships in range of the Capital).
Moves continue.

I don't think the Lyrans can produce two STTs a turn.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, September 22, 2017 - 09:52 pm: Edit |
They have a limit of substituting STT for CA once per year, and no more than two maulers of any type per turn. So they can produce two STTs on a turn when they sub one (or, really, if they had a second SB, they could convert two in a single turn if they were so inclined and wanted to pay a huge amount for them...)

Movement is done and I'm waiting on reserves.
In Hydran space, the Coalition piled 100+ ships into the Capital (although they aren't a particularly spectacular 100+ ships), attacked planet 0718, SB 0716 with enough ships to probably kill it, and 5 BATS, starting at 0515 and moving east, not attacking 1217.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition dropped 120+ ships in the capital, 15 or so on planet 1202, and sent an F5 to planet 1502, but also a Klingon convoy to 1602...
Reserves to move.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, September 24, 2017 - 08:44 am: Edit |
CT4
Combat is underway.
The Kzinti sent a reserve to 1401 and another reserve to 1502 (where that way the Kzinti will be able to do some damage over the 4PDUs when the Coalition retreat onto the planet). The Hydrans sent a reserve to 0617 and one to go save BATS 0515.
So far, the Coalition have killed BATS 0716, 0915, 1116, 1219 for a few cripples and a bunch of fighters, captured major planet 0718 for a few cripples, and currently are destroying SB 0716, where they have mauled some Hydran ships and seen a lot of SIDS go up, losing an D5 and cripples.
Combat continues.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, September 25, 2017 - 09:30 pm: Edit |
CT4
In Hydran space, the Coalition drove straight for the Hydran homeworld (which had 12PDUs on it). In the first 3 rounds, the Hydrans rolled 4, 6, 6, causing an insane amount of damage to the Coalition. The Coalition have, in 3 rounds, managed to strip 10 of 12PDUs so far.
Yeesh.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, September 25, 2017 - 11:04 pm: Edit |
The Hydrans continued to roll well (Hyrans rolled another 6).
After the Coalition stripped the final 2xPDU they fled, with the Hydrans in pursuit.
On a BIR of 5, the Hydrans rolled 5 and the Coalition rolled 1. So 2 crippled D6M were added to the scrap heap.
All up we have the following:
Hydrans Dead: 12xPDU and fighters.
KLI Dead: 2D6M, 4D5, 2F5L
KLI Crippled: 2D6M, 2D7C, 2D5, 3F5L, F5
LYR Dead: DN, DW, SC
LYR Crippled: DN, 2BC, BT, 10CC, 2CW, DW, SC
So all up the Hydrans rolls were: 3, 6, 6, 6, 5 (avg 5.2).
The Coalition rolls were: 4, 3, 5, 5, 1 (avg 3.6).
So the Coalition were going fairly well until the finish, but still ended up well behind the Hydrans.
We are now moving on to the Kzinti where who knows what will happen with the rolls !
By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 12:51 am: Edit |
Pwehaps the Kzinti will not roll as badly as the Hydrans did.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 12:54 am: Edit |
Yeah, if the dice average out over the Kzinti Capital it could well be a case of a raid turning in to a removal !
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 07:35 am: Edit |
Yeah, that was totally brutal. I'm pretty sure we were just having a discussion somewhere where the jist was "Yeah, someone can roll, like, three 6's in a row over the capital, or whatever, but what are the chances?"
Gah.
The Coalition rolled fine. The Hydrans rolled insane.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 08:20 am: Edit |
And worth pointing out that on the second round of combat (Hydrans at, like, 250+ compot), BIR rolled up to 9, and they rolled a 6 for 45% damage (115 total). If only I had picked a BIR4 instead of 3...
By Stewart Frazier (Frazikar2) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 - 07:16 pm: Edit |
It's always a question on when to be bold...

(I was the Lyrans, getting shot in the face by the 45% damage...)

[Have done that, but never worried about the losses until after completing the objective. And some of them HURT (like a third of the fleet destroyed or crippled)!!!]

Over in Kzinti space, the Klingons captured planet 1202 to minimal resistance, killing an FF on the way, and in 1401, the Coalition spread out over three different systems (one major and a minor), the Kzinti defended them pretty well, rolled nuts again, shot down a D6M, BC, and DWS while the Coalition killed 4+2+2PDUs. On R2, the Klingons just sent a big line to the stripped minor with only -2 damage hanging over it, the Kzinti defended it, and finally the Klingons rolled up, scoring, like, 40 damage with an autokill on the Kzinti defending line.
Combat continues.
