Combat is over! In the Kzinti capital, the Coaltion stripped 4+2+2 PDUs from a couple minors and a major, retreated onto 1502, fought a couple rounds trading hulls with the Kzinti reserve force until they didn't want to fight any more and they retreated, allowing the Coalition to devastate and capture 1502 as well.

This was an incredibly bloody turn, in terms of dead ships--the Coalition lost, like, 20+ hulls, many of them big; the Alliance lost about half as many.

I'm not at all exaggerating when I point out that the Alliance rolled "6" for the combat damage at least half of their rolls turn. The Coalition rolled fine; the Alliance rolled completely crazily.

CT4

The Coalition spent 56EPs on field repair on the Hydran front (3 Klingon repair ships, 3 Lyran repair ships, a Klingon repair tug).

At the end of the turn, in Hydran space, the Coalition have a few ships scattered around holding provinces, a small Lyran force holding planet 0718, two dozen ships including a reserve on SB 0411, and 150+ ships, including three reserves in 1013, plus a Lyran TG setting up a MB and half a dozen FRDs.

In Kzinti space, the Coalition are holding all planets outside of the Capital, have 150+ ships between the Kzinti fleet in 1401 and the Lyran BATS>SB conversion in 1407, most of which are on planet 1504, and a battle line on 1202. Most of Kzinti space is held by the Coalition. All but seven small Kzinti ships are in 1401 at press time. The is a modest Klingon reserve in 1407, and another small reserve in 1009.

At the end of the turn, after transfers, field repair, and salvage, the Klingons have about 38EP saved, and the Lyrans have about 30EP saved.

AT4

The Hydran economy is about 68EPs, including 7EPs from savings and salvage. They activate PAL, build TG, 3HR, 6 various FFs. They also convert a couple LNs into a UH and a DE.

The Kzinti economy is about 66EPs, including 5EPs saved from the previous turn and salvage. They build BC, TGC, 3MEC, CM, FKE, FFK, 4FF, and convert a BC>CV, and also activate their DDV.

In the raid phase, the Kzinti raid a deep Klingon hex, killing an intercepting POL with a BF, disrupting a province. The Hydrans do a similar thing to a border Lyran province with a THR.

The Hydrans have started moving, mostly moving to engage small groups of Coalition ships in the east edge of Hydran space.

The Kzinti have sent a force to planet 1202, that is held by about 15 Klingons.

Moves continue.

Ive decided to play aggressively this game, so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

The Coalition had to do a heap of field repairs at the end of T4C which was costly, but if it hadnt been done then the Alliance would have been able to hit a few key planets/BATS.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, October 05, 2017 - 08:35 am: Edit

AT4

Movement is over, combat is underway.

In Kzinti space, the Kzinti avoided the main Coalition fleet (in 1504) or anything near it, attacking to the SW of Kzinti space. They will likely liberate planets 1001, 1202, 1105 (really, the only one in question is 1202, where the Coalition have a significant, but smaller, fleet); they are also gonna kill a few province raiders. They made a deep strike at BATS 0906, but a weak (although big enough) reserve showed up to save it.

In Hydran space, the Hydrans are killing a few province raiders, liberating planet 0718, and attacked some province raiders in 0716 which resulted in 4 Coalition reserves showing up to defend that E4.

No huge or highly significant fights. Combat will probably be pretty quick, seeing the Kzinti recapture space and kill more ships than they lose, the Hydrans recapture some space, and probably break even, hull loss wise.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, October 07, 2017 - 08:17 am: Edit

AT4

Turn is over. The Hydrans and Kzinti both liberated some space and killed more ships than they lost, but otherwise, not a huge amount happened.

The Kzinti pulled most of their ships back to the Capital, and have two reserves off map. The Hydrans have a few ships at planet 0718, a few ships at SB 1017, about 20 ships at SB 0215, and then a couple reserves off map.

Ships Killed:
-Kzinti: BC, FF
-Hydran: DG

-Lyran: CW, 3FF
-Klingon: F5, E4

Movement is done, and combat is underway.

In Hydran space, the Coalition piled ships in the Capital, and then attacked BATS 1217 (undefended), SB 1017 (about 6 unimpressive ships there), planet 0718 (weak defending force), BATS 0515 (undefended), planet 0519 (undefended), planet 0416 (undefended). The Hydrans sent both of their off map reserves to the Capital (which was kind of woefully undefended before the reserves showed up).

So far the Coalition killed BATS 0515 for a fighters, captured planet 0416 for a crippled F5, and captured planet 0519 for a couple crippled Lyrans (who, unfortunately, can't retrograde anywhere, as they went to far from supply).

In Kzinti space, the Coalition also piled a lot of ships in the capital, then sent small groups of ships to retake planets 1001 and 1105 (both undefended), planet 1202 (defended by a small group of ships) and kill BATS 1805 (undefended). The Kzinti sent both their off map reserves to the Capital.

BATS 1805 has been killed for a crippled CL and some fighters. A couple planets are back under Coalition control.

As of press time, however, I have run into a problem, in that I updated my computer system (OS 10.13), which has resulted in a weird glitch in the Vassal F+E module we are using (1.3.1); I can't move ship counters out of fleet boxes. I can put them in fleet boxes. I can delete them and rebuild them on the map. I can move them around in the fleet boxes. But I can't take a counter out of the fleet box and put it on the map. Which is incredibly debilitating to playing this game. And yeah, I know, I'm using the old F+E module, and if I were using the new one, this probably wouldn't be a problem. But at this point, the game is on 1.3.1, and can't open in Vassal F+E 2.0. And unless this glitch can get fixed (which seems super unlikely), we either gotta play with an incredibly irritating, debilitating bug, or I gotta painstakingly rebuild the game, hex by hex, fleet by fleet, in F+E 2.0. Gah.

I have contacted James, but haven't heard back yet.

Jave RTE issue fixed; F+E operational. Now if I can just get SFBOL to work at the same time...

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 - 05:46 pm: Edit

Its probably 10 years since I last played SFBOL.

I think a couple of F&E games at a time is enough to keep me busy.

Shame I am down to one game at the moment...

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 08:19 am: Edit

Heh, yeah, got SFBOL to work (which just required downloading and clean installing the new version) *and* F+E to work. Man. Everything is coming up Millhouse!

All non capital system combats are done; the Hydrans lost a couple minor planets, lost control of 0718 again, a couple BATS, and SB 1017. The Coalition lost a handful of ships and took a few cripples in these operations (losing, like, 2D6, and 2F5s over the SB). They are now moving into the Hydran capital fight.

In Kzinti space, the Kzinti lost control a 3 already devastated planets and BATS 1805, and it remains to be seen what the Coalition will do in their Capital.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 05:55 pm: Edit

Im hoping the Coalition decide to take 2 Capitals in the same turn.

That always works out, right?

The Coalition raided the Hydran capital again, this time stripping the PDUs off all planets in the system and devastating 3 of the minor planets. They lost 2D6D, 2 shiny new STTs, and a D5S, also taking a few cripples. After devastating those 3 minors, they left the system with no pursuit.

The Hydran Capital is now at 0PDU, SB over homeworld, 2 undevastated majors (with no PDUs).

On to Kzintai!

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, October 12, 2017 - 11:25 am: Edit

Oops. That is 2D6M's killed, not 2D6Ds.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 10:28 pm: Edit

CT5

In the Kzinti Capital, the Coalition stripped all the PDUs off all planets except Kzintai (which still has 18), and devastated numerous planets; the Kzinti Capital now has 1 devastated major and 4 devastated minor planets. After that, the Coalition left the system; the lost a couple maulers and a D5S, and took about 10 cripples, but nothing terrible. Pursuit may or may not occur at this point (but seems likely).

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 15, 2017 - 09:29 am: Edit

CT5

The turn is over!

The Coalition raided both the Kzinti and Hydran Capitals, stripping a lot of PDUs. The Hydran Capital has zero PDUs left (just the SB over the homeworld); the Kzinti still have 18PDU on Kzintai, but no other PDUs. All three minors in the Hydran capital are devastated, the majors are not. The Kzinti capital has 4 devastated minors and 1 devastated major.

The Hydrans lost a few BATS, SB 1017, and all three non capital planets are captured. The Kzinti basically only control their Capital and the Marquis zone.

The Coalition lost a lot of ships; the Klingons gained 19.2 EP in salvage; the Lyrans 4.

Ships Killed:
ZIN: EFF
HYD: LN, CU, SC

LYR: 2STT
KLI: 4D6M, 2D6, 2D5S, 2D5, F5, F5S

The Hydrans lost SB, 2BATS, and 18PDU.
The Kzinti lost BATS and 12PDU.

On the Hydran front, the Coalition have a big fleet in 1013, a modest fleet in 0411, and two dozen ships spread around Hydran space. They have 2 reserves in 1013 and a small reserve in 0411.

On the Kzinti front, they have a big fleet in 1504, big fleet in 1407, a reasonable reserve in 1407, small reserves in 0705, 0906, and 1509.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 - 08:56 pm: Edit

AT5

The Kzinti and Hydran economies are pretty crushed, but they still do ok building stuff--the Hydrans make a DG, 2HR, TR, and a bunch of FFs; the Kzinti build a CV (having saved 6 FFF), a BC, 3MEC, and a bunch of FFs.

They have started moving; the Kzinti have attacked planet 1502 so far; the Hydrans are attacking all of the held planets so far in their space.

Moves continue.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 - 09:36 pm: Edit

AT5

Moves continue. In Kzinti space, the Kzinti have moved most of their fleet to planet 1504, where a big chunk of Klingons are sitting (currently about 93 SEQ of Klingons and 94 Kzinti) along with a convoy. It remains to be seen how long the Klingons are willing to defend the planet and the convoy. They also have about 9SEQ of ships on planet 1502, where there are 4 Klingon FFs.

The Hydrans have attacked occupied planets 0416, 0519, and 0718 with significant forces that out weigh anything that is on those planets. The Coalition have 3 reserves in the area, but it is unlikely that even all three of the reserves will save any of the planets.

Moves continue.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, October 21, 2017 - 03:33 pm: Edit

AT5

Moves and combat are done.

In Kzinti spcae, the Kzinti managed to recapture planets 1001, 1202, 1502, and 1504, but the Coalition still hold at least 6 provinces and planet 1105.

In Hydran space, the Hydrans took back planets 0416, 0519, and 0718, but the Coalition also still hold at least 6 provinces.

Ships Killed:
-Kzinti: 2SF
-Hydran: HR

-Lyran: 2DD, 2FF
-Klingon: D6D, F5S, 2F5, (Convoy)

The Coalition took it on the chin, ship exchange wise this turn, but then, most of the ships killed were already crippled and left to garrison planets. And then didn't make it back.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 22, 2017 - 09:58 am: Edit

AT5

The turn is over!

The Kzinti have most of their ships in 1401, 8 ships on 1502, and a couple solid reserves off map.

The Hydrans have about 25 ships at SB 0215, 8 ships in hex 0119, a moderate reserves off map. and then all the rest of their fleet in the capital, including a reserve.

Movement is underway! In Hydran space, the Coalition have piled tons of ships (about 150 SEQ vs the Hydran's about 100 SEQ) on the Capital, are gonna capture 0718 with an FF; have attacked 0519 with an E4; have what is probably a pinning force on SB 0215, a small force attacking BATS 0315, and a full battle line (big enough to likely dissuade the reserve that could possibly go there) on planet 0416.

No movement yet on the Kzinti front.
