Okay, I read that around the wrong way and was thinking I could hit the MB without the SB.

Im not eager to hit the SB so I can then get to the MB.

Yep. That.

Well, T7A is basically over. The Alliance was very happy with how things were going until the final fight of the final fight.

The pursuit roll in 1807 succeeded and the VBIR roll was a 6 and the Coalition rolled a 6. So they managed to maul 2ncl and an ff and didnt suffer shock when he took his chances by crippling other ships.

Im sure Peter will be able to provide a far more precise summary, or I can when I get home later tonight.

Combat is over!

In Hydran space, the Hydrans killed Lyran BATS 0109, recaptured planets 0416 and 0519, and reopened supply to SB 0215 from the off map area. They attacked SB 0411, but fled after an approach round.

In Kzinti space, they recaptured planets 1001 and 1105 and killed Klingon BATS 1807. On the upside, the Klingons got to maul 3 cripples in the pursuit after the BATS fight, and the mauler didn't even break down.

In Fed space, the Feds killed Klingon BATS 2215, cut off the E4 in the Orion province, and killed a few province raiders.

Ships Killed:
-ZIN: EFF
-HYD: KN
-FED: 2NCL, 3FF

-LYR: CC, FF
-KLI: D5, F5, 7E4

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, November 20, 2017 - 07:30 pm: Edit

Yep, that fight over 1807 was nasty. I was really pleased with the turn until I got the email with the pursuit rolls...

By Paul Howard (Raven) on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 - 02:42 am: Edit

Well based on those kills - the Alliance has still got to be pretty happy with the result.....just someone stole the cherry from the top of the cake :)

Assuming most of those E4's died as 'pick a ship to die and the rest can live' - I can see why you overbuilt them!!

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 - 07:42 am: Edit

Yeah, that is how the E4s die. Provinces and planets are generally garrisoned by an E4, something bigger, and then adjacent to another E4 and something bigger that are garrisoning a different province. When they are inevitably jumped on, one pair reacts onto the other pair, and, assuming it is a significant attack force, an E4 dies, and the other three retreat to do it again. Over three fronts, that results in many E4s dying every turn.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 - 04:53 pm: Edit

Paul, as I said, I was very happy with the turn right until that final roll. But I had previously been fairly lucky on Pursuit rolls, so Peter was probably owed.

And the biggest ship I lost was an NCL. I managed to get one of his CC.

During the raid phase, the Romulans raided into some Eastern Fed provinces, seeing two provinces disrupted, and a squadron of fighters scaring away a KE.

Moves are under way. In Hydran space, the Coalition have sent a big force (that is conveniently the exact size needed to pin everything) to SB 0215; have sent significant forces to planet 0416 and to a stack of ships holding open the entrance to the Old Colonies (big enough to likely beat the stack and the off map Hydran reserve).

In Kzinti space, nothing has been attacked yet; a few ships moved around to hold provinces, ships on the Kzinti border have moved into Fed space.

In Fed space a lot of ships have attacked SB 2211; fleets have attacked BATS 2006, 2008, and 2213; squadrons have attacked planet 2715 and some ships cutting off the E4 in the Orion province.

Moves continue.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 - 04:48 pm: Edit

The Feds are now left with a choice. They can most likely hit the Coalition ships in 2814 which are attempting to re-open the path to Orion - meaning the Coalition lose an E4 and the Feds get a heap of extra cash next turn, or they can send some pretty decent Reserves to 2211 and defend an SB.

At this time I have no idea which I will choose.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 - 05:08 pm: Edit

CT8

Movement is done; not much has changed. The Coalition did not engage anything in Kzinti space, or anything that the off map Kzinti reserves to reach; the Coalition are likely taking back a planet in Hydran space and cutting 0215 off from the off map; the Feds are likely gonna lose a few BATS.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, November 26, 2017 - 08:36 pm: Edit

CT8

Combat is underway. In Hydran space, the Coalition recaptured planet 0416, killed 3FFs, and retreated from SB 0215. In Fed space, the Coalition have killed 4BATS, captured planet 2715, took a handful of cripples, kiled a few FFs, and are currently fighting over SB 2211; the Coalition have about 100 ships; the Feds have about 50. Remains to be seen how long the fight will last.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, November 27, 2017 - 09:16 am: Edit

CT8

At the start of R6 into the fight over Fed SB 2211. So far, the Klingons have lost 2D6M, MD5, F5L (to a forced self kill), taken 17 cripples, and are down to about half their fighters. The Feds have lost 4DE (to mauling), FF (also forced self kill; R3, BIR went up to 9 and both sides rolled 6's, for 45% damage each...), 9 cripples, 4SIDS (self applied), and are down to one CVS full of fighters and the two squadrons on the SB.

The fight could go for a long time at this point, or not. We'll see what happens.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - 09:22 am: Edit

CT8

Combat over SB 2211 is complete, seeing the SB go down after 9 rounds of combat. The Klingons started at about 100 ships and the Feds at about 50+SB.

The Klingons lost 2D6M, MD5, F5L, D6S, D5S and took 22 other cripples. The Feds lost 4DE, 2FF, SAV and took 17 cripples on top of that. The Klingons hovered around 110-115 compot most of the fight with between 7-10 EW (only benefitting from a shift once, at which point the Feds immediately killed a D5S to even things out again); the Feds hovered between 130-145 compot with 6EW most of the time (SC, E2C, SB point). The Klingons mauled DEs to push good carriers off the line until the maulers were dead (2D6M were killed instantly, the MD5 got to maul twice before it was killed) but otherwise just dropped damage. The Feds killed maulers and a couple scouts after defeat seemed inevitable. Three ships were killed by rolling a 6 auto kills (F5L, 2 Fed FF); dice were pretty even, with the Klingons probably rolling up a bit relative to the Feds.

The Feds retreated their force (under cover of a one SID crippled SB) to 2312 (i.e. a hex to the SE), giving them a doorway towards the SE of Klingon space.

That's combat for the turn.

CT8

The turn is over!

In Kzinti space, nothing happened. The Coalition held down provinces, but didn't engage anything at all.

In Hydran space, the Coalition retook planet 0416, cut SB 0215 (and the Hydran Fleet) off from the off map area, and moved ships around; they are currently setting up a MB over the Hydran capital, and I'm pretty certain they can pin the Hydrans out of the hex.

In Fed space, the Klingons killed SB 2211 (3rd Fleet), a few BATS, and captured planet 2715. They still aren't reducing the Fed economy that much (about 25EPs reduced currently), but are making headway.

After retrogrades, etc., the Coalition have, like, 130 ships over the Hydran capital, about 60 over SB 0411; about 50 between the Fed 3rd Fleet (about 40 SEQ) and anything they want to attack (they are in range of Klingon SB 2318), and about 140 SQ between the Kzinti and Klingon SB 1509.

The Coalition have 7 full reserves spread around the map (a bunch of ships didn't move this turn); 2 over 0617; one in the Klingon Capital (the 2nd IWR squadron); one at SB 1509; one in 1407, one in 1504, and one at planet 1802.

Ships Killed:
-Hydran: 2CU, HN
-Fed: 4DE, 3FF, (SAV)

-Klingon: 2D6M, D6S, MD5, D5S, F5L

Feds also lost SB, 4BATS, 2PDU. Both the Klingons and Lyrans spent about 24EPs on field repair.

AT8

The Hydrans built a LN, CU, and freebie PGV off map. They also converted some HN into AH at their SB.

The Kzinti built a CV, MSC, 2CM, MEC, and 7 various FFs.

The Feds built a CVA, 2DE, TG, 3NCL, 4FF, overbuilt 4NCL, upgraded 2MB in the capital to BATS; converted a DN to DN+, activated 8 ships.

Everyone repaired the handful of cripples they had.

Ah, the old module. I miss it less all the time.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 - 08:09 pm: Edit

Well, ya know, we started with it, so aren't changing it now :-)

By Paul Howard (Raven) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 07:30 am: Edit

No extra Federation carriers (CV or FV's)?

So you think the Klingons want Earth then?

Lastly - I do understand extra fire power is key - but 4 overbuilt NCL's could have been 8 overbuild FF's.

Would not pin count help the Feds more at this stage?

PS What Module change has happened?

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 09:52 am: Edit

Module change?

I think he's talking about the V1.z to V2.x Vassal module update.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 11:29 am: Edit

Yeah, James is talking about Vassal (of which he is the guy who designs and maintains the Vassal module); this game is on the older version; I started a game with the newer version at some point, and found all the updated graphics confusing, but that is just me :-)

I can't speak to what Jason's plans are for the Feds. He likes to overbuild NCLs.

At press time, the Feds are doing just fine. They have plenty of money, and are poised for various effective counter attacking. The Klingons are nowhere near Earth currently.

By James Lowry (Rindis) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 12:49 pm: Edit

Really? For the most part, it's just cleaner versions of the same graphics as before. Feel free to go over to the Vassal thread and tell me what you didn't like/found confusing. It's hard to do much if people don't give me feedback....

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 04:25 pm: Edit

Paul, at the moment I see opportunities for the Feds to force the Klingons to be defensive and move slowly. I think I can do that better with NCL than FF.

At the moment Im not spending every penny while also upgrading bases, so there can come a time when I make 15 to 20 FF in a turn (including the ones on the prod list and the mothballs).
