Combat seems to be wrapping up. As noted, the Alliance haven't been rolling that hot. But even then, so far, there are 22 dead Coalition and 18 dead Alliance ships, with the Coalition losing a lot more good ships (the Alliance have lost FFs except for one KN that got caught too close to the Lyrans; the Coalition have lost about 10 ships 6 compot or larger).
A few more fights to resolve.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Thursday, June 28, 2018 - 08:56 pm: Edit |
I just think its about time I had rolled a 6 to your 1. Even if I am up against a 2 shift because of your crazy Coalition EW

Lyran DWS' make good targets from time to time, and you might even get lucky and capture them.
By chris upson (Misanthropope) on Thursday, June 28, 2018 - 10:39 pm: Edit |
what's this "DWS" you speak of? maybe it's just me, but i never have enough DW hulls to go around (to be fair, i make maximizing lyran carrier groups kind of a fetish), and always wind up using D6D and D5S as my EW spam.
the D5S lives kind of a charmed life, it's a fine ship but when 24 damage is mustered the alliance seems to generally have something better to do with it.

Combat is over!
In Hydran space, the Hydrans fought over 0416 for 5 rounds, trading FFs (and a KN) for bigger and better ships, and also held supply open to the off map. It remains to be seen if the main Hydran fleet will stay on the map this turn.
In Kzint space, the Kzinti took back planet 1001, killed Klingon BATS 1107, and traded a bunch of FFs for bigger and better ships over 1506.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Feds took back planets 2403, 2509, but were repulsed by the B10 over planet 2106.
On the Fed/Romulan front, the Feds killed a bunch of small, province raiding Romulan ships and a couple cruisers over held planets, but otherwise didn't change much.
On the Gorn front, the Gorn killed a few small Romulans, but otherwise didn't fight real hard.
Ships Killed:
-LYR: BC, 3CW, 3DWE, SC, FFE, FF
-KLI: D5, F5E, 5E4
-ROM: KE, K7R, 2WE, 2SN, K4
-ZIN: 7FF
-HYD: KN, AH, 2CU, HN
-FED: 6FF
-GRN: DDE
Another 43 dead ships this turn.

In terms of cost the Coalition lost twice as much as the Alliance.
But think of the salvage !!
By chris upson (Misanthropope) on Friday, June 29, 2018 - 09:55 pm: Edit |
alliance managed their costs absurdly well, that's for sure. if the front is where it was last turn this time it's champagne shampoo all 'round
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 04:15 am: Edit |
'Only' 66 ships was destroyed though over the whole turn - so the ship count on the map must have gone up a couple?
Certainly does seem to be a lot of small/middle level Coalition ships dying (5-7 compot) - how many more turns will be needed before they run out of these ships?
If the Alliance can make more battle hexes - they might get to see some weaker lines though in a few more turns?
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 06:23 pm: Edit |
The mid level ships get made in their hundreds.
Only a few bigger ships get made but they almost never die. Unless hitting an SB or Capital system.
There will be PFs long before we would get close to ship parity too. So its really just a case of when Peter wants to win.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 07:10 pm: Edit |
Heh, yeah, here is the thing.
I don't think I'm really in a position to win any time soon. I could probably take a second capital (Kzinti, probably, or Gorn if I reallocated forces quickly) without *too* much effort, but I think doing so would really start making me collapse pretty quickly. I already am feeling like my ability to conduct offensives is rapidly dwindling. I can kill random BATS here and there. I could get another SB or two, but I can't realistically threaten the Fed Capital at this point, and without moving a *lot* of ships, I can't realistically threaten the Gorn Capital (I can raid it and mess up the minor planets, and possibly capture one of the non Shipyard hexes, but taking the Shipyard is gonna take a *lot* of doing).
From where I stand, at this point, I can keep winning some minor victories, and possibly knock out another Capital if I put a lot of work into it, but I can't see me winning a decisive victory any time soon, and I think in the long run, you start pushing back and we inevitably push to a draw.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 07:16 pm: Edit |
So on T17 as a whole:
The Coalition built 59 ships, lost 37, for a net gain of +22.
The Alliance built 62, lost 29, for a net gain of +33.
They are catching up.
By jim howard (Noseybonk) on Sunday, July 01, 2018 - 05:47 am: Edit |
go for broke, mass a huge number of ships and kill the fed shipyard
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Sunday, July 01, 2018 - 06:44 am: Edit |
So really it could come down to the Tholians.
I dont want to play for a draw. If I start to get an edge Im going to get me a Capital !
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, July 01, 2018 - 08:47 am: Edit |
That's the spirit!
And yeah, the Tholians are going to be a problem in a few turns. They have a significant fleet on T22 (including the Neo Tholians, but I think most of those can't leave Tholian space) and most of them can reach 2BATS, major planet (those were already there), and then the two star bases I conveniently parked in 2916 (as it seemed like a good idea at the time). I mean, like, it will be really hard for them to kill those SBs if I defend them, but defending them will take a big pile of ships away from other important places they need to be.
Yeah, I think at this point, the Feds have too many ships (and growing) to realistically get the Capital. As of the start of CT17, there are about 160 ships in range of Earth, and the Fed can easily have that many ships in their capital. The Klingons have a giant fleet on 2106, and the Feds have a similar sized, but slightly bigger, fleet that will probably be sitting on 2306, preventing the Klingon fleet from getting to 2306 to capture it (which they need to do, to have a solid supply point in range of the Capital on that side).
Like, it isn't impossible to get to the Fed capital in the near future. But at press time, it seems very tricky.

The turn is mostly over!
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti pulled most of their ships back to their Capital or SB 1704; they have a few ships on planet 1802 and 2 reasonable reserves off map.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Feds pulled most of their ships back to around the Capital, with a lot of ships in and around 2908 (including 4 reasonable reserves, making up a total of 41 ships spread among the 4); there are still about 80 ships on planet 2505, however.
On the Fed/Romulan front, again, most ships pulled back to the Capital (or neighboring SBs); a handful of ships up around BATS 2905; about 50 ships at SB 3604; handfuls of ships on various surviving BATS in that area as well.
In Gorn space, the Gorn pulled about 50 ships to SB 4206; have about 60 ships in 4403; two reserve totaling 17 ships in 4402; handfuls of ships spread around on various other planets and BATS. The Gorn took full advantage of their half cost field repair this turn, fixing all of their numerous cripples that way.
The Hydrans have once again pulled all their ships off map to regroup.

Yeah, once I start doing things other than dithering around and looking for a good position and/or opening, that money will dwindle quickly :-)

CT18
Moves have started. Hydran space was easy. Ships got moved around, provinces got recaptured. Done. In Kzinti space, the Lyrans have moved back to recapture planet 1001 and pin the Kzinti fleet at 1704.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons sent a big fleet to recapture planet 2306, and the Feds reacted a few dozen ships to fight. The Klingons also moved ships to retake planets 2509 and 2610 (both currently undefended).
On the Romulan front, so far a big Romulan fleet based on planet 3509 has moved to attack SB 2907 (the one directly north of the Capital). A million ships can react in from various places, so we'll see where that goes.
In Gorn space, the Romulans have just sent ships to pin the fleet at SB 4206 so far.
Plenty of ships left to move.

CT18
Moves are done and reserves have moved.
In Hydran space, no combat is happening. As all the Hydrans are off map.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition are attacking undefended planet 1001, lightly defended planet 1802, and pinning SB 1704. The Kzinti didn't move their reserves.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons have a giant fleet vs a smaller, but significant fleet at devastated planet 2306, and two fleets capturing undefended, devastated planets 2509 and 2610.
On the Fed/Romulan front, the Romulans sent a significant fleet to SB 2907, which is facing a big fleet that reserved in, and then all the reserves. The Klingons sent a big fleet to retake lightly defended devastated planet 3005.
In Gorn space, there is a fleet pinning SB 4206 and then a significant fleet hitting planet 4705, which is defended by about 20 ships, including 2 reserves that showed up.
Only 7 actual combat hexes with opposing ships, and most of those will be short fights. The Coalition seems much less ambitious than the Alliance these days.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, July 03, 2018 - 06:05 pm: Edit |
7?
Soft.
Cant even reach double figures.
I clearly need to aim for 40 combat hexes in my turn !!
