The Kzintis better got some good stuff for their 13 frigates which is over a turn's worth of full production excluding MSYs.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, October 01, 2018 - 08:10 pm: Edit |
This game isn't using Minor Shipyards.
The Kzinti have killed bigger and better ships than they lost, and caused more cripples than they took. So seems like a reasonable trade to me.
AT18
Combat is nearing completion!
Kzinti space is done; in Hydran space, the Hydrans retreated from planet 0416 after 3 rounds of combat; in Fed space, the Coalition gave up planet 2106, held onto planet 2306, saved planet 3005, and are currently fighting over planets 3210 and 3509. In Gorn space, the Gorn killed a K4 that failed to cloak out, and are fighting over planet 4705.
So far, the Coalition have lost 21 ships and the Alliance have lost 19 ships, with the Coalition losing generally bigger and better ships.
A few fights left to shake out.

AT18
Combat is almost done. In Gorn space, the Gorn sank a K4 that failed to cloak away, and blew up an SP in exchange for an HD before fleeing from Romulan held planet 4705. Only a couple fights left in Fed space (planets 3210 and 3509) are still under way. There is also a fight in the corner of Romulan space, where about 40 Gorn are attacking two dozen Romulan reserve ships over a BATS that might be exciting.
As of press time, 24 Coalition and 22 Alliance ships killed.

AT18
Combat is over!
In Hydran space, not much happened. The Hydrans attacked Lyran held planet 0416, and some province raiders at the mouth of the Old Colonies. After combat, there is a giant Hydran fleet in 0316 and a moderate fleet in 0118, holding open supply.
In Kzinti space, the Kzinti attacked a lot of targets, but only managed to recapture planet 1001, retreating from planets 1105, 1504, and 1506. They did conduct a significant attrition war, trading a lot of FFs and fighters for a lot of bigger Coalition ships.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Feds attacked and were repulsed from planets 2106, 2306, and 2610; they also killed a bunch of province raiders.
On the Fed/Rom front, the Feds attacked and were repulsed from planets 3005, 3210, and 3509. They killed a few province raiders as well.
In Gorn space, the Gorn attacked and were repulsed from planet 4705, BATS 4010, and killed a few province raiders.
There was a lot of ship death:
LYR: TGP+SP, 3DWE, DW, 2SC, 2FF
KLI: 2D7C, D5, 2F5W, F5L, 2F5, 4E4
ROM: KE, 3SP, (WE), SK, SEH, K4
ZIN: CM, DD, 2FKE, 9FF
HYD: 3CU
FED: 2NCL, 7FF
GRN: HD, DD
That's 29 Coalition and 27 Alliance dead, for a turn total of 56 dead ships, which might be a new high water mark.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, October 08, 2018 - 08:13 pm: Edit |
While I am very happy with the number and size of ships I got to kill the dice were very much against me the entire turn.
I had to burn through a lot of fighters a lot sooner than I had hoped, and also had to accept only getting a single ship kill for my damage, rather than a ship kill and a cripple or 2.
Overall T18 saw a LOT of combat for very little change.

AT18
The turn is over!
In Hydran space, the main Hydran fleet is in 0316, and there is a smaller, but still significant fleet holding supply open in 0118. They also have a couple off map reserves, both about 8 ships.
In Kzinti space, there are big fleets on the Capital and SB 1704, a modest fleet on planet 1001, a few ships on 1802, and then two small, mostly FF reserves off map.
On the Fed/Klingon front, there are modest fleets at 2403 and 2505; giant fleets at 2606 and SB 2808, 8 ship picket forces at 2603, 2705, 2905; a middle sized fleet at the Capital along with 4 reserves, totaling about 33 ships in the 4 reserves total (and about 65 total ships i the Capital).
On the Fed/Rom front, a large fleet at SB 3008, a smaller, but still significant fleet at SB 3604, a few small groups at various NE BATS locations.
On the Gorn front, there is a significant fleet at SB 4206, a bunch of ships spread out at the NE planets and BATS that they still hold, and then a very significant fleet and two 10 ship reserves at the Shipyard hex.
I'll post a map at some point soon.

A few turns in to 75% exhaustion and the Coalition treasuries continue to grow !!
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 - 02:21 am: Edit |
Well the Klingons and Romulans are shaving a couple of Ep's of their build schedules by downgrading ships to 2.5 Ep Frigates...
…..but I would guess captured territory is supporting their economies enough and at the moment very few Ep's are being spent on repairs?
A dozen or so more cripples per nation might start reversing that increase?
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 - 09:07 am: Edit |
The Lyrans are losing money in the long run!
Well, to be fair, the Coalition has a *lot* of captured territory, they aren't taking a lot of cripples, due to not attacking anything significant for, well, a long time. And they are generating a lot of income from salvage.
I mean, yeah, if the Alliance stopped directing and just started dropping damage, the Coalition would spend more on repairs, and get less from Salvage. But they also wouldn't be losing ships, and wouldn't feel the need to overbuild FFs every turn (due to not losing as many ships), so I suspect it would be about a wash [*]. And then the Alliance would rapidly fall behind in the super important hull count calculations.
[*] If/when the Coalition finally gets around to earnestly attacking Alliance hard points, like the Fed or Gorn Capitals, the Alliance can cause very significant numbers of cripples that will cost a lot. But that requires the Coalition to go on a serious offensive. Which they keep finding it very difficult to set up.
On the upside for the Alliance this turn, the Hydrans have suddenly become a very significant issue--they main Hydran force (about 110 SEQ) is on the map, another Hydran force (about 50 SEQ) is poised to keep supply open by the Old Colonies, there are a couple of off map reserves to continue helping keep supply open. Assuming the Hydrans manage to keep their main fleet in supply this turn (which is not completely certain an outcome, but I'm having trouble figuring out a way to cut them off successfully), they will start AT19 with 110 SEQs of Hydrans in range of both the held Capital in 0617 and the Lyran SB in 0411, and the Coalition don't really have enough ships in the theatre to successfully defend *both*, especially given that the Lyrans just started building a BATS over the Hydran Homeworld.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 - 09:35 am: Edit |
Like, from a strategic standpoint, as of the start of CT19:
-The Hydrans have become a significant problem, which might require pulling a lot of extra ships to Hydran space.
-The Kzinti are mostly a wash. We keep trading the same planets over and over again, they aren't really threatening anything important, I'm unlikely to hit their Capital any time soon as long as they keep a big fleet there.
-The Fed/Klingon front sees the Klingons gaining ground and supply points in range of the Capital, but the Feds continue full production, have a giant fleet, and I don't think I can actually get into their Capital hex real soon.
-The Fed/Rom front is about the same as the Klingon Front. I think the Feds can pin any attempt to get to the Capital that the Romulans can mount.
-The Gorn front is improving for the Romulans; the Gorn aren't really threatening the Romulans, but the Romulans can't really threaten to take the Shipyard yet.
The Coalition have a lot of money and a lot of ships, but the Alliance still have a robust ship building economy, ad the Feds are churning out ships like crazy. And the Hydrans are becoming problematic. The Tholians will become an issue in a few turns. I think I'm still in the driver's seat, but things are much less good for me than they could be in general.

CT19
Moves are under way!
In Hydran space, the Coalition are trying to put the main Hydran force out of supply, so it can't kill the Lyran SB in 0411 (or the second BATS being put up in 0617). They have pinned the main Hydran fleet in 0316, the back up Hydran fleet in 0217, and sent a few ships to 0117, which if all goes well, will result in the main Hydran fleet ending the turn out of supply. If things don't go well (and there are a couple Hydran reserves off map that can help make things not go well), it won't.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition have hit planet 1001 and sent a pinning fleet to 1704. Not much else has happened.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the B10 fleet has moved to major planet 2708. A million ships can react on.
On the Fed/Rom front, they have just moved some ships to attack lightly defended BATS 3203.
On the Gorn front, the Romulans have just sent 3 dozen ships to go attack lightly defended minor planet 4702.
Moves continue.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, October 13, 2018 - 09:10 am: Edit |
CT19
Movement is done and combat is starting!
In Hydran space, there is a giant likely short fight in 0316, 100+ SEQ per side, but the Hydrans have zero incentive to fight longer than necessary here, especially as they might end the turn out of supply (they do have the Supply TG with them). In 0217 is the key fight in the theatre, where about 50 Klingons (not real impressive force, about half FFs and most of the rest weak carriers) are fighting 60 Hydrans (both reserves showed up), of which over half are FF hulls. The Klingons have an EW edge. The Hydrans can have a not insignificant compot advantage if they want to put cruisers and BTs on the line. If the Hydrans hold the hex, they keep the main fleet in supply at the end of the turn. If they retreat, the Klingons cut the main Hydran out of supply. The main Hydran fleet in 0316 does have the Supply TG, so even if they start out of supply, they can still probably send 20 ships to go attack Lyran SB 0411, and even if they are out of supply, they can probably attack 0617 (after being put back in supply). So all very dicey in that theatre.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition are fighting a smaller Kzinti fleet over planet 1001, a handful of ships in 1802, and a pinned force and a couple weak reserves over SB 1704 (the Coalition will win the first two fights, and probably will retreat from the SB after an approach...)
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons have about 30 ships fighting 16 Feds over devastated planet 2403; about 60 ships fighting about 30 ships over undevastated planet 2505 (the Feds have 2PDUs and sent a bunch of reserve ships here); about 90 ships led by the B10 attacking undevastated major planet 2708, defended by 4PDU and about 80 Fed ships.
On the Fed/Rom front, the Coalition have 17 ships attacking BATS 3203, defended by 17 Feds (a reserve showed up). The Coalition probably don't win this fight. There is also clearly a pinning action over SB 3604, an attack on BATS 3804 with about a dozen Roms vs a handful of Feds, and a small group of ships recapturing planet 3706.
In Gorn space, the Romulans sent about 30 ships to each planets 4702 and 4903; the Gorn sent a reserve to each planet, so they have about 20 ships at each planet (along with the 2PDUs).
There are 13 total combat hexes; 4 of them see the Coalition probably capturing (or at least devastating) previously untouched planets. The one important fight in Hydran space will be exciting.
The Coalition are currently holding the vast majority of Fed space; there are only 7 Fed provinces at press time that are not captured (mostly) or disrupted (a few). They still control the core of Fed space (including all three SBs adjacent to the Capital) and all of Fed space is connected in the same grid, but their economy will be pretty low in the coming turn.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 14, 2018 - 09:46 am: Edit |
CT19
Combat is underway!
In Hydran space, in 0316, there was a titanic clash of two 100+ ship fleets that saw each side lose an FF and some fighters, and then the Lyrans retreated back to planet 0416. It remains to be seen where the Hydrans end up.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition have recaptured planet 1802 (killing an FF in the process) and are fighting over planet 1001, where they will certainly force the Kzinti back.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons are attacking major planet 2708, having mauled 4PDUs off the planet on the first round (probably losing a D6S in return), are left at -24 points, and aren't retreating.
In Gorn space, the Romualns have mauled 2PDUs off of planet 4903, probably losing an SP in return. Romulans intend on holding the planet.
Combat continues.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, October 14, 2018 - 08:11 pm: Edit |
CT19
Combat in Hydran space was vastly more anti-climactic than I envisioned. The Hydrans in 0217 (upon whom the supply of the main Hydran fleet hinged) just fought a single round, killing an F5E after I dropped damage, retreated onto a small group of Klingons in 0117, killed an E4 in a fighting retreat, and fell off map. The main Hydran fleet is now in 0216, out of supply. It is only down 15 fighters (of a metric million in the fleet), and has the Supply Tug, so it isn't completely hopeless, but much less problematic than could be. The Hydran fleet fighting in 0217 could have put a couple BTs, an LGE, and some various cruisers on the line, had a significant compot, and made a fight for it, but Jason opted not.
So far this turn, in 7 combat rolls, the Coalition continue to outroll the Alliance significantly. Coalition have rolled a very average 3.57 to the Alliance's 2.28, and the Coalition have rolled up vs the Alliance in the majority of fights.

CT19
Combat is over!
In Hydran space, the main Hydran fleet (in 0216 currently) is cut out of supply; there are 50+ ships off map.
In Kzinti space, the Coalition recaptured planet 1001, 1802, and a lot of Kzinti provinces.
On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons recaptured 2403, captured anew 2505 and 2708.
On the Fed/Rom front, the Coalition killed BATS 3203 (in a fight that went badly for them, getting a bunch of ships crippled and losing a KR in pursuit) and BATS 3804.
In Gorn space, the Romulans captured planets 4702 and 4903.
Ships Killed:
-LYR: DWE, 2FF
-KLI: D6M, D6S, 2D5, F5L, F5E, 2E4
-ROM: FHF, 2SP, SEE, (KR)
-ZIN: MSC, 2FF
-HYD: CU
-FED: 2NCL, DWA
-GRN: CL
The Alliance also lost 2 Fed BATS, 6 Fed PDUs, and 4 Gorn PDUs.
The Coalition continued to roll better than the Alliance, although they picked up a bit at the end. Over 16 rounds of combat, the Coalition averaged 3.56 (i.e. exactly average), the Alliance averaged 3, so a little below average.
Retrogrades underway.
By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - 04:33 am: Edit |
And we have gone straight in to T19A.
The Feds built a DNG quite a few NCL and a HEAP of FF. The Kzinti built a CVS and a HEAP of FF, the Hydrans built a HEAP of CU, and the Gorn built pretty much their schedule.
3 Raids are happening in Lyran space, and 2 Raids in Romulan space.
I havent worked out all of the battles yet, but we could be in for a new high. Peter has pickets literally scattered around the map, plus he has ships on all the various stolen planets which can expect to be hit.
The only big decision is what to do with the Hydrans. Most likely they will just open up Supply again, and keep the Coalition on their toes.

I'll post an end of CT19 map some time today.
By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - 11:53 am: Edit |
At the end of T19 Coalition fleet disposition:
-In Hydran space, there are a ton of ships in 0617, about 30 ships pulled back to SB 0411, a couple ships are holding planet 0416, and there are numerous stacks of 2 or 3 ships places cutting off Hydran supply (along with all the province garrisons). There is a reasonably good Klingon reserve in 0617.
-In Kzinti space, there is a giant fleet in 1407, a big fleet at 1504, a big fleet at 1105, a reasonable fleet at 1001, lots of province raiders, and a few ships at planet 1802. There are a Lyran and Klingon reserve at planet 1105, both are reasonably good. There is a solid Lyran reserve in 1407 as well.
-On the Fed/Klingon front, there are fleets on planets 2403, 2505, 2306, 2106 (all significant but not huge) and a giant fleet led by the B10 in 2509. Numerous other planets held by small garrisons, and a lot of province garrisons as well. There is a solid Lyran reserve in 1910 and a ok Klingon reserve in 2509.
-On the Fed/Romulan front, there is a giant Klingon fleet at 3210, a giant Romulan fleet at 3509, and a Klingon and Romulan reserve (both moderate, but numerous) at each planet as well. Lots of raiders and a are other planets held by small garrisons. There are Romulan raiders all the way up to the xx03 line.
-On the Gorn front, there is a giant fleet split between 4309 and 4310, including a Romulan reserve; a giant fleet on planet 4705, also with a reserve, and numerous raiders and planet garrisons on 4702 and 4903.
As noted, there are Coalition ships all over the place, so the Alliance can probably pull off 40+ battles this turn.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - 05:10 pm: Edit |
Well, the Alliance is steadily losing territory, but they have reasonably robust economies, I haven't touched the Fed capital yet (and have only managed to devastate a single minor planet in one of the non-shipyard Gorn capital hexes), and I don't think I can get in there real soon, as they have a *lot* of ships. And the Tholians show up soon, which will suck another 50 some odd ships away from Earth.
So I think the Coalition is still doing just fine, but I don't know that they are going to dramatically win any time soon.

AT19
Fed economy saw the Feds generating about 113 EPs, having about 124 EPs to spend. They built DNG, 5NCL, 24FFs, and spent 6EPs on repairs, ending with not much in treasury.
The Kzinti generated about 42EP, had about 55EP to spend. They built CV, MEC, 2CM, 3FFK, 5FF, and spend about 5EPs on repairs. They might have also built an FF on SB 1704, as it is it's own partial grid currently.
The Hydrans generated about 34EP, and had about 43EP to spend. They built 12FFs and spent 2EPs on repairs, also converting 3CWs into NECs.
The Gorn generated about 71EPs, had about 165EPs (?!?) to spend (they have a *lot* in treasury). They built CC, MCC, 3HD, 4BD, 2DD. They end up with 100+ in treasury.
