The Tholians have, like, 70+ ships at this point, including a dozen mostly terrifying Neo Tholian ships. I can't imagine that attacking the Tholian Capital on T23+ is a good idea.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 - 08:00 pm: Edit

The Neos showed up already? Checking... turn 20!

YIKES.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 11:44 am: Edit

Its just a case of what to do with them.

I can certainly smash all the BATS and planets, but do I go for the SB Cluster...

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 12:51 pm: Edit

It would depend on what he has over there to defend. Webcasters really help against SBs; one WC armed ship can halve the offensive compot of the SB as well as its attrition units.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 03:45 pm: Edit

I need to read up on Tholians.

My only experience was the gsme where you attacked thrm on T10 and totally wiped them out in a single Turn.

But I recall a few rule clarifications coming from that game.

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 03:47 pm: Edit

That was me. Twice now.

Biggest clarification: the basic rules restricting Tholians leaving their territory are NOT changed even though they lose everything. In other words, they fight to the death, except for one good expeditionary fleet which will end up in Fed territory no doubt.

Expect to lose some 70-80 ships attacking Tholia, even as early as C10-13. Don't bother attacking them once the Neos arrive. Just ride them out.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 05:27 pm: Edit

Ted, Im pretty sure they lost about 10 or 15 ships and had a few dozen cripples.

Certainly wasnt anything like 70 or 80 ships.

By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 06:26 pm: Edit

Sorry. Typo. I think I lost closer to 40-50 SEQ. But dice were not good for me.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 - 07:18 pm: Edit

Yeah, the Tholians are going to be kind of terrifying.

On the upside, only a dozen of them can move further than 2 hexes away from Tholian space ever. On the downside, I have 2 SB exactly 2 hexes away from the Tholians.

The whole Tholian fleet can attack major planet 2518, BATS 2519, BATS 3319, and then a pair of co-located SB in 2916. The Expeditionary fleet (12 ships) can go reach 2 other SBs, another couple BATS, and another minor planet. And then 2 more captured planets. I'm concerned. I should have considered this when I built those two SBs, and didn't realize that web casters could cut the compot of SBs in half until very recently. Yikes.

Never thought I would say this but I wish the Seltorians were here. They could help......

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, November 29, 2018 - 04:37 pm: Edit

They show up on T28, and make the Tholians go home! I just need to avoid getting killed till then!

AT20

The turn is finished!

In Hydran space, the Hydrans have a significant force on planet 0416 (most of their fleet), a reasonable force in hex 0117, and a couple small reserves off map.

In Kzinti space, the Kzinti have plenty of ships at the Capital, a significant fleet at SB 1704, a couple solid reserves off map, and a few ships here and there on planets.

In Fed space, the Feds have a ton of ships in the Capital, reasonable fleets in 2606, 2705, 3005, and 3604; they have a couple good reserves in the Capital and a couple good reserves off map, and various small groups of ships spread around the map.

The Gorn have a bunch of ships at the shipyard, a bulky but not particularly dense fleet at capital 4503, a solid fleet at SB 4206, a dozen ships at 5004, and 2 strong reserves at the shipyard.

12 EP seem to be misssing...
Are the Far Stars nobles hoarding resources in preparation of a new Lyran civil war?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, December 05, 2018 - 11:03 am: Edit

Hmm. That seems weird. Yeah. I think I wonked that up somewhere. I think they start at 24 off map, have +8 provinces for a total of 40, which at .75 is 30. So yeah, the Lyrans are 12EPs richer.

Jason will be pleased :-/

*Why didn't you do a PFT conversion?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, December 05, 2018 - 11:46 am: Edit

'Cause I did a CL>BC conversion instead, which may or may not have been a good idea, but still was what happened :-)

Ah, ok.

Hooray for the Coalition having even more money !!

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Wednesday, December 05, 2018 - 06:55 pm: Edit

CT21

Moves are underway!

In Kzinti space, the Coalition seem to be attacking everything that the capital fleet can't react to (1001, 1504, 1802). They did pin everything at SB 1704, however.

In Fed Space, so far, the Coalition have sent a huge fleet to planet 2705 (defended by a significant force), and the Romulans have sent a ton of ships to SB 3604.

No movement in Hydran or Gorn space yet.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, December 06, 2018 - 07:39 am: Edit

CT21

Moves continue!

In Fed space, the Klingons are mostly avoiding most of the Fed fleet, attacking a bunch of pre-devastated planets; the biggest fight with actual opposition in planet 2705, seeing about 80 Coalition vs about 50 Feds (and 2PDU on a planet). On the Romulan side of things, the Romulans are attacking SB 3604 with about 80 ships vs about 40 Fed ships (and a SB).

In Gorn space, the Romulans have similarly avoided most of the Gorn fleet, and are attacking a planet and a few BATS over on the east edge of Gorn space.

In Hydran space, there is a big fight over planet 0416, with a 150+ SEQ of Coalition vs about 140 SEQ of Hydrans.

A few ships left to move.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Thursday, December 06, 2018 - 07:32 pm: Edit

CT21

Moves are done! Waiting on reserves.

Fights are in:
-0416: A lot of Hydrans vs a lot of Coalition; fairly even, Coalition have more ships and more EW; Hydrans have tons of fighters.

-1001, 1504: Big coalition fleets vs undefended, devastated planets. Reserves might show up, but probably not.

-1704: Equivalent sized Coalition and Kzinti fleets over a SB. Likely a pinning action.

-1802: Big coalition vs 4 Kzinti and devastated planet.

-2509, 2610, 3210: Big coalition fleets vs devastated planets.

-2705: Big coalition fleet (about 80 ships?) vs half as many Feds and 2PDU.

-3306, 3706: A couple Romulans vs a devastated planet. A reserve could save 3306.

-3604: About 80 Romulans vs about 40 Feds and a SB.

-4903: 2 Romulans vs a devastated planet. A reserve could save this.

-5004: About 30 Romulans vs a dozen Gorn and 2PDU. 2 reserves can reach here.

-5105: About 25 Romulans vs BATS (I mistakenly thought that the reserves could reach here; they can not...)

-5203: About 15 Romulans vs 4 Gorn and a BATS.

16 combat hexes; reserves can foil a few hexes; 0416 might go a while; 3604 might be a bloody fight vs a SB. Reserves still to move.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, December 07, 2018 - 10:03 am: Edit

CT21

Reserves have moved.

All Kzinti reserves have gone to 1704 (which will likely make the 1 round approach and run even faster!); all Hydran reserves have gone to 0416 (the only fight there is in Hydran space; the reserves are mostly CUs, and are unlikely to make any difference at all); all four Fed reserves have gone to 2705, which will likely make a difference--the Feds now probably have about as many ships as the Klingons there; both Gor reserves went to 5004, which also means I probably don't take the planet this turn.

Combat has started in Hydran space.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, December 08, 2018 - 08:09 am: Edit

CT21

Combat is underway!

In Hydran space, the Hydrans fought over planet 0416 for 4 rounds, trading 4CU and a lot of fighters for a BC, DWS, DWE, and half a flotilla of PFs (the first PFs used in combat so far), and then the Hydrans abandoned the planet in the face of overwhelming EW and compot advantage. The Coalition currently hold planet 0416; the Hydrans have a lot of ships currently, but probably need to upgrade their escort fleet, so they can field stronger CV groups for longer. The Hydran fleet is now in 0316, and in supply, but lack a retrograde point on the map.

In Kzinti space, not much happened. The Coalition have recaptured numerous planets and provinces, fought an approach in front of SB 1704 (where both sides lost an FF), and attacked, redevastated, and then immediately retreated from planet 1802, as it was mostly an operation to get, like, a dozen cripples from NW Fed space to a Coalition repair facility.

There is currently a big fight over Fed planet 2705, where the Feds are tenaciously fighting an approach to keep the Klingons away from the planet as long as they can.

By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, December 08, 2018 - 02:12 pm: Edit

Have either side used a FRD to get a temporary Retrograde point so far?

The Hydrans are perhaps one race which should have a Tug and FRD always in the Old Colonies - so it can move 3 hexes onto the map and if placed well - the Hydrans should be able to outpin the Coalition to keep it safe (or group it with several Aux ships to allow a reasonable slow retreat).
