In the west, the Klingons destroyed the Duke's Starbase in 1304. The only success the coalition had in the northwest part of the map.

The Kzintis burned through there free drone bombardment defending the Duke's and Count's Starbases.

The Count's Starbase is undamaged the Kzintis took the damage on fighters and ships.

Zimdars was stripped of it's PDUs, but is undevastated from the weak Lyran attack (15 ships total?). The better of the two Kzinti reserves showed up here.

In 1504 The Federation reserve showed up and chased the Klingons away.

Down south the Vudar province holders did well in SSC. One was crippled and retreated, the other was forced to retreat. The Klingons declined to approach the Vudar planet and fled.

The Hydrans lost a HN in 0212, a CU and POL in 0418. In 0117 they traded a HR for a STT. Then both sides retreated. The Hydrans ended the turn with no ships on the map. They have currently have 1 on map province (0118), but no ships.

Op moves are underway for the Alliance half of the Fall of Y172. I will post the econ stuff tomorrow and try to get Bill to post his version of the coalition half of the Fall of Y172.

The Alliance launced 5 Raids total, 3 standard raids, 1 in Klingon space, 1 in Gorn Space, and 1 in Romulan space, 1 Blockade Run to the WYN, and 1 E&S mission. Raids resulted in a disrupted Klingon province, a dead SEH in Gorn space, and a Romulan retreat in Romulan space. The blockade run took 10 EPs from the Kzinti WYNCOVIA account and returned them to Kzinti. The E&S mission stole a crippled Lyran BC, but resulted in a wounded Kzinti Prime Team.

The Alliance has ended their half of the fall of Y172.

The Hydrans have a couple of ships on map. The majority of their fleet is off map, but they have 2 full and solid reserves there.

The Vudar have a full reserve in the Hole with the majority of their fleet on their capital.

The ISC are probably in the best position of any empire at the moment. Almost all of their space is free from enemy attack. (A handful of provinces could be raided, but it is unlikely). They are mostly forward deployed to hold on to gains in Southeastern Romulan Space, and Southern and Western Paravian space. Three Reserves are set up. 1 is a full reserve led by a CVA to cover Paravian space. The other two are medium sized reserves, weak in total compot, but have needed gunline ships or attrition units to cover the Romulan border.

The Gorns have 2 solid reserves. The slightly weaker on is on the neutral planet between Gorn and Paravian space. The heavier one with a CVS and CVP carrier group is on the remaining starbase along the Romulan border.

The Feds have 4 reserves. 2 excellent reserves, one on the Klingon and the other on the Romulan border. The stronger of the two remaining reserves is on the Kzinti border where it can reach the Kzinti capital. The weakest of the 4 is on the Gorn border.

The Kzintis have 2 very good reserves off map. One led by a CVA group, the other by a newly built BCV group.

The Kzintis successfully repel a Klingon invasion of their capital.

The Kzintis lost 2xSAD, while the Klingons have 5 ships crippled, 3xAD5, 2xF5E.

The battle of the Kzinti SB in 1102 rages on. Currently on round 8. So far the Carnivons have crippled the SB along with 2xMEC, 2xFKE, FFK, EFF, and SF. The Kzintis in return have killed a CC and crippled 5xCC, CVS, 3xCWE, 2xFFE, 3xCA, 5xCL, 18xFF.

The Kzintis lost 56 fighters, and when SB finally dies a total of 62 fighters.

The Kzintis have retreated behind the crippled SB.

Here's the dead ship count and some econ facts for you to digest. The values include the first two combats of Coalition Turn 9, Spring of Y173.

The first number after the side is the total number of ships, excluding auxiliaries, bases, and non-ship units. The second number is the replacement EP value of all those ships killed for each side. The third number is total replacement EP value of Ships, Auxiliaries, Bases, and Non-Ship units.

No account or allowance is made for those ships which made the depot (they didn't die and will return to combat eventually), or captured ships still on the map. If a captured ship is subsequently killed, it and its' value is added to the first two columns.

This isn't a really good measure as all units that are the same unit nevertheless do not necessarily have the same value, even if they have the same EP cost.

Consider the value of an offmap starbase versus a Klingon starbase over Hydrax.

Are they equal?

How about all those alliance border BATs that die in the early turns versus the Klingon and Lyran ones? Is their value best measured in their EP cost? I say no.

No, it's cool. I get all technical sometimes, my apologies for any offense.

Sometimes when analyzing possibly upcoming battles, I try to enumerate strengths, but it's a hard thing because what's good in one situation might be useful (or even harmful) in another.

One rule of thumb I go by, to some extent, is to value non discount DDs and CLs as if they were the equivalent compot discount ship, assuming you never actually build that DD or CL.

A Lyran CL or DD, for example, I value about the same as a DW or F5. There's some small practical differences obviously, but I wouldn't call a CL as 6 EP, as you never (probably) actually build one, you start with them all for free. So I just fudge it and call it a '4' if I want to total EP losses in a battle.

Bases are usually inflated, ie a Starbase such as 0902 can often be destroyed without inflicting anything like its cost on the enemy, so its value isn't nearly as high as one might inititally assume. Blah blah, I babble too much. I miss the good old days where Michael Calhoon and I would analyze these things to ludicrously exact degrees.

It is one of the reasons that I will ask about what is going on in other games from time to time as I read them. In Kzinti space the the Count's SB was killed in a long fight that saw almost half of the Carnivon fleet crippled and a CC destroyed. The Kzinti burned through almost all of their fighters.

1502 and 1401 remain untouched by Klingon forces as the Kzintis pinned most of the Lyrans and Klingons out of the two hexes. Kzinti reserves went to 1401 and put up a stiff resistance making the Klingons reexamine their options. (Both C8V groups had their escorts crippled, with little other heavy ship support in the hex.) The Fed Reserve went to 1502 where it outnumbered and outgunned the Klingon fleet there. The remaining fight was in 1502 where a combined Kzinti and Fed fleet chased the Klingons off.

In theater the Kzintis lost a DD, FFK, FF, EFF, POL, and 2xSAD. The Klingons lost a D6D and 3xF5.

In Hydran space the Klingons and Lyrans were able to kill a HN in Lyran space, a POL holding a province open for the Hydrans, and 2xLN that were directed when reserves showed up to save Hydran POLs holding those provinces. The Lyrans lost a CWS and DWS.

In Vudar space the Klingons fight one approach battle over Vudar then retreat. They kill a DD there and 2xFF that were holding Klingon provinces.

So far FED space 2 BATS(6) have died and another was saved by a Fed Reserve. The Klingons have lost a F5L, F5, and E4. Also they have crippled a D5, 2xF5, and E4 so far. They are 2 more fights over Fed BATS along the Klingon border and one over the NZ planet in 2214.

Combat in the East hasn't begun yet.

Combat in the east was not near as rough as it was in the west. The Romulans captured 3415. The Feds lost BATS in 3414 and 3812. The Romulans captured an ISC FF in 4711 after SSC. The Paravians got hammered in getting some ships out of supply back into Supply as they lost a DWS, CWE, 2xFF and DWE.
