6 more turns to go. if we can keep up 32 Coalition for 11 Alliance each turn I may be in with a chance !!

Actually, no, I still lose on points big time.

Oooh lets hope perforance anxiety doesnt set in !

I reckon everything would be peachy if the Feds got the DDX 1 year earlier :)

AT28

The turn is over!

The Hydrans pulled most of their ships back to 0416, except for some FFs in southern Lyran space, and show ships by the Old Colonies. They have 2 moderate reserves off map, both of which involve an X ship.

The Kzinti currently control most of their space. They have significant fleets on planets 1001 and 1105 (and the Capital). They have 2 middle sized reserves off map, one of which involves an X ship.

The Fed have a lot of ships in significant fleets all over the map currently. The ones of note include one at planet 2306, a giant fleet at 2811, and about 20 ships sitting on planet 3515 on the Romulan border. They have 3 big reserves in the Capital, and a solid reserve at SB 2907 (to help prevent any Romulan shenanagins in the north of Fed space).

The Gorn have most of their ships in and around their Homeworld. They have 2 modest reserves in 4402.

The Tholians have retreated back to their Homeworld, never to be heard from again.

Holy busted border bases. Bat,am!

Whem did SB 15-0 get destroyed?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Friday, August 02, 2019 - 11:47 am: Edit

SB 1509? Like, on T10 or something. I miscounted ships that could reach it, and didn't have enough to pin things away or save it, so it died cheap. Those things. They happen :-)

So the Romulans are scraping the bottom of the barrel, cash wise, but mostly 'cause I forgot that I could get an SCS this turn, and used all my FFF on T28 to get a pile of PFs. So it'll break even eventually, but I did spend 12EP on fighters for the PHX SCS this turn, requiring the Romulans to replace a lot of builds with SEH this turn, and use XTPs to build a couple non x-ships and do repairs.

The Klingons still have a healthy EP balance, and will probably start paying back all that money they borrowed earlier in the war.

The Lyrans are out of EPs, but have plenty of XTPs saved up; it turns out that the Lyran production schedule makes it difficult to build a lot of CCXs, as you can't replace a BC build with a CA build. But at least in y183, they start making CWX, so that ceases to be an issue. The Lyrans also finished their second SBX in 1407.

On to raids!

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Friday, August 02, 2019 - 09:14 pm: Edit

T29C moves have started. Peter continues to carefully select targets as opposed to the Alliance who just go for everything in sight.

Be bold Peter !!

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, August 03, 2019 - 07:51 am: Edit

CT29

As noted, moves are well underway.

In Hydran space, the Coalition seem to be avoiding the main Hydran fleet at 0416, and are attacking ships keeping supply open to the Old Colonies, and then the ships in southern Hydran space.

In Kzinti space, the Coalition are attacking planets 1001, 1105, and 1802 so far.

On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons have hit planet 2306 with a huge force, facing a slightly smaller force; moved the giant B10 fleet around the long way to planet 2610; the Lyrans in the south of Klingon space have attacked planet 2715; Klingons went to go take back planet 3515 on the edge of Romulan space.

The Romulans in Fed space have attacked planets 3210 and 3306 so far.

In Gorn space, the Romulans have attacked planets 4903 and 5004 so far.

Lots of ships left to move.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, August 03, 2019 - 09:54 am: Edit

CT29

As moves finish up (I'm done with op moves; waiting for reserves), I forgot to mention the somewhat wacky Raid phase.

So for most of the game, the Raid phase has been 99% "Raider goes to empty hex. A generic POL defends.", on the grounds that after one or two FFs accidentally got killed in the first couple turns, mostly due to not paying attention to the fact that we were using the Raid rules, all province raiders have been doubled/trippled up, so attacking them generally seems counter productive.

This turn, the Alliance were being bold and had a couple places where there were small ships waiting to get hit by Coalition DNLs!

In one hex on the Hydran front, a Lyran DNL+5CPX (i.e. 21 compot...) raided a pair of CUs. Due to the specifics of the SSC rules, the overwhelming DNL compot still only resulted in a +4 on the chart, so when the Lyrans rolled a 3, nothing happened but the CUs retreated. Wah wah.

In another, things went a little better for the Klingon C5 vs a FFB and FF. At least the FF got crippled and they fled the captured neutral planet in 2214.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Saturday, August 03, 2019 - 10:41 am: Edit

You could have used noremal combat but the Hydran would have cost you a PF.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Saturday, August 03, 2019 - 10:31 pm: Edit

CT29

Moves are done and combat is underway.

In Hydran space, 2 fights; one is a battle line vs some FFs; the other are two moderately large forces in 0118. The Hydrans sent both reserves, but the Coalition have more ships and bigger guns.

In Kzinti space, 3 fights; planet 1001, where the Kzinti sent both reserves have have a not insignificant edge (about 40 Lyrans vs about 60 Kzinti); 1105 where the Lyrans have a significant edge over the Kzinti; 1802 where the Klingons have a significant edge over the Kzinti.

On the Fed/Klingon front, 5 fights; planet 2306 is numerically pretty even (about 100 ships on each side), but the Klingons have bigger guns; planet 2610 where the Klingons have the B10 and X ships; the Feds sent all their reserves, but the Klingons are still advantaged; 2314 where a handful of ships are mugging a couple FFs; planet 2715 where the Lyrans are recapturing the planet from 8 Feds; planet 3515, where the Klingons are pushing a smaller Fed force back from the neutral planet on the Romulan border.

On the Fed/Romulan front, 2 fights; big Romulan forces against smaller Fed forces over planets 3210 and 3306. The Romulans will probably capture both.

In Gorn space, only 2 fights; both big Romulan forces attacking 4 Gorn ships over planets 4903 and 5004. The Romulans will take both planets.

14 battle hexes, nothing real bold. The Coalition are clearly, at this point, just trying to maintain the status quo.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, August 04, 2019 - 09:49 am: Edit

CT29

Combat is well under way.

In Hydran space, the Coalition are probably going to cut the main Hydran force out of supply from the off map; it doesn't matter a huge deal, as they are still on the planet in 0416, but it will, uh, not actually have any effect at all, really. If the Hydrans had sent reserves to the fight in southern Lyran space, those ships would have been limited to 3 moves. But the reserves didn't go there. So cutting 0416 off from the Old Colonies doesn't really do anything, assuming that the Hydrans can reconnect the grid (pro tip: they can).

In Kzinti space, the Klingons probably recapture planet 1802; the Kzinti probably keep 1001 (as the force there is bigger and scarier than I had envisioned).

On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons killed a crippled FF and recaptured planet 2214, the Lyrans captured planet 2715; the Klingons chased Feds off of planet 3415, capturing it again. It turns out I was deluded when I said that the Klingons had bigger guns than the Feds at planet 2306. On the first round, the Klingons had a compot of 121/4 (a bunch of X ships), the Feds had a line of:

DNH(adm)(flag,form), 4xCX, [CVA+NHV+3xHDWE+DWA+FF], CC, 10xIFF, 2xE2C, NSC - 149/6

Gadzooks. I gotta see what happens on R1, but it is likely the Klingons will be repulsed from planet 2306.

In Gorn space, the Romulans recaptured planets 4903 and 5004. Nothing much exciting happened.

Battles rage on!

"I maul an FX, bug zap 4 fighters, and drop 34"

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, August 04, 2019 - 12:42 pm: Edit

Yeah, pretty much that. We were BIR6 (3+3, no mod), we both rolled a 5. He did 52 damage. He whacked (via x-mauling) a DX, killed all my attrition units, and I still had to take a cripple.

Yowch.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Sunday, August 04, 2019 - 07:43 pm: Edit

CT29

Combat is over!

In Hydran space, I cut the Hydran fleet in 0416 off from main supply, and killed a province raider. Not a lot actually happened, and I traded a DX for an LNX, which probably wasn't a good trade. And the supply issue is minimal, at best, for the Hydrans (the lose a marginal amount of income and XTP).

In Kzinti space, the Coalition took back planets 1105 and 1802; the Kzinti held on to 1001.

On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons took back planets 2306, 2610, 2214, 3415; the Lyrans now live at planet 2715. The Fed ended up with about 75 ships within 6 hexes of planet 1910, which is a problem for the Klingons.

On the Fed/Romulan front, the Romulans took back planets 3210 and 3306 and a lot of space. There are about 15 ships stranded out of supply and without fighters in hex 3414.

In Gorn space, the Romulans took back planets 4903 and 5004 and a lot of space.

Ships killed:
-LYR: CW, FF
-KLI: 5DX, D7C, D5, E4
-ROM: SP

-ZIN: 3FF
-HYD: LNX, CU
-FED: 3CX, DDX, CC, 4FF
-GRN: BD, DD

So 11 Coalition, 16 Alliance. And a lot of X ships.

Dice saw the Coalition averaging a crazy 4.3 with the Alliance averaging the only slightly less crazy 4.09.

The Alliance are very much pushing the Coalition back currently. The Coalition now need to worry about SB 0404 as well as numerous targets in the NW of Klingon space and neighboring Lyran space; the Feds can easily take and planet ships on planet 1910, unless the Klingons pull back to protect it. Things are becoming unwieldy for the Coalition, quickly.

By Paul Howard (Raven) on Monday, August 05, 2019 - 05:16 am: Edit

First time for a while more Alliance ships died!

What happened to the now surplus Coalition ships from Tholian front?

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, August 05, 2019 - 08:12 am: Edit

They are still mostly sitting on the SBs in 2916; the Feds have 80+ ships in range of 2916 (on planet 2811) and enough ships in the Capital to pin the Klingons between 2811 and 2916.

Like, those ships mostly did things on my turn, but they wandered back to 2916 during retrogrades. As 2916 is now more or less the front line.

By Peter Bakija (Bakija) on Monday, August 05, 2019 - 08:28 am: Edit

CT29

The turn is over!

In Hydran space, the Coalition have a big fleet in 0617, the Lyrans have a solid fleet at SB 0411, the Klingons have a solid reserve at BATS 1214.

In Kzinti space, the Lyrans pulled a big fleet back to SB 0404 (as it was the only place to retrograde to after they were repelled from planet 1001), have a battle line at planet 1105, there are big fleets in 1407 and 1506. There is a solid Lyran reserve in 1407 and a solid Klingon reserve in 1506.

On the Fed/Klingon front, the Klingons pulled about 80 ships back to planet 1910, they have a giant fleet on planet 2812, a big fleet at SB park 2916. There is a Klingon X ship reserve at BATS 1811 and a solid reserve at planet 3612 on the Romulan side of things.

On the Fed/Romulan front, the Romulans have a big fleet at planet 3509, a smaller, but still big fleet at planet 3706, and solid reserves at SB 3518 and SB 3711. There are also Romulans swarming all over NE Fed space.

In Gorn space, the Romulans have a big fleet at planet 4705, a slightly smaller and jankier fleet at planet 4309, and an ok reserve at planet 4309. There are also ships swarming all over Gorn space.

Peter: My FEDS reply to your GVX issue is in the Feds SITs report topic.

By Jason Langdon (Jaspar) on Monday, August 05, 2019 - 05:24 pm: Edit

GVX just became so expensive I dont imagine anyone would ever buy it.

22 XTP plus 18 for fighters.

You can buy an NHV for half that and its 4 Compot behind. From EP not XTP.
