Well, the Blood bath continued.
Lots of dead Coalition ships (plus the SB and MB) - not so many dead Alliance ships - although Alliance repair bill is a lot higher (partially naturally due to me dying )
Dice though were much fairer
William rolled well initially and then I rolled well (which had the MB assault and big compots on both sides) and then was fairly balanced.
Averages was 3.49 for William and 3,86 for me (51 rolls).
Not sure what happened in one SSC combat though - William didn't kill me. The rest of them he rolled well enough to kill me and I never got anything (best I got was an 8, William got a 10 and 11 - averages was 6.25 for me and 7.125 - alas SSC is brutal if you under roll - and William in 3 of the 8 battles rolled the minimum number to kill me - the last battle a 6 was needed and he got it!).
William probably got underaverage on pursuit (he rolled a couple of 6's but did get a couple of smaller shup number persuits).
Got lucky in some and missed it in others.
Capture rolls - none for me (again) and 2 more for William.
William increases his lead on lucky capture rolls.
I did roll marginally above average on successful cloak rolls (8 of 11 passed) and overall I am up to 64.9% now!
3 more successful cloak rolls needed to get to average....
Coalition lost all but 1 planet in Federation space and supply has been shattered (fortunately tugs will restore that).
About the only success for the Coalition was in True Patriach Space, where Rebel Kzinti forces failed and have been cut off from the Barony - so several carriers are light on fighters.
Some ships are also OOS and will be unable to retrograde (Confederation Fleet) as they was 7 hexes from supply during combat and are now cut off.
The main coup for the Alliance no doubt the death of SB 4216 - which does cut Romulan territory in two, which can only partially be bridged with the supply tug available.
A small number of Romulan ships are therefore out of supply (as is the Lyran and Klingon Expeditionary Fleets).
Lyrans didn't get to try out their new PF's - but Kzinti did get to use some of their Free Drones.
(which wasn't - William rolled a 1!)

This being the end of another even-numbered turn, it's time for another fleet count:
Uncrippled | Crips | Total | |
L | 151 | 47 | 198(+5) |
K | 223 | 149 | 372(-2) |
R | 116 | 39 | 155(-19) |
Coalition | 490(-51) | 235(+40) | 725(-11) |
Z | 52 | 1 | 53(+3) |
H | 50 | 0 | 50(+1) |
F | 235 | 62 | 297(+17) |
G | 71 | 28 | 99(-4) |
Alliance | 408(-36) | 91(+53) | 499(+17) |

Turn C21 op move is well underway. For better or worse, the Feds have succeeded in getting the Romulans to notice their existence, as they are trying to retake both Fed-held planets in Romulan space. Additionally, the Klingons and Romulans appear likely to try to retake the Fed planets near the 6th fleet SB.

Coaliton Turn 21
Lyrans enter PF2 and build a BC, TGA, CW, 2 x PFT, 2 x DW, 4 x FF and a command point.
Repairs are only 25.5 due to a lack of ships on bases!
Klingons for the firsts time under build and enter PF1. They build a D6M, D5V, 2 x AD5, 6 x D5, 5 x D5, 2 x F5S and 3 x E4 plus a Command Point.
A homeless supply line of 2 Lyran ships is set up and 59 Ep's are spent on repairs.
Romulans massively under build and only build a FH, SPH, SPB, 2 x SP, 2 x SK, SKE and a BHE.
The final 2 SN's come out of Mothball and the Homeless support for Klingons increases to 12 (including 2 carriers).
23 Ep's are spent on repairs.

Operational Movement.
Well, the plan to overwhelm the Gorns didn't work - the Gorn counter attack crippled all the Lyrans and the Federation get close to the Romulan capitals - so a hard choice was made.
No Gorn capital assault.
In Gorn space, the large number of Romulans spread out across the North East - attacking 3 BATS and 3 Minor Planets.
Attacks on 4203 (to allow a raiding Romulan force from turn 20 to escape) and a major assault on the battered SB in 4206 does occur though.
In Romulan space - the Romulans counter attacker against the invading Federation - and support the Klingons in South West Federation space.
In Federation space - the Klingons and Romulans link up and attack 3611 and the adjacent two minor planets.
Major assault also take place on Sol and 3008 - and pinning raiding battle takes place on the new Klignon/Federation border from Orion space to 2103.
In true Kzinti space - 4 battles take place.
In Hydran space - no battles occur - as peace talks continue between the Hydrans and Coalition.
Kzinti have 1 reserve pinned, Federations have 2 pinned (and in in Sol, which in theory could leave) and Gorns have 2 reserves available - so lots of choices but not many options
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Friday, May 29, 2020 - 03:23 am: Edit |
Well, a bit surpised on one of the reserves!
Sol is only marginally-re-enforced and 2708 is attempted to be saved.
Both Gorn front reserves end up in 4207 (the Gorn's unpinned part of the Federation Reserve to get better reserves there).
No B10 smashing a SB this turn though - although the other major SB assault, 3008 does look interesting.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Friday, May 29, 2020 - 11:15 am: Edit |
Initial combats done and so far, Coalition have liberated 6 minor planets (only 2 was defended) and 4 Federation FF/FFE's have died.
Coalition have taken more cripples though.
3711 was held by the Federation though (it has recovered from Devastation and things were very close on lines - I probably could have taken it, but keeping to the main plan was more important (4206 is probably safe....probably!!)
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Friday, May 29, 2020 - 03:58 pm: Edit |
Haven't mentioned dice - and I can't believe it, but its probably the worst turn so far.
After 15 rounds - average is 2.33 v 3.8!
In one key battle - dice are just smashing the Romulan fleet (and I have a stack of fighters to use up).
By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Friday, May 29, 2020 - 04:55 pm: Edit |
I can only recommend checking to make sure you are rolling D6s rather than D4s.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Friday, May 29, 2020 - 06:09 pm: Edit |
int dieSides = (lastName == "Howard") ? 6 : 4;
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 03:26 am: Edit |
Well a D5 roll for me is possible...
First 30 rolls.
6 x 1's
7 x 2's
7 x 3's
5 x 4's
5 x 5's
0 x 6's
Average has improved to 2.87 - but William has remained at 3.8.
Williams is definitely rolling a D6 though
1 x 1's
7 x 2's
3 x 3's
9 x 4's
6 x 5's
4 x 6's
Best run so far was 8 wins in a row on the dice for William - I haven't won 2 in a row yet.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 10:46 am: Edit |
Well, I thought the dice couldn't get worse.
In a key battle over 2708 - after 5 rounds, average is 2.4 for me v 4.6 for William.
Why does this constantly happen to me (and being serious)?
2708 should have easily fallen....
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 11:54 am: Edit |
Well, 2708 finally ended
Average ended at 3.25 v 4.625.
2 x D5's and a F5L was self killed (and Federation had a crippled NCL directed on) plus a Lyran FF was Self Killed due to the Auto Kill rule (battle nicely (not!) started with a 1 v 6).
Federation took 10 cripples and Coalition took 19 cripples.
By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 12:10 pm: Edit |
The dice leave me alone because they know I don't care.
You?
Not so much.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, May 30, 2020 - 04:58 pm: Edit |
Richard
To be absolutely honest - I in most games roll average and it doesn't bother me.
Occasionally I roll well, occasionally badly - but across a year I would say 'average'.
However in F&E (and once in a game called Empires in Arms) - the dice just don't like me and I just seem to roll poorly - and enough so that I have kept the bulk of the dice records!
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Sunday, May 31, 2020 - 09:17 am: Edit |
And so combat for Coalition turn 21 ends.
Dice - average of 3.30 v 3.86 - so I improved, but no where near enough to average it out.
Cloaks seems to be 100% NA (out of probably 12 attempts).
Not many pursuits on either side.
Damage (killed)
Lyrans : CW, 2 x FF
Klingons, 2 x D5, F5L, F5S
Romulans : FH, KR, K5, SK, SN, SKE, BHE,
Kzinti - 2 x FF, SF
Federation 3 x NCL, 5 x FF, 2 x FFE and 8 x PDU's
Gorn : - 3 x BATS, HD, 3 x DD
Kzinti lost 1 minor planet
Federation lost 1 major planet plus 4 minor (Major Planet was newly devastated and 2 capital hex minors were also devastated) planets and 3 neutral minor planets
Gorns lost 1 minor planet plus 1 neutral planet
Approximately 40 Federation ships are out of supply (about 10 will be able to be Gorn supplied - alas the fleet escaped the trap).
11 Romulan Shops will end the turn Out of Supply, but will be supplied for Alliance turn 22 (planets replace the tug supply chain basically).
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Wednesday, June 03, 2020 - 08:02 am: Edit |
Tough decisions on Retrograde and SM.
Klingons have to pull back from 3611 - as they main supply point, the MB in 3118 is felt to be worth saving (Tholians can attack next turn).
Once more, no reserves in Hydran space (although a D5V group and 2 Maulers arrived on the Old Colonies frontier).
One modest Lyran reserve is in 1401 and 2 are in 1910 (each with a PFT).
Klingons have 2 reserves in 2510 (each with a Mauler), 2715 and 3118),
Romulans have reserves in 4613, 4411 and a single ship reserve in 4705 (which couldn't Strat Move out).
Klingons spend 9 Ep's on Field Repairs (a D5V and 2 x AD%, Romulans spend 10 Eps (after a lot of confusion!).
Lyrans send 10 Ep's to the Roms - who have it in a Partial Grid in 3319/3518).

Highlights:
Fed economy is down 5EP this turn as the Coalition conquered one of their major planets for the first time.
Gorns and Feds are both spending over half their income on repairs. The ships were crippled for mostly excellent military reasons, so I love it!
For the first time, the Feds didn't build a CVA in a year. So they have to make do with 7. I kinda think Richard is right in general, but I'm not sure about that. In any event, this year they would have had to skip FF builds to afford a CVA, and there's no way that's a good decision.
By Paul Howard (Raven) on Saturday, June 06, 2020 - 08:16 am: Edit |
The captured territory and repair bill seems to finally making an effect on the Federation builds.
Alas the huge pocket was much reduced with Homeless supply

For any gawkers, here is a link to the game file. Some Romulan-side movement has been done, though the main fleets are yet to move.

Alliance turn 21 op move is well underway. The Feds and Gorns are combining to attack Romulan North Fleet SB. With 44 attacking ships, including 3 Fed CVA groups, they appear to mean business, even though 9 of the Feds, including one CVA group, are out of supply.
The current defenders are 16 uncrippled Romulan ships and 2 Klingons, plus a bunch of crips. There is also 7-ship Romulan reserve in range.
