Ryan, Ryan, and I have arrived at our hotel.

Let me know about Sunday lunch. I can suggest American, Chinese, Mexican, Barbeque, Golden Corral, and that new place that Petrick opened with the muddy foxholes and MREs.

Thanks for the fascinating book about a little known battle!

That is something Jean picked out.

I am looking forward to curling up with the book on the Army of the Potomac and its evolution from McClrllan's. Body Guard into the Guardians of the Republic. Thank you all very much for the book.

Well into the book. Brilliantly researched, intense detail, much discussion of tactics and reactions.
The only gripe I have is that the authors made an incredibly unfortunate mistake in that instead of using "Kate" and "Val" and so forth, they use the Japanese designations (translations of them) for the aircraft. That means every third line you have to flip back to the front where he says he's going to do that and lists the conversions. I doubt two dozen Americans know those Japanese designations. I am to the point of taking a ball point pen and marking the "American codenames" every time I see the Japanese words then going back and starting over again so I can read the story without interruptions.

Thanks again to everyone for such a great event!
To Jean and Al for opening their home and kitchen.
To Ryan and Joe for driving. (And to Wolfie for being the best guard dog ever...no one made it past that guy without approval)
It was fun to also explore the restaurants of Amarillo. Too bad we didn't make it down to 'The Muddy Foxhole'.

The Muddy Foxhole Cafe will be there next year. Petrick has arranged for the county fire department to bring their tanker truck over to provide mud.

Stratcon 2021 worked because of Covid reducing the turnout to nine people. While I want to do everything I can to convince you guys to do it in Amarillo next year, I think a "normal" turnout would exceed the capacity of Jean's house, and if Jean and I can do what we want to do (convince SFB, FC, and RPG players to attend for a few days) the house would explode.
Hotel space is an option but an expensive one. There are several "party buildings" in Amarillo but these tend to get expensive and you guys need something you can run from 8am to midnight. There is one such facility owned by a freind of Leanna's and we'll talk to the owner of that place in mid-August. There is a VFW building near my office which might be the cheapest regular place. I had a friend who owned dozens of empty buildings in Amarillo and he would have rented one of them to us cheap but unfortunately he was a covid casualty and his heirs don't know me or owe me any favors.
But we are looking around to see what could be available. You guys paid for a hotel ballroom before and if I can find something cheap enough you might all chip in a few bucks for that.

I very much enjoyed my (short) attendance at StratCon. I'd love to come in a future year and stay for the whole week!
Wonderful to meet so many faces FTF that I've known for decades but hadn't met!
