A new GW game with Ted Fay (Coalition) versus Joe Stevenson and Pete DiMitri (Alliance).
-Full rules, all expansions.
-No optional rules.
-No drone raids or PF raids. Normal raids, blockade runs, and commando raids are allowed.
-It is agreed that we will go with the updated rules once they are finalized and published, but that we will try to keep anything that has already occurred "as-is" as the new rules come out.

PLAYER WANTED!!!
We would like to add a fourth player to join Ted as a Coalition partner. While the team member certainly could play an empire, we mostly need a partner to help resolve battles more quickly. So, the level of involvement is up to the team member, but definitely will be Coalition and definitely will need to help with battles.

If your still looking - I am happy to put my hat in the ring.
My game with William is still on hold pending a Q&A - but it shouldn't cause any issues when it re-starts.
Main issue might be your on the wrong side of the pond - - but I am available in the Evenings and Weekends (and various other times).

Hi Paul,
So far, Lawrence Bergen and Karl Manigold have signed up. Karl is joining me as Coalition (he and I are full partners in all Coalition empires). Lawrence is joining Joe and Pete as Alliance.
Send an email to my email address in my info (the fneted email). I'll hook you up so the other players can connect.
However, you will be joining a team of 2 or a team of 3. So maybe that's too many cooks in the kitchen for you, maybe not.
As for the Coalition side we're not dividing up the empires per se, we're working as a team and both of us have full authority when playing all 3 Coalition empires. If you don't like that, try for Alliance. Or maybe you do!
Dunno. Think about it and send an email if still interested.

Sounds like you have enough to help both sides...without too many Chefs spoiling the broth

So all expansions...
How are you handling any minor empire involvement?
By Ted Fay (Catwhoeatsphoto) on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - 02:05 pm: Edit |
We are not using Minor Empires - so correction to "all expansions" statement.
By Peter DiMitri (Pdimitri) on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - 02:58 pm: Edit |
I am going to have to really reread Minor Empires again, I really don't remember what exactly their involvement does. Joe shot it down, but I'm not sure what was shot down!

ME has stuff like the Vudar, a more active and playable LDR, and the Seltorians.
Adding the Vudar and/or the LDR balances out much of the issues that the other expansions created by adding SO many ships (and good ships) to the Hydrans.
The Vudar basically make the Expedition trivial to stop, but otherwise they don't do much of anything.
The LDR provide a significant number of small and weak ships to the Coalition, but they really are not that powerful. I played with them once with Richard Eitzen (he was Alliance). They helped a lot with the pincount issues.
Never got a chance to play with the Selts - but I expect them to be more of a curiosity than anything else.
That's a rough and dirty.
Again, no ME in this game unless all players agree to it.

ME feels more like a package of smaller scenarios than an expansion to the Grand Campaign just from reading it. Which I think is great, it makes for more varied options for bite-size F&E

Cool to see the "Sleeping Giants" name still carrying on from way back when - and with a couple of the original players, too!
Be interested to follow it.

ME does put in a rule for auxiliary battle groups, a way to sometimes get an extra aux ship into a battle force.

"The Vudar basically make the Expedition trivial to stop, but otherwise they don't do much of anything. "
Not sure I like anything which takes away the one thing the Coalition need to be defensive on early on.
I guess it allows the Coalition to forward deploy more ships rather than guard against the Expedition?

I just briefly glanced over Minor Empires. First impression is that I'm a bit unimpressed. I definitely have been out of F&E mainstream for a while, but was this a product that players actually wanted? Is anyone using it? Just curious.

I've used ME in a game with Richard Eitzen. Overall, I liked it. ME really solves the problem we discussed at Stratcon with the Hydrans having too many ship, as the LDR effectively balance the extra Hydran pincount from the other products. The LDR can't go far past their borders, so they do help with the Hydrans but don't engage the distant theaters. The Vudar are basically blockers. Their ships (and there are not many) will stop Hydrans that enter their space, making the southern expedition route very difficult. The selts are curiosities.
Anyway, I enjoyed ME for the above reasons. But I know some folks (like Paul) won't like it.

I feel like the Selts were added as a balance to the addition of having to attack the Tholians...but I could be wrong because I never actually used them. (Just read the rules.)
The LDR and Vudar could be more interesting if they weren't relegated to this backseat role. I think in the future some scenarios incorporating them would be helpful.
By Peter DiMitri (Pdimitri) on Saturday, July 17, 2021 - 10:32 am: Edit |
I guess at some point I wouldn't mind playing one of the scenarios in the product just to see how they are. For incorporation into the General War, I need to get my F&E legs back before I can attempt it, because I'm trying to remember all sorts of crazy rules.
Karl makes a good point about the SELTs, but I'm still waiting to see the Tholians actually play a bit!

Any progress in this game?

Temporarily stalled due to real life. Should restart in a week or two.
