Well, if the Alliance gets too enthusiastic with selfkilling Tholians, you can always go conquer Tholia for the VPs.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Monday, September 07, 2020 - 08:06 pm: Edit |
Lol, the Tholians will have PFs shortly. So at Tholia, the SB will have 72 compot, and the 16 PDU will have 15 compot each, for a total of 312. That's assuming all the surrounding BATS and SB are pinned out.
But in practice, the Tholians will have some ships. They killed 6 this turn, not enough really as they still have 49. So if they kill 30 more during their remaining time in the war, which I would love to do but probably won't manage, they will still have 19, which should be more than plenty to deter the already-badly-overstretched Klingons. And the Romulans are in no position to help.

I did have a serious look at attacking Tholia when it was 'nearly defenceless' - but although it probably would have fallen, the economic cost far exceeded the value.
Tactically it did make sense (as it would reduce to some degree the damage the Tholians could have done) - but it probably would have been recaptured (and then liberated by me again) - and so strategically, it wasn't a good idea.
So, I think it's fairly safe to say it's safe!

First look at post combat and it's not as bad for the Federation as I thought.
Their South East Forces remain in full supply...
...and about 30 replacement fighters are not obtained by the Klingons in the South (the 2813 Supply Tug has got cut off - needed a single ship in 2515!!!!) - and a similar number in the north are not received as I outran the Klingon supply lines.
Fed Economy does look like it will be down around 113 though (plus very little NZ territory will be collected).
They do have a lot of Eps off map though to spend....
Kzinti and Hydrans have zero on map income, which is atleast some good news.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Tuesday, September 08, 2020 - 01:40 pm: Edit |
As a part of its humanitarian mission, the Federation wants to provide full employment to Klingon dockyard workers, while simultaneously sparing the lives of Klingon fighter pilots. Not only that, but we will recover some territory. It's a threefer!

With the Third Way about to come online, the Feds built and converted 11 escorts. Not sure if I should have done more.
One thing I am sure of is that the much maligned ECL suddenly looks a whole lot better. I would have converted more of them had more CL been on SB.
By Richard Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Wednesday, September 09, 2020 - 11:28 pm: Edit |
Why? Are you out of NCLs and DDs?
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Thursday, September 10, 2020 - 07:06 am: Edit |
Ran out of DDs ages ago, yes. Not close to out of NCLs, but I want them on the line. For example, if I have a line of CVBG with 6 escorts+something in form + 3NCL + scout, he needs 22 damage to kill anything. Having a CL on the line would ruin that.
The even DefPot is also less of a handicap in a CVBG. The spare fighters may eliminate the need to cripple anything, and if one does need to cripple something in the CVBG, chances are an NEC will be available.

Well, the Lyrans are 3 Ep's better off with the first of two questions answered.
PF's replacements from the Strategic Movement rules...
...and to paraphrase why it is 'special' - there is no utilising of Strategic Movement capacity to replace them (i.e. it's free) and it occurs out of the normal turn order - and the PFT can be the end point of movement - but enemy ships can disrupt the replacements.

More or less what I had been saying. :p
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 - 12:13 pm: Edit |
Paul we can wait until turn 26 for that. I don't believe in implementing this sort of thing right away.
By William Jockusch (Verybadcat) on Sunday, September 27, 2020 - 05:06 pm: Edit |
We went ahead and did the Hydran front, including combat, while the rest is waiting for a supply ruling. The Hydran plan for the turn was to put up carrier lines, get some frigates killed, and see what they could accomplish in return.
They lost 3FF, while killing a mauler and an E4A. The Coalition also took a few crips.

Seems there is a willingness to continue this if the rules situation can be resolved. But that does not appear likely.

A25 Fed econ changes for 9th fleet SB partial grid:
1EP spent on supply, not 4. Hordes of Kzinti fighters not refilled (41 I think it was).
3EP more spent on repairs.
Paul check your Slack for the move files.

Hi WIlliam - will do!
Alas - although the Kzinti are in trouble - I don't think they are in as much trouble as some of the Lyran forces are.
The deep raids achieved some objectives... but that cost will need to be paid this turn

Hi William
Setting up Slack and copying the files to my new computer.... old one is on the way out!

Slack and Cyberboard all up and running - and ready to rock (but probably not roll - that uses Space Fuel and lots of ships are short of it!).

Yes, the rolling was always your favorite part.
