Alliance Operational (Alliance Turn 8)

The Alliance again goes mostly for low-hanging fruit, attacking lots of province raiders in Hydran and Kzinti space, but sends decent fleets against BATS 1707, BATS 1807, and Sherman's planet, as well as overkilling BATS 2519. The Coalition has lots of good reserves, so some of the province raiders may be rescued, or there may be a real fight over one of the BATS in northeast Klingon space. Sherman's planet could just be a big open space fight if the Klingons want; the Feds have CVA, lots of replacement fighters, and a fair number of NCL/FF hulls to take damage on, so they appear prepared to fight it out.

Battle hexes to follow.

Alliance operational movement (Hydran Front)

Battle Hexes
0415 Four Hydrans attacking three Lyrans who are being rescued by a reserve.
0513 Thirty two Hydrans attacking a coalition force of five ships.
0715 Four Hydrans attacking three Klingons that are getting saved by a reserve.
0717 Four Hydrans attacking two Klingons
1017 A decent fleet of Hydrans attacking six Klingons.

Other movement:

A meaningful fleet of Hydrans has snuck back to NZ Hex 0213, out of range of the main Coalition stack at 0914, in order to menace Lyran space.

Alliance operational movement (Kzinti Front)

Battle Hexes
0803 A small fight with the Kzinti advantaged
1001 A small fight with the Kzinti advantaged
1105 A decent Kzinti fleet against a couple of Klingon garrison ships
1202 A small fight with the Kzinti advantaged
1401 A decent Kzinti fleet against 8 Klingon garrison ships
1502 Four Kzinti including a CVL against two Klingon garrison ships
1505 Four Kzinti including a CVL against two Klingon garrison ships
1804 Four Kzinti including a CVL against two Klingon garrison ships
1708 A strong Kzinti fleet against a Klingon, a Lyran cripple, and a BATS.
1808 The Federation 4th Fleet of 34 ships facing four Coalition reserves over a Klingon BATS where a garrison Klingon and a Lyran cripple were holding position.

Alliance operational movement (Federation Front)

Battle Hexes
Sherman's Planet: 68 Federation ships in the Federation Expeditionary Fleet, including a CVA, against 17 Klingons (the four reserves that will likely save 1808 were all in range of this fight, too.)
2519: 17 Feds in the 7th fleet attacking a BATS and a crippled F5, possibly because all the support they thought they were getting from the 3rd Fleet went to the planned knock-down, drag-out fight at Sherman's Planet (which now looks like a one-rounder).

Other movement:

A tug brings the Home Fleet FRD up to 2509;
An FF rounds up NZ hexes around Fed/Klingon/Tholian space;
FF,FFE back up to BATS 2610 for repairs;
Various ships that were moving forward last turn end movement on 2204 and 2211.

Combat on AT8 was Super Uneventful

The way the Coalition used its reserves meant that there were no real contested battles; everyone lost some ships but no combat hexes were in doubt and there weren't any fights where anyone had an obvious and good objective short of victory. The only hex that was even a little bit interesting was 1808 (where the Federation could have come in and shot the BATS out from under the Klingons, even if they couldn't win the hex) but the Alliance forces decided to retreat after a single approach round instead.

AT8 is over, and CT9 econs will come soon.

The Alliance didn't do a lot except back off to bases after combat. The Federation has reserves behind the front in northern Fed space (covering 2204 and 1802), Central Fed Space (2 reserves covering 1910, 2211, and Antares). The Kzinti have two reserves offmap and have taken back their (now utterly undefended) planets but left space open for the Coalition. the Hydrans have two reserves in the Capital, most of their ships there, but a decent fleet in the neutral zone on the 2 row where it menaces 0411.

10 EPs are flown to the Kzinti by strategic movement (using the Kzinti 2 free strat limit) on Federation FFTs.

And over to the Coalition.

This game is dormant. It is unlikely we will come back to it; after some discussion about where everyone's brain space is being spent these days, not to mention weekend time, we have admitted to ourselves we aren't pushing it forward. That isn't to say we won't play further or start another game at some point, but F&E is off the agenda between my son and I as it stands now.
