Alan,
Unfortunately, that rare one is the one I have. But the doc seems pretty confident.

Ryan man I am sorry bud. I wish you all the best and a speedy successful recovery.

StratCon logistics:
All: We will need a full set of maps / charts / counters plus at least 6-10x counters for the Feds in order to play the scenario we are discussing.
Ryan was going to drive and bring his set so with him out we now need a new supplier who can bring what we need. If we cannot get a set to do Eye we will have to shift scenario choices. We will need at least a set to play the scenario of choice.
Who can bring maps / charts / counters?
I do note: A map is relatively easy, charts are also simple to bring.
Counters to supply a full game or multiple games will need a vehicle or a commercial ship.

Take care of yourself, Ryan!

If someone wants to take the time to pack the needed counters compactly (baggies, not bins) and ship them here, ADB volunteers to ship them back at our expense.
By Jeff Guthridge (Jeff_Guthridge) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 05:04 pm: Edit |
I have the 1993 edition box set counters and carrier war module (similar vintage) set I could bring if they are of value.
By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 05:43 pm: Edit |
If people are willing to deal with laminated charts, rather than hard-mounted, I can bring a full set of fleet charts and the 1" fleet markers. I'll also bring my usual player-aid folios.
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 08:14 pm: Edit |
Pete is driving? Does his trunk have room for a full set of counters?
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 08:17 pm: Edit |
I can get a map on the plane...all of my counters however are organized in trays and while I am using the really nice Southwest Airline bags to locally move them, they have zero padding and would be crushed and broken by the friendly baggage handlers.
I have 3 of them with 15 trays each.
By Joe Stevenson (Ikv_Sabre) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 09:00 pm: Edit |
Pete would probably have room for counters. I'll ask him. I probably have enough to cover the game.
The only thing I might be short on is Fed counters. I'll check and see what I need.
It's 4x times I thought with the ISC. Is it 6x?
By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Friday, May 12, 2023 - 09:09 pm: Edit |
Production is 4x. Start remains 3x.

Actually
(632.42) FEDERATION: Every Federation ship is quintupled; that is, every Federation ship is joined by four identical ships. This does not include bases or ships on off-map survey but does in- clude repair ships, FRDs, and prime teams. The Federation re- ceives eight extra Reserve markers and can add one to any or all numbered fleets; any others go to the Home Fleet. Ships are released from the mothball reserve (which was quintupled) at triple the normal rate. Pods limits are quintupled.
(632.53) FEDERATION SCHEDULE: The Federation production schedule from the original rules is tripled (including free fighters; See schedule)
If the ISC is used, quadruple the original schedule.
The Federation can make six major conversions per turn. The Federation may use the starbases in the capital province for major conversions.
The Federation can buy three SWACS per turn and gets three free SWACS per turn. All special production limits (e.g., scouts) are tripled except police ships (532.1), Starbase Produc- tion: (431.5), Survey Advanced Rule (542.0).

Lawrence,
Pete informed me over the weekend that he won't be attending after all. I'm checking to see if I can get my counters there another way.
In the meantime, I'll try and see if I'll have enough counters for the setup plus 6 turns. I doubt we'd get any further than that.
By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 04:52 pm: Edit |
With another person out, we've probably hit the minimum number of players to be able to do Eye of the Storm.
Right now, it looks like 8 (only counting F8 & higher):
Bergen
Knipfer
Matthews
Ritche
Schaff
Stevenson
Strong
Wong
If we leave out the ISC and have 2 Fed players, it can still work, but any fewer and things could get difficult. Maybe have one person take both the Lyrans and Hydrans as a final contingency plan?
By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 05:12 pm: Edit |
If someone can figure out a way to get 80-ish Plano boxes from DC to Amarillo and back, I'm pretty sure I have enough counters to support this. I just did a quick (in)sanity check on the Feds: 126 CAs and 221 NCLs, plus whatever is sitting in the tub o' really old counters. The only things I can immediately think of that might come up short are prime teams and some of the auxes.
By Roger S. Ritchie (Rogerrit) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 07:18 pm: Edit |
(1 & 2) I suggest two Federation players. (3rd) I can manage the ISC and Gorns. That leaves five players to handle the other empires. Consider the option of (4th) Romulan and Tholian, (5th) Klingon and Vudar, (6th) Hydran, (7th) Kzinti, and (8th) Lyran and LDR.
By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 07:43 pm: Edit |
I would recommend no Minor Empires.
By Warren Mathews (Turtle) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 07:58 pm: Edit |
Ryan, I disagree as the introduction of (632.0) states:
Quote:Klingon diplomats swept across the galaxy, warning other empires of the threat posed by the Federation economy, and within days every empire, enclave, and minor power declared war on the Federation and moved to attack.
By Roger S. Ritchie (Rogerrit) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 08:01 pm: Edit |
Also, we can use blank counters and write the ship on them for some of the ships with few counters per expansion, e.g., Fed DNL.
By Joe Stevenson (Ikv_Sabre) on Monday, May 15, 2023 - 11:07 pm: Edit |
With Pete out, I'll take the Romulans. Klingons are available
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 - 10:10 am: Edit |
I was considering this option but requires a team effort:
As I (inspired by Ryan's set the last couple years) have just revised my storage situation, I would count up just my Feds to see if I can make it work for this scenario.
If so I could bring my own counters for the Feds. If I am short on 1-2 sheets of AO or SO, PO. I know a local guy (likes to call himself 'A River') that might be able to help me out for a few bucks.
I am certain I can get the 4 to 5 boxes into my traveling plan but NOT 45 boxes.
Could everyone bring their own empire, if we cannot get a full set? They are an easy sort at the end, as color scheme would tell us know who owns what. For me the path to home would be to bring a gallon Ziplock bag for the return (easy).
My LDR are all in one box (if it was decided they participate tho subbing Lyrans would be fine too)
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 - 10:15 am: Edit |
BTW the LDR involvement with the Feds would last about as long as lighting a wooden match.
By Joe Stevenson (Ikv_Sabre) on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 - 03:30 pm: Edit |
Not a bad idea. This way, everyone is bringing boxes they are familiar with, built to their own standards.
Sounds good to me. I only have to bring 2 boxes for the Klingons (1 for ols-series and K-hulls, one for the later stuff)
