Are we sure that we want to play this scenario or should consider something where we can get multiple turns in such as Winds of Fire?
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 - 09:29 am: Edit |
Okay I counted some of the key components and should be able to accomodate the Federation for this scenario. (As an example I had 22 DNL - 20 are needed to set up)
As for the Q of 632 Eye vs scenario 617 WOF.
I will leave it to the group… but personally Eye (IMO) is a MUCH easier scenario to set up vs the sector scenario and honestly being an alternate historical there are some questions that seem to need to be answered to make it more fun and “ready set go” playable.
Keeping in mind that unless it is decided in advance that a convention scenario is going to be recorded and continued year over year what you will get with a big scenario is:
1 no one will win, but it will be fun if everyone plays
2 a few turns will be played after a lot of set up
3 probably a turn less than expected in #2
4 several fun memories and maybe one that lives on with the group (like the capture of a Rom ROC that was sent to the Kzinti, or the near death experience of a B10 at the hands of a CX and a lucky roll, or the fighting retreat around the Orion province and back toward Klingon space)
5 as with all F&E games I have played some new interesting situations will drive some Q&A to improve the game
To Chucks point about Eye is the empires non-bordering (to the Fed) will indeed have less involvement and have to spend a couple turns driving forward to be involved. If there are a lot of battles (which there will be) and a lot of moves (yep here too) this will slow the game and raise the likelihood of the distant areas being less involved. For what player spent in real life $ to get to the Con this can be less fun. (I have been on both ends of this.) I feel tho (as a balancer) that the larger battles that will take place in WOF may be equally slow due to the complexity of the late war ships/rules many people are unfamiliar with.
Eye might not be possible if we lose more people and we will need 2-3 Fed players to keep it rolling.
For either side, we learned a while back and agreed that out of respect for all attendee players if a key player is not going to be at the table for an extended period then we will apply a “next human up” rule and one or more of their allies (or neutral 3rd party) will keep the game going until they return. Also if you need help ‘ask’, most people are willing to jump in and help with most things.

Sorry, been a bit busy. Catching up now.

I will be on two wheels for my trip down to Amarillo; so I will not be able to bring a counter set. Luggage space is exceptionally limited.
Yes, I've already been told I'm crazy but we all knew that already.
Having fully updated myself on the discussion thread finally: I could happily handle running both the Lyran and Hydran if needed. But if I have to bring my own counters they will be post-it notes stating what fleet that is with a notebook listing the ships. Sorry for being the problem child.

Good luck on your ride! May the weather gods smile upon you.

Dan, if you can deal with the Hydrans and Lyrans being in one bag of counters for each empire, I will be happy to bring mine for you to use. I will include my LDR counters for the LDR as well.
Lar and I have been talking about this scenario long before it was brought up as a suggestion for Stratcon and I will join him on the Feds.

I can bring the Hydran, Tholian, and Lyran in counter trays. Still have 2 spaces for accommodations.
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Sunday, May 21, 2023 - 12:19 am: Edit |
John, with Ryan Mike and Pete out we should recount who is in the house as there may be space for both you and RR.
Me (of course)
Chuck
Turtle
Jason
Dan
Did I miss anyone who committed before?
There are 6 rooms and 7 beds (all are queen except I believe the room with two beds, those may be singles).
RR has asked for his own room due to his nighttime Vader chamber apparatus.

Hey y'all....looks like there is a good chance I'll be driving thru Amarillo during this timeframe...coming back from a camping trip with my middle daughter (driving from middle of Colorado to near Dallas).
If it works out, I'd love to stop by and actually meet all of you.
Put me as a P6 for now. I would not need an empire to play or a place to stay as I'd likely only be there a few hours...just long enough to put some faces to names

Somebody be sure I am there when Brian is, or send Brian over to the office.
By Daniel Glenn Knipfer (Dgknipfer) on Friday, May 26, 2023 - 09:45 pm: Edit |
Turtle,
That would be fine. I can sort pretty quickly as needed.
Lar,
I too have a Vader chamber apparatus (C-Pap); though mine is fairly new, relatively small, and not really very loud (like a fan in the room). Just in case anybody has issues sleeping with even minor noise.

I know I seem to discuss this a lot but if you have been holding out on your flights Costco is now offering $500 southwest credit for $429 for the next two days.
Brian it will be good to meet you.
Steve 10-4 on the meet and greet notification.
Dan K two Vader and Dopplevader

Have we decided between 632 Eye vs scenario 617 WOF?
By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 - 11:13 pm: Edit |
I am going attempt to pull the Fed Setup tomorrow.
As I mentioned it should all fit into one tray.
I have sent an email to Staff Chuck/Ryan/Turtle with several set up questions for the game (mostly Fed but a few others) and will post them in the TacOps AAR thread for review and decisions (realizing that SVC wrote the scenario) tomorrow.
I think we have enough folks to do it.
I was thinking three Feds
Me Turtle Chuck
Vs the coalition of Dan, Joe, Jason, Roger, John and anyone else who shows

I can now confirm F10. Flights booked.

I wrote EYE but nobody I know of ever played it. I'm anxiously awaiting reports of whether it blew up and caused a crash and burn result.

Is anyone bringing the fleet charts?
By Warren Mathews (Turtle) on Wednesday, June 07, 2023 - 09:42 am: Edit |
John, is your profile email the best one?
By John Wong (Thefeds) on Thursday, June 08, 2023 - 07:29 am: Edit |
Yes it is.
By Jeff Guthridge (Jeff_Guthridge) on Thursday, June 08, 2023 - 08:27 pm: Edit |
I have had my time off approved. I should be considered a F8/P10 now.
I might not arrive until the 23rd and won’t know until T-48h
Has anyone started a room share?

For those who have heard about the flooding in Amarillo: the house you selected is well out of the flooded areas.
By Mike Erickson (Mike_Erickson) on Friday, June 09, 2023 - 04:58 pm: Edit |
Hopefully that's not because it was washed away....

The flooding in that area ("Lake Lawrence Ocean") happens every few years. The last time it was this bad was in 1980 and 1981 but it has been almost this bad three times since then. Some apartments/stores are indeed flooded, most are just "hard to get to" with water on the street being two feet deep. The BBQ place for the banquet is well out of the flood zone.
If you want to try google maps or something the flood district is between I40, Western, Georgia, and Olsen/28th.
The land around here is fairly flat, with maybe 20 feet difference in elevation. That does, however, create huge "bowls" that are 3-5 square miles draining into a very shallow 1/4 square mile lake that is in the center. These are called "playa lakes" and they have no exit, so whatever rain lands in the 3-5 square miles runs downhill into the lake. The lakes can be dry for years and then have ten feet of water for weeks until it evaporates.
