Then I guess I'm Klingon if Joe is Rom. That's Cool.

Hopefully the house thing gets worked out soon.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - 11:27 pm: Edit

I wish there was space at the office, or warehouse, but there isn't.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 - 11:48 pm: Edit

I checked with AirBnB tonight they do have an extenuating circumstances policy (for things like natural disasters). They claim this property is not eligible but that if we request a cancellation and refund it will be up to the host to grant it.

I can make this request. I will email some options to the group for additional houses in the area. It will be difficult to know what areas were affected if the water that came in was due to increased water table pressures and rising waters rather than the obviously affected areas that also had high standing water and above ground flooding.

I will review what options are there and request the owners answer some questions about water intake and potential flood damage. I will reach out to each of you.

Jean and Al thank you so much for offering your home again as contingency plan B. I will still my very best not to impose on you grand folks and search for a gaming space large enough even if our people are split up for sleeping.

SVC it would indeed be cool to game @ ADB!
In my experience that four letter word W-O-R-K always gets in the way of gaming somehow. (curses foiled again) :)

We will endeavor, the war must go on!

Joe thanks for the update about Patrick. I assume you mean the last days of StratCon23.

Roger, I'll bet would welcome some additional hands. (I am sure there is a multi handed species in the ISC membership).

If, of course the ISC is still functioning by then :)

You can check with Jean/Me about flood zones, which are remarkably small. Very few Amarillo houses have basements, which are prone to flood when we have six weeks of unseasonable rain. Come to that, Jean and I will take the time to drive to any house you pick and conduct an inspection.

Thank you I will let you know...I just sent the listings I found to the group

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 - 06:28 am: Edit

Send them to me and I will give you a heads up if any of them are problematic.

Getting caught up on the boards here, and I need to sort out where I’ll be sleeping (and yes, I know the current issues with Plan A). At this point I’m tempted to see about one of the flophouse hotels on I-40 and book one for a weekly rate if I can find a bargain. If anyone there has a go/no-go list for hotels to pass along I’d be grateful.

I am not competent enough with any empire to have any sort of preference. In truth my preference is to PLAY THE GAME not play my favorites. Likely I would work best as an assistant to the Federation if I understand the scenario being considered. I am humble enough to work with any empire that needs an extra neural network and pair of manipulators. Though I would happily take an assigned small or easily managed empire to fill out the TO. I learned how to play Axis & Allies by runing the Russians after all.

Eastern Amarillo hotels and Motel 6 on Paramount have less-than-stellar reputations. The hotel on Paramount next to Pacific Rim (Atrea Inn) has a fairly recent remodel and didn't get flooded. My neighbor seems to think Atrea is fairly decent.

Many western Amarillo hotels do have weekly rates, but they are close to the hospitals, so may be pricier.

Re: MAP

Al has one, not laminated, but usable. You can borrow it.

By John Wong (Thefeds) on Thursday, June 29, 2023 - 06:54 pm: Edit

I can confirm that I can bring the Tholian counters too. So with that all fleet charts, counters and map is covered.

Lawrence,

re: Patrick,

Yes, towards the end. Actually, he's going to be there until Sunday.

So July 26th-30th.

10-4 Joe

Thanks John

Al (and Jean) thank you we will try not to write on it then.

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Thursday, June 29, 2023 - 09:32 pm: Edit

I can mail one of my laminated maps to ADB if someone will mail it back.

Ryan

By Chuck Strong (Raider) on Thursday, June 29, 2023 - 10:40 pm: Edit

Could you mail the new fleet counters also? :)

By Ryan Opel (Ryan) on Friday, June 30, 2023 - 08:54 am: Edit

No.

Someone else can bring those.

By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Friday, June 30, 2023 - 10:33 am: Edit

I'm bringing the 1" fleet counters, but they're the older ones.

Update I have had another conversation with the Host and he has released us from the reservation. The home was not going to be ready.

The Stratcon23 house group have had some exchanges and we are looking at options. If any one else is thinking of attending and they need a bed to crash on NOW is the time to speak up.

Unfortunately there are no singly large enough locations to accommodate all of us in one sleeping space so we will need two locations and likely need to secure a vehicle for daily transports.

I will be emailing the main group again right after I hit [post this message].

We are dedicated and flexible gamers. (Or just addicts who will endure anything to push some cardboard around) :)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, July 01, 2023 - 09:02 am: Edit

You might try to find two places within a block of each other. Blocks in the part of town you are looking at are 100x200 yards so it's not a long walk.

By Jason E. Schaff (Jschaff297061) on Saturday, July 01, 2023 - 03:22 pm: Edit

I forget (There's a surprise! :) ) Are we using the LDR and Vudar in this scenario or not? I'm in the process of sorting out the fleet charts and 1" counters.

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Sunday, July 02, 2023 - 11:52 am: Edit

Okay I have secured two locations and rented a car.
I sent emails to Jean (personal) and SVC (work)

Roger you email bounces all of a sudden

INTEL REPORT ON 8307 Barstow Drive Amarillo
Relatively new upscale neighborhood
Not a lot of nearby food
Southwest a mile is I27+Hollywood with McD, Waffle house, other cheap chains
South four miles is GREEN CHILI WILLI'S best steakhouse in Amarillo
SPICY MIKE BBQ is well spoken of but the two Steve's won't go there at all, ever, for any reason, their mildest sauce is too spicy

By Lawrence Bergen (Lar) on Tuesday, July 04, 2023 - 01:52 pm: Edit

Awesome reporting SVC thank you.
Mesa is obviously closer to ADB for the annual pilgrimage to where all the magic happens (and I believe Jeans place for a visit and a peak into Jean’s cookie jar and Al’s stash of games).

Roger has provided a new albeit temporary email while he like many on this BBS work through a recent rash of ‘forced’ CPU and thus software updates.

Both places have space for the game (we believe from the photos). Another factor is the kitchens, the best one will be used all day every day to supply grub to the folks. Paper plates/cups and a do your own dishes plus one or two others policy will be the rule of the week to limit impact to those staying at the game location.
Per the host, the garage is unavailable at Barstow (no biggie) unless Dan was hoping to park his bike inside (Mesa for you :) )
No mascots allowed at the Mesa house so I will be staying at Barstow with the little dog.

We will be working out more details offline.

Hi guys I need a favor. Is it possible I can have shipped 3 to 4 packages to an address where I can pick them up when I'm in Amarillo?

As you guys know I live in Canada and shipping to here is usually double of what it would cost in the USA.

The items that will be shipped will be boardgames.
Thanks.
