1. Story "Cold Front" Captians Log 11 details the death of Prince Zh'Dromarzh. Causing the Lyrans to scrap the joint war plans to invade the Hydrans first.

I know I am not a staffer but I knew right where this one was.

Trimaran - (IIRC summary) started with Study in Y162 (after 4PW) to upgrade FF/DD class to carry 2 ESGs (as HFF/HDD seen as not effective), proof of concept with JPG followed by CW/DW...

3 - I don't think there's a specific Lyran/Lyran match-up outside of the LDR independence (SH122-Y145, SH123-Y153) though there was an SL F&E scenario (They who would be King) - SL#73/74 ('91)

I was mulling over this morning that some of these civil wars only run six to eighteen months which would only be 1 to 3 game turns. Honestly not that exciting for the players, but is this not due to the massive scale of F&E? After all the game is designed to play out an Epic War.

So what if smaller scale war rules were available to play? For specific scenarios involving a small part of the map like the WYN War of Return? We could for that specific civil war scale down the time to a single month. Keep Economics as they are, but turn the combat and movement phase into six impulses (Months) Make movement 2 hexes a month but eliminate Retrograde movement. Perhaps also limit the number of turns a combat can continue to show that a single hex is a massive amount of space and battles might play out over several months as fleet units fight a number of battles to control the area? Repairs should still only happen every six months.

The thought here is to drag out these small encounters and in essence turn a small part of the overall game board into a much larger area of play to make the Civil war more interesting.

While I'll purchase the product, and would love the counters and history, I personally can't see how this will be very fun in a historical setting for that reason among others.

Lets face it, stack 2 battle forces in planets 2 hexes away, and have nothing else on the map. Sure, on a micro sfb style scale a lot of things happen, but in F&E terms, its a battle or two. F&E is a game of interstellar warfare, not inter province arguments when in a single turn, your opponent can easily cross all of your space, and vice versa.

I dunno, I'll defer to SVC's judgement on how to do this, and based on past history I can't see being disappointed.

I'd be really happy to see full rules for the WYN, LDR, and Orion Enclave and how they can be actual players in the general war (like you can maybe sway the LDR to attack the Hydrans, or WYN can become a supply/retrograde point for Kzinti, or something). Those impacts I think would be more interesting to myself.

I'd love to see a mid level game tho. Basically if you were in prison, and had all the time in the world, the mid-level system could be used to resolve battle hexes. Perhaps each F&E turn is 6 to 42 of the mid-level turns. Each hex a 10x10 hex area, and then let all the maneuvering and combat take place within that "Sector". It could be easily converted up to F&E, or down to SFB. This could complicate F&E to the point of not being able to play it if you wanted that level of detail, but it would allow you to play a starship combat game, within your F&E game, and perhaps if you only have a few hours to sit down you could just fight out a couple of battle forces at this scale. Counters would, of course, be the same as F&E, but a more detailed damage model that may require paper or damage chits. Oh well, we'll see :)

The big bag of stuff that was civil wars was (last week) divided into three products:

Minor Empires, the next product: LDR, Vudar, Seltorian. This should be a fairly easy module to do. We'll do it when we next need to reprint some other F&E counters.

Civil Wars: Kzinti (first and second, which was the wyn war of return and we'd probably just move all of the wyn stuff here), Lyran (pick one, they had several), Romulan (the post-general war one). Might also put in a fanciful Fed and/or Klingon civil war.

Lost Empires: Carnivon, Paravian, maybe one other.

It's very likely that Andro War will come after Minor Empires and anybody's guess when CW or LE would be done.

To clarify, was there a civil war in Kzinti space between the (first) Usurper War and the War of Return?

The original Usurper's war would need Eary Years rules and counters to support it, since it took place in Y116.

(But then, a scenario postulating a civil war in Kzinti space at some point during the Middle Years wouldn't be entirely outside of the realm of possibility.)

Alternatively, perhaps it could be a good opportunity to include a scenario for the Second Fed-Kzinti War of Y136-142? I'm not sure if one exists in Captain's Log or not, but it could be an interesting "minor" war to showcase.

For the Lyrans, the civil war which took place in Y156-157 (between the LDR's declaration of independence and the onset of the Four Powers War) could be interesting, not least since players could have their games run from one scenario to another; start with the Battle of Vandha, fight the post-LDR civil war, and then dive into the 4PW itself.

And it's good to see Andro War moving that much closer into view! Hopefully Minor Empires can get on the production block soon, so that things can really get interesting...

I would personaly like the WYN to stay in minor empires. especialy since the andro tried to invade them.

I see with the exception of "Civil Wars: WYN cluster" that several years have passed without any comments on the progress of Civil Wars being introduced into the game.

Are there any updates on when CW may be released?

I'm just curious.

Thanks, John
