The face of the Romulan woman in Dale McKee's image reminds me of my girlfriend's evil sister... oh dear.

Very good work though.

As long as I don't think about the connection!

The art question was a good one so I put my answer in company weblog.

By Matthew Pulido (Talison) on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 12:20 am: Edit

Thanks, Steve.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 10:18 am: Edit

My pleasure, Cousin Pulido.

(to get the joke, see page 137 of GRoms)

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 10:42 am: Edit

Heh... thats funny Cousen Cole. :O

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 11:01 am: Edit

I had so darn much fun with page 137, and so many people are going to get the joke.

By Matthew Pulido (Talison) on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 11:33 am: Edit

GAhhhhh... now I'm going to be going nuts for weeks waiting for it.

By Robert Gilson (Bobcat) on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 - 10:44 pm: Edit

Oh I get it.

"Cousin Pulido has offered one of his daughters in marriage to a nephew of Senator Antreidies, and the dowery contracts will also give us a few ships. Antreidies will also put some pressure on Karlok and will cut off fuel supplies to Orsini, driving up their costs. Actions have consequences."

“Clever,” Nyboer said. “We did something like that with rhodinium only a few years ago.”
“And it didn’t work,” Iniquez reminded the table.

“We can do without their pergium!” Bonaiuto said. “The long-term contracts are convenient, but we can buy pergium on the open market at any time. A quarter of the Empire’s production is not under long-term contracts.”
“So you would assume,” the Senator replied, “but our intelligence operatives tell me that Casifax is secretly locking up the usual short-term pergium offers into long-term contracts."

SVC: who is doing the cover for GR? (and what does it look like?)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 04:19 pm: Edit

Calero. Like some Romulans and some planets and a spaceship.

By Chris Bonaiuto (Epyon) on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 10:23 am: Edit

Whoa! My name is in GRUPS Romulans!! SWEET! Now if only my name will be used in GRUPS Federation, I could die happy! hehehe.

By Matthew Pulido (Talison) on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 10:33 pm: Edit

I'm pretty surprised mine's in there. Not a comon name at all.

By Chris Bonaiuto (Epyon) on Thursday, March 31, 2005 - 11:39 pm: Edit

Matthew, mine's not very common either. I told my best firend about this today. He's Trekkie, (I"ve been trying desperately to get him into SFB) and he said me being a Romulan actually fits me. He basically said that the Romulans combine some of the qualities of the Klingons and the Vulcans, the two races that he thinks I resemble the most. This is actually one of the coolest things to happen to me in a long time (yeah, I know, my life sucks, but oh well *shrug*)

Oh, oops! I just noticed my last post in here. I should've said GURPS instead of GRUPS. D'oh!

By Matthew Pulido (Talison) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 02:09 am: Edit

Yeah, I can imagine you don't see your name much. I sit through the credits of every movie I see and have only seen my name once (in Troy).

Weird having an uncommon name at times. My friends names are so common. Heck, I even know a Steve Jackson.

But yeah, I'd say this is a fairly cool thing to happen to a Trek fan.

“Nice of you to offer up a daughter,” Bonaiuto said.

“No sacrifice,” Pulido replied. “She’s been in love with the boy since they met at University. This marriage has been coming for months, but I delayed my blessing to see what favors we would need.”

“Well played, cousin,” Bergensus said.

“Why is this an issue?” Kentaro asked. “Just call back the ships we have leased to other Houses.”

Of course, I expect in the book we will also find out how the Romulans manage to be both very divided, inclined to much backstabbing and tripping each others feet, and a coherent political and military force at galactic level:P

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 11:04 am: Edit

They'd do a lot better if they didn't have the backstabbing. They are their own worst enemies.

By John Sickels (Johnsickels) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 12:16 pm: Edit

I devoted a lot of effort to trying to answer you question, Carl. I hope you are happy with the result.

By Carl-Magnus Carlsson (Thereplicant) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 12:31 pm: Edit

I appreciate that John. I have been one of those guys with pointy ears since I first heard of SFB, and before. (Its silly that I should bother so much about what is purely fiction!:) )
The background material says they beleive their destiny is to become masters over the galaxy, and that they constantly work towards that goal.
But so far in the fiction they seem care less if the Gorn attack than what their political enemies do. It would be nice to have more stories were they manage to get things right, so to speak.
I'll definitely buy the module for the background material in any case:)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 01:04 pm: Edit

Carl: you seem to be judging 144 pages of Romulans by one semi-humorous page about political infighting. While political infighting is a tiny part of the book and of Romulans, it's what that one page is all about.

By John Sickels (Johnsickels) on Friday, April 01, 2005 - 01:43 pm: Edit

Carl: The book explains the origins of the Great House system, but it also explains how the Imperial government developed as a reaction to the tensions and stresses in the political system. Trust me, it will all make sense when you read it.
