Steve,
Please consider areas for Rank, Decorations, Time in Service, Will rating (Usually your IQ + any strong or weak will), Vision, Hearing, Taste/Smell, Fright Check, and a smaller area for non-carried equipment & monies.

Robert

Re: character sheets.

Oh, there are so many opportunities here!

First of all, pay attention to graphic formats. Borders, symbols, etc. should all be Trek-appropriate. I would _love_ to see something like a UFP symbol watermarked on the whole sheet. Or at least a little one in the corner.

Re: back page:
-note that a lot of what's on the GURPS character sheet won't be that necessary (Trek characters have less equipment). So, I would propose a bit of background information. A big section covering Service History (i.e., Background, Academy, Cadet Cruise, various Tours of Duty, etc).

Re: front page:
I disagree with the earlier post about rank. I definitely think that this character sheet should be aimed at the Starfleet character (I know GPD has room for non-Starfleet-types, but I expect these will always be in the minority). When I played in a PD campaign a while ago, the GM had a box for rank and pro rep points. He was using the TNG collar-pip system for marking rank, and would award us pips upon promotion which we would glue down on our character sheets (these were hole-punched pieces of gold or silver paper). It sounds cheesy, but it was wonderful in action. So, _definitely_ a box for rank, with some spaces for unused Reputation points, or whatever GPD will be using.

Other things:
-perhaps a box for area of service (i.e., sciences, medical, etc.) that you could put a graphic into, if one is a good artist (or could download from the net).
-definitely a line for ship, and position on it.
-possibly a space, listing at least, awards and ribbons.
-definitely a line for race, and maybe a special box for racial advantages and disadvantages, to set these off from other character ads/disads.

Of course, some elements taken off a military 201 file might be appropriate as well...

My theory is to have the character sheet on the website for download. We could have several on the web site, including a civilian one.

SVC: just sent you my last comment: basicly the ships look good to me. (no change)

By Aaron Hendricks (Aar0n) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 12:59 pm: Edit

and I'll order up some buzz on the SJG website.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 01:51 pm: Edit

Aaron: Ok, so that thing you were going to check on about sensors and skiffs and free traders was ok?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 01:52 pm: Edit

Aaron: this one:

Aaron-148 Star ships
I have to look up one thing before this is complete
ready (mainly the ECM modules on these things. Right
now the freighter has to much and the security skiff
does not.
SVC: Please advise immediately.

AARON: AND THESE

Aaron-143: Tractor Beams: I’m not sure of why we need a whole
set of tractor beam interaction rules. It seems over
complex . I’ll investigate what they say in GURPS
vehicles and GURPS space. Maybe we can just refer
them to another page in those books.
SVC: I am not sure what you are saying.
I AM GOING TO ASSUME THAT WHATEVER THIS ONE WAS, NOTHING NEEDS FIXING.
=
Aaron-143: DRONES: The drone chart can be slimmed down. For
example we don’t need Volume, Mass, Cost (in the
description of chart).
SVC: Nothing to be gained by slimming it. If the data does no harm, I’d say leave it.
If there is something wrong, we can fix it.
I AM GOING TO ASSUME THAT WHATEVER THIS ONE WAS, NOTHING NEEDS FIXING.
=
Aaron-145 [9.6]
Energy Allocation Table
"Moving at 25% of Tactical Warp (speed index of 0.25)"
Remove the speed index of 0.25) this is a remnant of
the ship construction chapter.
SVC: removed. What about...
o Moving at additional 25% of total Tactical Warp (up to 100%)
DO I REMOVE THIS OR NOT?

By Aaron Hendricks (Aar0n) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 02:02 pm: Edit

Tractor beams: I only answered a question you asked me in an email. I think that everything is ok with tracs.

Drones: I think you should remove volume, mass, and cost in the chart. It is confusing if we don't explain it in any way. Its not used in our published rules so lets chuck it.

Energy Allocation Table (EAT):
Remove: (speed index of 0.25) thats it.

keep the: moving at additional 25% of total tactical warp (up to 100%)

the speed index thing was what we used to create the ships (we aren't including that in the rules).

I started some buzz in the SJG website... the question they ask. "will it done for Origins?"

I don't know what to tell them.

By Aaron Hendricks (Aar0n) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 02:09 pm: Edit

I just caught something:

You added a whole bunch of rules about weapon placement: Hull: 360, Rear. yet you don't mention them in the ship descriptions.

By Aaron Hendricks (Aar0n) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 02:33 pm: Edit

are all the weapons concedered "hull" mounted weapons, unless otherwise stated?

if that is the case then it just needed to be stated like that.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 03:01 pm: Edit

Tractors: ok.

Drones: Dunno. I hate to lose data. I think I'll leave it for now and ask Kromm to decide.

Energy Allocation: Ok, delete the first thing (already done) not the second (which fortunately I never deleted).

Origins sounds very doable unless SJ just hates it. We'll send him a draft end of the week, first of next week.

Weapons: Yes, everything is hull unless stated otherwise.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 03:03 pm: Edit

Page 156 already says all weapons are hull mounted (advantaged firing only) unless otherwise noted. So we're done with nine.

By Robert Cole (Zathras6) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 03:44 pm: Edit

*scratches head*

Mr. Butram? I'm confused...

By Robert Merkamp (Rdm) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 04:00 pm: Edit

Yes, me too, do you mean "let sleeping dogs lie?"

By Christopher E. Fant (Cfant) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 04:03 pm: Edit

Or, he could have some type of canine fetish that we are as yet unaware of.

By Scott Tenhoff (Scottt) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 04:07 pm: Edit

I think he means the 'Dogs nipping at SVC heels' to get it done.

By Christopher E. Fant (Cfant) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 04:10 pm: Edit

I like mine more.

Perhaps the Carnivon's are attacking him and he's running... very... fast...

By Christopher E. Fant (Cfant) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 04:27 pm: Edit

but with nippers, not fast enough.........perhaps he has a fear of becoming dogfood?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 - 05:02 pm: Edit

Ok, we just had a key meeting, the first time all three of us have turned through the book and decided on things like standardizing sub-headings and the like. We also made a list of "search and replace" things we need to do. Tricky document since pieces came from many sources. GURPS probably provided 50 pages, SFB another 30, Gary 40, me and others some after that. And all of us did some things just a little different.

Anyway, each Chapter has to go through several steps:
1. SVC makes all marked changes and fixes headings.
2. Leanna does searches and spell checks.
3. Print out a new hard copy.
4. Everybody here reads it.

Chapters 0 and 1 have been done by me (step 1), Leanna is working on zero now.
