Don't you mean "Gravity", Loren?

No, I just thought it should be screwed up in a different way.
D'oh!

Gurps 4th ed Space was released today.
I wonder what will be good for PD?? some starship combat stuff/ construction would be nice.
By Nick G. Blank (Nickgb) on Friday, March 31, 2006 - 09:53 pm: Edit |
It has no starship construction/combat stuff.
It should have some stats for a basic selection of ships (I think) that will operate under the existing combat rules in basic set.
Detailed construction rules they said they are savng for another product.
It will have loads of stuff for creating solar systems, planets, and alien life forms, in lots of detail.
My copy is on order, but I guess it didn't come in to the gamestore today as they didn't call me.

I was told to expect it next Tuesday.
(Which is not a problem as I'm in Idaho at the moment.)

Probably a 4th ed Vehicles...will have the construction rules...
By Nick G. Blank (Nickgb) on Saturday, April 01, 2006 - 10:50 am: Edit |
From what they are saying on the SJG boards, 4th ed Vehicles (the actual book) will not have construction rules, but will be a gigantic book of vehicle listings. The vehicle construction rules will be published separately as a PDF download only.

That doesn't seem good
By Nick G. Blank (Nickgb) on Saturday, April 01, 2006 - 01:41 pm: Edit |
Unfortunately, most people that they talked to said they don't use the complex construction rules, and would rather just have a listing of the basic performance/game stats of loads of different vehicles. So that is what they are doing. The Construction rules will still be available, just not as hardcopy. Not at first anyway, there is talk of doing POD at sometime in the future.

There are some good alternatives. GURPS PD could do a vehicles & equipment book with an abbreviated system. Or we could open up a new topic on the board for vehicles we design.

I thought that GPD would have a supplement "starfleet" something
http://www.starfleetgames.com/prime/
Gurps Space 3rd ed did have somekind of construction and combat system further added to by vehicles. I wonder how this decision will affect future Gurps PD products?
By Sean Bartholome (Kana) on Sunday, April 02, 2006 - 06:51 am: Edit |
With luck maybe it will be a free PDF download. And with SVC looking for ideas for GPD ship construction/combat rules, maybe he could get a copy of any playtest stuff or what have you that he could give to intersted parties...
By Dwight Lillibridge (Nostromo) on Sunday, April 02, 2006 - 07:58 am: Edit |
GURPS Vehicles will be from what I have seen and read a PDF on e23. it will have 4e rules for construction and vehicle action like the 3e version did, only in 4e modifications to fit the new rules for damage and so on. to me sounds terribly disappointing. though if david pulver writes it maybe it will have merit as he does some seriously good stuff.
By Nick G. Blank (Nickgb) on Sunday, April 02, 2006 - 02:26 pm: Edit |
The actual vehicles book will be just a listing of vehicle stats. I may or may not get it. Probably will.
The download will be the complete 4th edition vehicle construction rules. They are putting just as much work into the system as if it were a book, but it will sell as a regular E23 download, like GURPS Mysteries is now. It is David Pulver I belive. He did the construction stuff in the new Gurps traveller book, as that was a very specific and limited subset of the full construction rules.
I am dissapointed in that it won't be a book, but am very glad it is indedd still appearing and plan to buy the download as soon as it is available.
The download contains the rules, the book contains examples of things built with the rules. Many more people (i.e. the regular GURPS players) wanted completed examples than wanted the construction rules (i.e. the rabid GURPS gearhead GMs), hence the different ways of publishing. Too bad (says a rabid gearhead type), but that's the way it looks to be. I'm just glad they are putting it out, and will be just as happy (more or less) with the download as with the book.

Hmmm, if they aren't publishing those rules in a book form I wonder if, as part of PD ship construction, those rules could be published in book form by ADB?
That might draw new clientel.
By Nick G. Blank (Nickgb) on Sunday, April 02, 2006 - 04:17 pm: Edit |
Why? Those rules are the general rules for any vehicle (bicycles to starships) and any setting. We want something setting specific, and even if we just take the warp drive stuff from their rules, it isn't going to match SFU as well as we would want. Easier to just convert our own, perhaps after their general rules are put out.
