Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Prime Directive RPG: NEW GAME SYSTEMS: D6 Prime Directive: Archive through July 12, 2006

I'm soon to be able to email a few thought I knoked together for ship to ship combat under D6 if people would like to take a look.

By F. Douglas Wall (Knarf) on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 04:16 am: Edit

Patrick: I don't feel the need to muck around with things too much. One of the reasons there are different systems is because people want their game to do different things. That's the way the D6 System wants to do things, so I'm inclined to go with it.

By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Sunday, April 30, 2006 - 06:44 pm: Edit

I've finished constructing my thoughts on D6 ships to ship combat so if anyone would like to have it emailed to them I could send it their way.

By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Sunday, April 30, 2006 - 07:04 pm: Edit

Has anyone considered changing the six D6 difficulty ratings to match the SFB target numbers of weapon for ship to ship combat.

1-6 5
1-5 10
1-4 15
1-3 20
1-2 25
1 30

Now the question is what to do about 2D6 numbers like hellbores. My guess is use increments of 2.5 rounding up if below 17 (on the D6 scale) and down if above. So a hellbore would be:-

Range 0-1 2 3-4 5-8 9-15 16-22 23-40
Old hit# 11 10 9 8 7 6 5
Calc' 2.5 x (14-11) 2.5 x (14-10 2.5x (14-9) 2.5 x (14-8) 2.5x (14-7) 2.5 x (14-6) 2.5 x (14-5)
D6 Hit number 8 10 13 15 18 20 23

And I guess that's an indication of why the Hellbore is so d'mn accurate.

I guess range of effect weapons would just require a PC to roll a skill check and consider the results as follows to be rolls on the respective weapon tables.
D6 roll result
56
105
154
203
252
301

But this might create a spectyurm that is too stuff and polayers who roll 1 through 4 would want to know what their results mean ("Phasers can miss now!?!").

MJC: I doubt the creation of a system that works completely unlike existing D6 mechanics is a proper starting point.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, May 01, 2006 - 10:43 am: Edit

Indeed. Stay out of this, MJC. We have D6 professionals doing the ship combat system. You are just confusing customers.

Arrrgh.

SVC:

I think what I've cobbled together might spark an idea with the designers so I would like to email them (the designers).
If they read and disreguard it then that's okay but if I can inject some SFB flavour into it then at least considering what I've got to say would be worthwhile.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, May 02, 2006 - 11:36 am: Edit

No thanks. D6 has its own combat system and the D6 designers (who, like tens of thousands of gamers, are very familiar with SFB) are having no trouble at all making SFB fit into it nicely. I don't want to distract them by making them review another "helpful" document that does nothing they haven't already done for themselves.

I'm with Steve; too many cooks spoil the stew. If the finished product isn't completely to someone's liking they can throw in some "house rules" for their game group. Besides, they may still want some playtesters, and I'm on the list. That's enough for me.

By michael john campbell (Michaelcampbell) on Wednesday, May 03, 2006 - 12:51 am: Edit

Conversely I beleive that since everbodyis unique it is possible for someone to have a unique idea.
Since SVC has already made himself clear, there's no point to chime in as it'll only further a debate that doesn't need to go anywhere.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Wednesday, May 03, 2006 - 10:17 am: Edit

Perhaps when playtesting becomes available, you will be able to see the product at hand and make suggestions from that...

By F. Douglas Wall (Knarf) on Friday, May 05, 2006 - 05:45 pm: Edit

That's why I'm not posting or e-mailing anyone my D6 conversion yet. I'm just letting people know it exists and if they have a use for it, then I'll forward it to the appropriate place.

Even if it's never viewed by an official source, I'm glad I got the opportunity to learn the D6 System and put it through it's paces.

Steve/Ken:
I know Ken will be missed. Good Luck to you Ken.
As far as playtesting PD6d (I know it is sometime away yet), Ken had mentioned I was on "a list of people to help playtest." Ken, could you make sure the person working on the project has my contact info. Thanks and good luck.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, May 19, 2006 - 07:00 pm: Edit

Ken has already been missed (when Petrick took him quail hunting).

By Kenneth Jones (Kludge) on Saturday, May 20, 2006 - 10:45 am: Edit

It's good to be missed

Of course that could be contrued as being fired

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Saturday, May 20, 2006 - 11:16 am: Edit

Two go out....three come back?? Quail hunting with Phaser rifles (set to stun?), photon grenade launchers, Gorn on a leash?

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:08 pm: Edit

I haven't seen anything new in the post in awhile. Is there any update of this verison of PD?? Playtesting timeline, even a guess?

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Tuesday, July 04, 2006 - 03:26 pm: Edit

PD6 should be coming along??? At one point, my name was on the "playtest" list. Are we getting close to that point? Even rough drafts that need input?

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Tuesday, July 04, 2006 - 04:25 pm: Edit

I'm sure little has been done due to Origins. Give it some time and check back since that Mother-OF-All-Side-Tracks-To-Product Developement is now over.

By Dave Adams (Roguecop) on Tuesday, July 04, 2006 - 08:11 pm: Edit

I told you, man..."Christmas 2006." :) :) You KNOW how long it takes games to come out. *LOL*

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Wednesday, July 05, 2006 - 10:21 pm: Edit

I know, I know, just like to see the topic come up once in a while on board.........

By Dave Adams (Roguecop) on Thursday, July 06, 2006 - 01:11 pm: Edit

Me, too. Gives me hope that D6 is coming SOON! My friends are chomping at the bit to play.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Thursday, July 06, 2006 - 05:18 pm: Edit

Chomping, heh...my friends are throwing the bits at me....smile

I've come to accept the release dates listed here as rather optimistic. One of the reasons I hang out here is to be more aware of when the real release date is. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see better instead of faster. And the other plus to hanging around here is helping to make the products better as they're developing. I'm very proud to have been listed as a useful commentor in both GK and GR (Though I'm still trying to figure out what I said that was useful for GR).
