Steve, I know the guy who does d6 powers looked at the possibility at one point (as I saw him at Gencon and mentioned their perhaps could be an opportunity). He was at least intrigued. His product is really well done.

Maybe shoot him a bone

What an albatross this project seems to have become for SFG. I'm sorry to hear of it. Stick with it if you can, Steve. Lots of fans out here ready, willing, and able to support a PD:D6 release.

I intend this to happen. First problem is that I have too many irons in the fire to keep track of everything, and if somebody else drops a ball I don't notice it until later.

Say I send a memo to somebody doing PD:D17 and tell him to get back to me with the draft of the Klingons by 23 March. Come 23 March he doesn't. I'm probably busy enough that I don't notice until 23 july.

What about asking interested players to help "police" or keep track of projects. This might just be when communication happens between you and the writer, this 3rd party person is just carbon copied. Then, if an intended response isn't seen after a certain time, another pair of eyes recognizes this and emails you.
Also, I you might try contacting the guy I mentioned who does the GodSend Agenda stuff.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 05:07 pm: Edit

Darren: no point in talking to anyone new until I decide that the guys who were doing it aren't going to. Also, I suspect that the guy you mention won't like the way the deal works since he can't print the product.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 06:50 pm: Edit

True, but I just wanted to point out a potential author, of which I own some of his product line, that I know is a d6 writer.

Saw this announcement from the WEG website:
--------------------------------------------
West End Game products are going back into distribution, with great deals for you!

After a long time of WEG products being in limited availability to retailers and consumers, West End has joined up with Impressions Advertising and Marketing, with the later handling all distributor and retailer order fulfillment. This is great news in that is means products will soon be back on the retailer shelves.

To help drum up interest in West End Games products, the D6 Core books (D6 Adventure, D6 Space, and D6 Fantasy) are getting a permanent price change. From now forward, the MSRP for these books will be dropping to just $19.99.

Additionally, to reduce our stock of some supplements, and make room for new roleplaying products, we'll start bundling free books with select products.

Do we know if the current author of d6 PD is still with the project??

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 - 05:39 pm: Edit

No. And I'm too busy to find out until FCTA ships.

SVC:
So, I have noticed that WEG (the owner of the d6 system) is starting to move in a positive direction:
1.) Their website just got an overhaul with new additions and downloads.
2.) Their products are once again available from distribution (and at a lower retail price).
3.) They just announced the addition of a new writer (that use to work for WEG back in the Star Wars d6 days).

Perhaps that will help the PDd6 project in some way.

There seems to be some long discussion going on in the forum of WEG.
I tried to post some clarifications to what was being posted, from what I know, to help clarify what ADB is doing on d6.

SVC:
Would it be possible to post a general note in the WEG forum that you are looking for someone to tackle the d6 PD project and to contact you??

I would be happy to post such a thing for you (to save time, etc.) that was official from ADB. But I would never do such a thing without your permission.

I am in contact with three writers now. When I get past CL35 (or maybe past Origins) I will do something to more D6 forward.

For the next 10 days, forget it. I busy with CL35. After that, I have a very few slack days before starting the Origins push, and a lot of things I need to do (D6 among them), far more than those few days will allow.

If I had a perfect writer today, I wouldn't be able to answer his questions until after CL35 or maybe after Origins.

By Darren Kehrer (Kehrer1701) on Saturday, May 12, 2007 - 02:46 pm: Edit

No problem, wasn't aware of that info and just wanted to see if I could help get writers for you.
It is nice to see the WEG forum getting some heavy discussion about it, however.

Is there any chance WEG will release a PD:D6 game? Did SFG retain all the rights to this D6 genre?

By William F. Hostman (Aramis) on Saturday, June 09, 2007 - 03:46 am: Edit

Dave: ADB (Amarillo Design Bureau, Who have a web-domain named StarFleetGames.com), have, according to SVC and SPP in the past, been restricted from sub-licensing their derivative IP.

So ADB actually makes G:PD, not SJG, but SJG has approval on some level.

ADB probably CAN'T let WEG do it; they have to do it "in house" and fair use requires that, if they do, they license the d6 engine from WEG.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the heads-up on that. I'll keep waiting (somewhat) patiently. :)

Hi Steve. Just popping back in to see if there's anything new about PD:D6 your company (or anyone) can share? Thanks.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Sunday, September 09, 2007 - 04:31 pm: Edit

No news at this time. Mostly a matter of having too many projects to manage, and it's too easy to not notice that outside writers never did what they promised to do. I found one who might be reliable, but I won't have time to even talk to him until later this year. (After my wedding, anyway, maybe early october. And if anybody doesn't know, Leanna and I are taking a week's honeymoon to "renew our vows" on our 30th annivesary.)

Much happiness to you on your re-dedication. :) Thanks for the update.

By David Dalton (Sdfmacross) on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 11:40 am: Edit

Hi,

I am new to the boards, and I want to know if there is any news about D6 Prime Directive?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 02:16 pm: Edit

Not so far. Every writer we hired disappeared. A new guy who, several months ago, said he would do it when asked has not responded to an email sent two weeks ago asking when he could start.

Remember, I cannot write it myself and am at the mercy of writers who do, or don't, do their jobs.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 02:52 pm: Edit

Dang, this D6 thing is starting to sound like a Cthulu mystery.

By David Dalton (Sdfmacross) on Friday, July 25, 2008 - 12:13 am: Edit

Hello Again.

5 months later, is there any news?

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Friday, July 25, 2008 - 09:00 am: Edit

Hi David,

With the shakeup going on in the D6 world, right now the D6 project will have to wait until the fallout finishes.

As for the amount of time it is taking, please remember that I'm only one person with a real-world job and that I also proofread everything the company publishes as well as mind the BBS. We had a big push for Origins and in about six weeks released Captain's Log, Omega 5, and Distant Kingdoms. During that time, I didn't have the time to work on the RPG lines.

D6 is somewhere behind Prime Directive (d20 Modern flavor) and the Federation sourcebook. After I finish those I will evaluate which "flavor" core rulebook is closest to being done and move on that. That rulebook will then be in line to have sourcebooks released for the line.

I wish I could wave my magic wand and have them all done, but proofreading and editing take time. You don't want a Cromarg who should maybe be 3'10" +2d4 to accidentally be 10'3" +2d8 !

Does that help answer your question?

Jean
