* And Joan mutters about the letter "K" *

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, November 06, 2009 - 07:12 pm: Edit

It's actually a corruption of a Russian field Marshal from the Reagan era, Shaposhnikov, commander of the Russian Army Corps of Engineers. American Army engineers were secretly upset that at best they could reach two-star rank, while their Russian equivalents could aspire to five-star rank.

Thanks SVC, that's interesting.

For the information of GMs and players, there's a couple of other Orders mentioned in the fiction, in Captain's Log #38 "Further Duties" Kurs receives the Order of Kepish, for those who have succeeded in capturing a ship by boarding. This award is not available to subject race personnel. The subjects involved in capturing Demonslayer received the Order of Sarol.

There are only about 600 Klingon "orders" so we won't ever list them all.

By Loren Knight (Loren) on Saturday, November 07, 2009 - 12:25 pm: Edit

Are there orders of Orders? That is, Orders that are considered truely respected Orders that are rarely given as opposed to orders made to honor individuals for various political reasons or such. It seems that with so many Orders that some would consider the more recent additions to be something akin to a combat medal or a tool of the meritocracy.

Or am I misunderstanding the nature of an Order?

By Sean O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Saturday, November 07, 2009 - 04:29 pm: Edit

IIRC according to PD Klingons some orders get used more than others, and a particular order may fall into disuse or be revived by a particular Emperor. I'm sure there are some that are given out more rarely, just as there are rarely awarded medals.

Yes, there are orders of orders. Alphabetical order, chronological order, numerical order, astrological order...

WHOA! Hold the Presses! SVC has been listening to those Air Force tapes. He found out new things about the Klingon Army insignia. Check it out: http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/Klingon_Ranks_Army.pdf

Those higher ranking badges look to get pretty weighty.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, November 20, 2009 - 11:50 am: Edit

The higher generals can have their aides carry their insignia for them.

And another Customer Service Wednesday has come and gone and we have yet another play aid. This one is for the insignia for the Army enlisted ranks. http://www.starfleetgames.com/documents/Klingon_Ranks_Army_EMs.pdf

Thanks SVC!

I think SVC is having too much fun. We all know he enjoys doing ranks, medals, etc. ;)

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Thursday, December 17, 2009 - 07:48 pm: Edit

I did ask him to do us these for the Klingons.

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Friday, December 18, 2009 - 05:36 pm: Edit

I did it a week or two ago and it just got uploaded.

The history says:

1) The vegarians were in the Klingon and Old Kings Empire services.

2) They revolted and were crushed by the Klinks

3) Eventually they were sorta allowed to serve again in a limited fashion???

4) So when and how did they begin to serve again? Lacking guidance, I'd presume as infantry in assault units and for the most violent occupation duty? And any ship service would be limited and/ or closely monitored (if allowed at all)

By Jean Sexton (Jsexton) on Thursday, December 09, 2010 - 03:44 pm: Edit

Vergarians returned to space as a Klingon Subject Race in Y10. They revolted in Y12 and were thoroughly crushed by the Klingons. Rules were put into place to keep them from ever being a threat.

In Y74 the Vergarians were again allowed off-planet, but in limited numbers as crewmen on civilian merchant ships and as ground troops. They were never allowed as crewmen on warships.

In Y75, Vergarian assault regiments were formed, but were always supervised by Klingons. It took decades before any Vergarian was supervised by another of the Subject Races. Vergarians were banned from gaining officer rank until Y178.

This (and more) is all contained in Klingons PD20M.

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Thursday, December 09, 2010 - 07:22 pm: Edit

Vergarian mutineers were punished by being boiled alive and then covered in melted butter.

This (and more) is all contained in my twisted imagination. :)
