Hi,
I'm the chap working on the Federation CA. The info on the BBS and the resource page is now rather useful, hopefully my design has covered all the bases.
I've built the CA by using the Fed FF as a basis and looking at various existing maps and drawings to get the right size and contents.
My traveller plans are built from a set spec sheet showing, weight etc where I can work out exactly what is needed, SFB are more of a challenge, but not impossible.
I use Sketchup to draw the plans, then port it into Adobe Illustrator.

Ian, do you have a copy of the Franz Joseph Star Trek Technical Manual? If not, is there any information you need out of it?

I'd also want to make sure that Ian has access to a copy of the Franz Joseph deck plans. If not, I can take care of that.
Both the book and the deck plans are foundation documents for the SFU and should be the baseline for any new set of plans. Changes will, of course, need to be made to reflect where the ship went in the SFU, but FJS' drawings are where it started.

But we don't want to copy the Franz Joseph plans too closely. That is one reason I never tried to do an SFU Fed CA, I was far to familiar with the originals do be too different. It would be better to base it on existing plans and scale up appropriately. That will still ensure it has all the necessary components.

Actually, I really like the plans Ian has shown me so far just because they're not the FJ plans.
almost a sistership with very different internals.

Perhaps one set of plans could be for the older "R-series" ships, and the other for the new-build hulls built from the ground up as "modern" CAs?

I'd say lets just have a set of SFU plans and let people do what they want with whatever other deck plans they have.

Yeah, there are copyright issues involved, which is why I too stayed away from even thinking about doing any of the FJ ships.

We could use FJ but don't want to. It's more complex than copyrights.

Some SFU items are missing from the FJ plans, like docking ports, no spare shuttle storage, etc.

drone racks, phaser-3s.

Various bridges?
A bunch of tractor beams and transporter systems spead thoughout the ship.
IIRC, no APR either.

Thanks guys, I've seen FJ plans and I have the FJ Manual, just looked at not really followed.
I think the brig is missing anyway. Just working on the rear section. Couple of bits of the saucer section need filling in.
Yes I need to put in the probe launcher, drone rack and phaser-3 at some point.

Ian, if you're far enough along into the project, can you calculate the total deck area in square meters, please?

There's one just off the main bridge; what more do you need?
