Bummer, dude.

Garth, I hope your real life issues are getting squared away.
Anything we interested bystanders can do?
Make jokes? Throw stones (figuritive ones atleast...) at spambots? Design a travelers brochure for prospective passengers for Garth's value APT passenger lines?

Last major house project (siding) is going on this week. Two minor projects planned but not yet scheduled. Once these are done, I will have spent enough on the house to buy a pretty nice car. Not quite as much as I spent three years ago when we bought the two Subaru Imprezas, but one more project would put us close to that. It's been a busy summer.

Hey Garth!
Since SVC restarted the variant APT thread, is there any chance you might be interested in deck plans for some of them?
The four fighter escort carrier version would be interesting, not to mention a dedicated variant escort as well ...
Just asking!
Grin.

This is a little tangential; but trying to adapt what is published to other places:
The FT in PD has an overlay for troop variant. Do the barracks in these have just bunks (how many?), or do they include full head w/showers, etc.
Also, what would typical military truck look like size wise? Would it be a duce, HEMMT with flatbed…. (if "yes", I am guessing both sizes apply for different roles)
Finally, with heavy emphasis on logistics moving towards palletized and (either) 20' or 40'container shipping are the "forklifts" in deck plans that or would it more likely be something closer to the Kalmar RT240 RTCH?

That was two years ago?

Steve Cain:
-- Do the barracks in these have just bunks (how many?), or do they include full head w/showers, etc.
The SSD / Module M says the ship has 30 BP, each a 5-man unit, so that's 150 bodies. The largest of the three barracks spaces is 8 x 16 meters each. I made the standard bunks 1x2 meters, plus a half-meter between them. You can easily fit 25-30 two-tier bunk beds into that space. There's not a lot of room left over, however.
When I deployed to Panama back in 1988, the Army packed beds in tighter than sardines. They used three-tier bunk beds along the walls and in the center part of the room, and two-tier beds in the middle ring. They butted the bunks together with a sheet of plywood to separate them. You had to turn sideways to walk in the aisle between the rows.
-- What would typical military truck look like size wise?
You'd probably have to find good examples on-line and check Wiki to see if they list dimensions. That said, to fit the SFB standards, I'd suggest keeping it under 5x10 meters. No, check that. Annex #7K says they take 20, not 25, cargo points, so probably 5x8 meters.
-- with heavy emphasis on logistics moving towards palletized and (either) 20' or 40'container shipping
I'm not at all sure the FT would haul large containers but rather smaller crates perhaps up to 2x2x4 meters.
-- are the "forklifts" in deck plans that or would it more likely be something closer to the Kalmar RT240 RTCH?
I created a forklift icon, with seat and steering wheel like any warehouse uses. Looking at the FT plans, those look more like powered stackers / pallet jacks. I would think the dock would provide the heavy lift machines to load/unload the ship.
From e-mail:
-- how are the things like doors are superimposed on the walls.
-- how do you usually build a library of the stuff that goes in rooms?
I'm using a program called Floor Plan Plus v2.0, designed for Win-95. Yes, it's THAT old. It will not run on Win-10 or Win-7/62-bit. It does run on Win-XP and Win-7/32-bit. I do have TurboCAD, but that has a steep learning curve, so I stay with the old program.
Floor Plan Plus will "cut" the walls open for doors and windows. The lower-end TurboCAD Designer does not do that; you have to manually cut the walls. Or upgrade to TurboCAD Deluxe.
Floor Plan Plus was intended to draw houses, so it came with a decent icon library, with the ability to edit icons or create them from scratch. I made icons for everything from chairs and tables to shuttlecraft and drones.

Just a reminder to update this topic.
In the POL crew roster topic, SPP posted several things that affected the number of personnel that might be added to the normal crew roster as a result of commander options points.
We did discuss that early in the archives above, but I suspect that we had slightly different numbers than SPP posted. The point is, on the POL, the number of extra bodies amounted an extra 100 bodies on top of the 100 crew assigned To the POL.
That may mean, in this case, the APT will need the ability to carry the max possible under the COs rule.
To be specific, GARTH, read this carefully!
1. Without changing the cargo decks, a vanilla APT would need to be able to accommodate the normal 4 Crew Unit crew, as well as the 10 crew unit option for the C.O. Points.
2. In plain English, a APT that normally has only 44 bodies at any given time needs a surge capacity to handle something in the area of 150 bodies. That’s a lot of extra bunks that likely will seldom see any use.
Based on our earlier discussions, this might be a high hurdle.
