Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Prime Directive RPG: RPG PLAYTESTING: Archive through April 13, 2002

Yes, but not until much later. Between the core book and what "everyone" knows, there's a fair bit of info on the Feds.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Thursday, April 04, 2002 - 11:50 am: Edit

I suspect we'll do the Fed book after the Romulans, but we're basically going to make up the production plan as we go along, so it could be before the Roms or after the Felines.

Thanks for the info Gary, I'll see if I can track down the templates. As to what kind of fiction I'm writing, it is a story set in the early years and was originally intended to be for SFB only. One of the characters is a Female Kzinti that plays a key role in the story outcome. I was hoping to use the GPD info for character developement. As it stands now I won't finish the story before the projected release of GPD, so I may try for a combo sfb/GPD scenarion complement to the story. By the way I think that sentient Kzinti females are far more interesting than non-sentient ones. And would be a better fit to a role-playing game. I know my wife (who plays the Kzinti in sfb and is a roleplayer as well) would slash you to ribbons if you tried to call her non-sentient(wink).

Hugh: that is why I made it GM's option: anything that enhances my lifespan is good. :)

Gary, when were the Kzinti Cabals and Klingon Dagger teams organized first?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, April 08, 2002 - 01:54 pm: Edit

No data available. Probably early years.

By Hugh Bishop (Wildman) on Monday, April 08, 2002 - 02:19 pm: Edit

Thanks Steve.

"In the Early Years" is generally true for everyone, major or minor power. Exact dates TBA, as we write the sourcebooks.

Progress Report:
Chapter 0 (story): Finished.
Chapter 1 (concept): finished.
Chapter 2 (characters): I just finished the last RT changes and am arranging for a format check. Once that's done, I'll get the last part of Chapter 2 from Gary and format it.
Chapter 3 (attributes): Gary has finished this, I just need to read it after I finish Chapter 2.
Chapter 4 (skills): Same as 3.
Chapter 5 (rules): The first part is finished. A page or two of additional rules that Gary wrote to implement skills or ads/disads we needed have to be proofread by me before they go to SJ.
Chapter 6 (rewards): Most of this is finished; an extra page of rules added by Gary needs to be checked by me.
Chapter 7 (technology): I have the last draft and the reports on it. Once I'm done with those, I'm ready to send it for review.
Chapter 8 (background): I've got a few pages to write, like the definition of "sentient".
Chapter 9 (ship combat): Same as 7.
Chapter 10 (sample adventure): Gary has this finished but I haven't read it.

I feel like everytime you say the "S" word I should report to the booth. :p

S word?

Did make a bit more progress. One of SJG's top troops stepped up to the plate and agreed to take a swing at the format check. I should have it back from him fairly soon.

SVC: don't forget you haven't gotten the latest version of Impulse Engines added yet.

I've been holding it back until you get to 7, but as you brought it up here...

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 - 03:39 am: Edit

There's a later version of impulse engines? I am not getting my memos, I'm not not getting my memos.

Status report....
First ten pages sent to Gilson (final editor).
Another 9 pages to go to him today.
Most of Chapter 2-6 by Saturday.

Waiting now for technical review by Andrew Hackard and the last few pages from Gary Plana before finishing Chapter 2.

Gary says that 3-4 are done (just need SVC to read and edit and print out) and the three new pages of 5-6 are in the same boat.

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 04:08 am: Edit

SVC: Please send me a PDF of 7, whatever you've got. RTF or TXT is also OK, whatever you can dump to email conveniently is fine.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 09:49 am: Edit

Progress Report: As of 9am today, the first 45 pages are done.

(Many later pages are also done, but we're doing the final plow through from the front to the back.)

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 12:31 pm: Edit

More importantly, people: they're in PageMaker, which is how they go to press. 45 out of 160 pages.

OK, I have received and processed the racial template format editing report from Andrew Harkness, and a nicer guy to deal with on picky details like this you will never find. He's super at explaining why things have to be this way. SFB players don't know how easy they have it, as SFB formatting is much more relaxed than GURPS. But it's done. I see Gary's drafts of 2.6 and 2.7 in my inbox, and should have those done today.

Thanks for the progress reports, they are good to see.

Things are starting to move very fast.

By Randy Buttram (Peregrine) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 03:18 pm: Edit

I second the kudos for the 'up to the minute' progress reports. It reflects the urgency we are putting on you to get the product to us. :-)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 04:37 pm: Edit

PROGRESS. As of 3:36pm CDT, I just laid out page 53, which is the last page of Chapter 2.

I am ready for Gary to send me Chapter 3.

By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 08:26 pm: Edit

I'm glad to hear that Chapter 2's nailed down :)

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Friday, April 12, 2002 - 09:38 pm: Edit

Now, if Gary will just email me Chapters 3 and 4.

Finding those in my mailbox for breakfast and the missing parts of 5 and 6 after lunch would be nice.

By Gary Plana (Garyplana) on Saturday, April 13, 2002 - 03:46 pm: Edit

3 and 4 went to SVC about 6am Saturday morning.
