Apparently, Mark is still going to do the only stuff anybody wanted.
By Loren Knight (Loren) on Sunday, October 05, 2008 - 02:47 pm: Edit |
Mark told me that the FC stuff will still be done. If you look at his site there is a section for FC decal sets. This represents most races (several races on each set).
I am carefully going through the other sets to determin thos I need before they go away. You all have a little less than two week, if I understand things correctly.
I think is mighty nice of him to give us advanced warning (although I wish it had been thirty days, but two weeks is fair too).
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Sunday, October 05, 2008 - 02:51 pm: Edit |
The two weeks is indeed a nice warning. Gives me enough time to get one last big order blast in -I'd been planning on one for 6-months plus. This just kicks me into "do it now" mode.
By Jeremy Gray (Gray) on Sunday, October 05, 2008 - 07:18 pm: Edit |
Same here. He has another order inbound from me in a day or two.
By Mark Tutton (Starfighterace) on Monday, October 06, 2008 - 11:15 am: Edit |
A quick note, the inventory pages have been updated. For thoses who wanted those decals listed as Out of Stock, are now orderable.
Be aware, these orders will be filled, just not a quickly as in the past.

Listen up, everybody. I'm out of Decal Paper I use to make Fed Decals. Only God knows when I'll get more in. Could be 5 days, could be a month. Either way, it's going to be a while. You can still place your orders as I have some open stock, but any custom orders will have to wait.
Again, before ordering make sure you check the FAQ before ordering. If you are asking for stuff that is non-standard. Like 4 digit Hull numbers for a 3 digit class (I.e. FF, DW, HDW or DD) and you get it and it dosen't look right, too bad.
By Mark Tutton (Starfighterace) on Monday, October 13, 2008 - 09:45 am: Edit |
I have suspended most decal sales until Thursday or Friday. Only the Federation Commander sets will continue to be available. Sorry. Place your orders for the SFB stuff then.
By Mark Tutton (Starfighterace) on Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 12:10 pm: Edit |
I have "restocked" the web store and accepting orders for the Star Fleet decals again. You have until 6pm Friday to place your orders. There is a limited ammount of each decal set available for purchace. Orders will be filled as time permits, and availability of supplies. Expect waits of up to 6 weeks if you are ordering Federation Decals, especially custom name requests.
By Jeremy Gray (Gray) on Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 09:40 pm: Edit |
Mark,
Order placed. Please let me know if there are any issues (e-mail sent w/ custom names). Thanks again for giving us a last chance to make these orders.

Mark: I don't know what's going on in your life to provoke these outbursts of hostility, but I'm sorry you are upset about ... whatever it is you are upset about. Your customer service has always been ... well... terse would be one term, but something has turned you just nasty. ADB has supported you for years and every dime you have made from my customers has been because of that support. I haven't made a dime from you. If you want to keep doing decals, do so! If you don't, I cannot make you and you certainly do not expect me to beg you. Your last email talked about how badly I have treated you, but seriously, where, when, what? The only thing I can think of is that somebody else spelled your name wrong and the minute you complained to ME (you had never done so, despite being unhappy about that for some period of time) it was fixed. You sent me some stuff to upload and I sent it to the webmaster who didn't get it uploaded because he was in the hospital (he subsequently DIED). When you reminded me of it, it was uploaded the next day. (Hint: Months of stewing about how upset your were isn't my fault. All you had to do was ask me to fix it and it got fixed the next day. Get it?) Your idea that I am somehow orchestrating people to complain about you is just silly. If people are complaining about you, it's because of your public meltdown on the PHP forum and arrogant attitudes on the BBS and forum.

Note to everyone
I added decals to the web store that cover Tholian Attack, Orion Attack, and Distant Kingdoms. None are Squadron or Border box specific, except Border Box 5 (which is just insignia anyway). I also put the Fed CA and Klingon D6/D7 back up by request,as I still sell enough of these sheets to make it viable to do so.
I will also will e-mail anyone I find who is posting incorrect information about my business on-line on various public forums.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, January 26, 2009 - 04:24 pm: Edit |
Keep us informed, Mark. Note that your post of today is contrary to what you last told us. Other than our own forums, we haven't said anything about you (and then only what you said to us along with a best guess of what that meant since your info was incomplete) and certainly have not asked or told anyone to say anything (despite your claims we did), so if somebody is badmouthing you elsewhere, do let us know about it so we can also have it corrected.
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, January 26, 2009 - 09:58 pm: Edit |
It was me (maybe among others). There was no bad-mouthing, there was a misinterpretation of what had been posted before. It was corrected as soon as I was notified.

SVC: From the Fed Com Boards
Posted: Tue Oct 07, 2008 5:45 pm Post subject:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, to end some confusion hear.
1. I am not discontinuing the FedCom Decals. I pointed out the sets that are slow sellers. Unless sales pick up for those sets over the next year (Oct 2009) those too will be discontinued.
2. As pointed out by some others, many of the SFB sets are going away, not the Fed Com stuff. Many, many of the SFB stuff is duplicated in the FedCom line. Sales do not justify selling two differant branded items that are basically the same.
3. If customer requests are there, I will release FedCom Distant Kingdoms Squadron and Border Boxes. Based on past sales for Hydran and Lyran decal sets, I am not planning on it. Show me by requests that I should. Remember, Hydran and Lyrans are my favorites. Give me a reason to take the time to develop them. E-mail me with them, so I can keep track and not search forums to mesure interest or not.
4. Removing non-selling items releases more time to focus on what sells.
Look, producing decals for the SFU miniatures was a labor of love. Believe it or not, I have minis that go back to 1983 That's before some of you guys were born. When the technonolgy finally reached a level where I could design and print decals for my miniature collection, I did so. I answered the call from SVC 4-5 years ago for someone to produce decals, as I had a nice head start. Customers responded by buying what I was offering, and asked for more. Many of you folks actually helped with your input and suggestions. While it seems the market for SFB decals has been tapped out, FedCom branded stuff still sells enough to justify keeping it available on my web store. However, sales for my other products, started after selling decals for the SFU, has exploded. And my interest has been reduced in the SFU because of the actions of a select few. So something has to give, and this is it.
Please put away your Stawmen, Steve. Putting words in my mouth is one of the reasons your e-mail is blocked from my accounts, that and your accusation of using illegal drugs in the last series of e-mails you sent me pretty much shot any chance of honest dialog from you ever again.
Will is correct, he posted on another fourm some information that was not correct. I personally e-mailed him to correct the information posted. I have sceen other posting repeating similar information and unfortunatly there was no e-mail to respond to.
This hub-bub was started by someone who stuck his nose into my business, someone who had absolutly no clue what he was talking about. you made it worse by not reading what I actually wrote and put up straw men that had absolutly nothing to do with the topic. Because I suffer no fool, i was made out to be some bad guy with an ax to grind when actually I was showing this guy had absolutly no idea of what he was talking about. All I asked for was an apology from you, since you added fuel to the fire with your straw men(mis-spelled name debacle, non-posting of decal placement guides, etc...)and the next thing I know you accuse me of being an illeagal drug user and raving lunitic.
I re-introduced those products due to customer demand, as I said I would on the FedCom Forums (see above). I did it the was the CUSTOMERS requested, release decals, not in squadron or border boxes, but as generic sets based on Race. Since any idea of continunity in markings has been lost with the introduction of Federation Comander, and the realitive slow sales of this line vs my other decals (300 +/- SFB/FEDCOM decal sets vs 20,000+/- Military decals, model kits, resin accesories from Oct 2007-Oct 2008) I agreed with this and just re-issued these decals. Makes my 30 or so regular customers and 100 occasional customers happy, and I can keep my schedule intact in producing decal art work for my new clients in the Multi-million dollar Plastic Kit Market
So I apologize to everyone out there who was led to beleve I was some sort of crazy guy. I'm not. Many of you already know this. But until SVC publically apologises for his actions, I won't be visiting hear very often. Just to post any updates.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 - 01:06 pm: Edit |
I still need to know what actions I am supposed to apologize for, since every accusation made by Mark (including those in his post of today) is just plain false.
Mark turned nasty when I refused to change my religious beliefs to match his, and that's all there is to this whole thing.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 - 01:19 pm: Edit |
As of NOW, Mark, your posts on ADB's boards are limited to product line updates. Further extraneous garbage, phony accusations, and personal attacks are not allowed and will be deleted.
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 - 03:28 pm: Edit |
For the record, I chose to correct the post that Mark took umbrage to, because I will always take responsibility for any errors I make. It was an error on my part. My post had nothing whatsoever to do with any input from SVC (and any drama between Mark and he). A polite "please change your post to correct the error" from Mark would've been more than enough - it was certainly not what showed up in my in-box.
I did not reply to Mark's email, because I ceased doing any business with him late last year after the last dust-up on the FedCom board (which was the final straw in a list of Mark's own actions that I disagreed with). Using crass language to insult myself and others in his email to me just confirmed my feelings. I have removed the link to his website from mine, as well as editing any other posts on any boards I could access to delete any kind of recommendation to his business I have ever given.

Hi folks!
I'm in a quandary... I’ve developed a pretty good selection of decals for Starline 2400 ships. They look pretty good, and because I’m applying them to my ships before I release them, I know they work relatively well, too.
The problem is, I use the font specified in the “Star Fleet Technical Manual” for the Federation hull lettering, not the lettering that seems more common on the samples of ships I’ve seen. I think both look good, and both have advantages and disadvantages. Should I release what I’ve got now and be content that I use the exact font specified by Franz Joseph, or convert them to a font like everybody else uses, thereby delaying the release (not to mention having to remove all of the existing decals and applying new ones)?
Any thoughts?
Bob

Bob: Can you email me a pdf or jpg of what you're doing? I need it for the file if you're going to be listed as an official decals vendor anyway.
By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - 10:37 pm: Edit |
Bob -
FJS used Microgramma Ext for his ship lettering, which was likely something he could find as "rub-down" lettering. It was a pretty decent match for what was seen on tv.
I can only speak for myself, but I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of decals, and now produce my own. I vastly prefer a "closer to the real thing" look and use a font named Airborne (Amarillo is very close to this), both of which are recreations of the US Air Force font used on the original filming miniature. Vendors I used to buy from also used these fonts or one just like them.
By Bob Pomroy (Hobbybobp) on Thursday, August 13, 2009 - 09:25 am: Edit |
My font is Univers Bold Ext, which is very similar to Microgramma Ext. I do like the look of Airborne, too, which looks a lot "beefier" than Univers, and may be easier to read, as well. To me, Univers looks like lettering a mainly scientific Starfleet would use, and Airborne look like lettering a more military Starfleet would use.
I believe I'll try my current decal sheets with Airborne and see how they look. I can offer both, and let the customer decide which he or she wants.
Thank you very much for your input!
Bob

There has been some folks who transition from the "tv look" Amarillo/Airborne (with the angular corners) to the more rounded fonts like Microgramma at the point where the "wartime" red stripes on the saucer come in. In particular, on things like the SCS and other late-war ships.
The red stripes just kind of happened (Ted Geibel introduced them, IIRC; for no special reason other than that they looked spiffy) and they have wormed their way into the Fed ships visual identity (on game covers, minis decals, etc.).
The more rounded font does look good next to the red stripes, and has some visual foreshadowing of the trek movie ship markings.
I do most all of my minis as early GW-era ships, so I use the angular fonts almost exclusively.

Bob, looking forward to seeing your decals. I find decals are key to making a good looking Fed, and decal availability over the years has been hit and miss. I've considered doing them myself, but I never have the time and patience. I for one am very grateful to anyone who makes them available.
By Bob Pomroy (Hobbybobp) on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 - 07:28 pm: Edit |
Hey! I thought the red stripes were visual "leader" indicators. Hearing that they were only to look "spiffy," I may expariment with red/gray/red stripes, ala ST:TMP.

Hi folks!
I just want to point out that a new source of SFU decals is now available. A link to Pomroy Productions has been added to the Miniatures page. I want to manage expectations here: my web skills leave a lot to be desired; however, as of 4:30 Central time, most of the site is working correctly. As time goes on, I'll be adding more images, both of models wearing my decals, and the decals themselves. Feel free to take a look, and don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm glad to oblige!
