Download Transmissions
The latest Communique brings you more Ship Cards, scenarios, fiction, and more news from the Star Fleet Universe! It can be downloaded from the Commander's Circle. Don’t forget, you have to register before being able to download the latest full color Communique! Star Fleet Universe News The product schedule, delayed by the death of SVC's mother, and further delayed by "the building project", has now been reset;see the new schedule at right. We moved Squadron Boxes #16, #17, and #18 back to February because the wholesalers needed the extra month to process the price change (caused by the 70% increase in production costs for the unusually large ships in those boxes). This moved Distant Kingdoms back to March, which allowed us to ship Briefing #1 in February. Doing a schedule of products involves many factors: designer time, book printing, cover printer, wholesaler schedules, budgets, artist deliveries of the covers, and much more. Our project to build a new corporate headquarters continues to move on. We now own the land and are working with an architect to finalize the designs. View regular updates on this project. Our combined and reorganized website, www.StarFleetGames.com, continues to grow and improve. You are welcome to send us your requests, comments, and suggestions. We are looking for a few good Star Fleet Ambassadors! Our marketing director can't be everywhere and that's where you come in! Do you go to gaming forums like Board Game Geek, RPG Net, or The Miniatures Page? Then WE NEED YOU! To get complete details of the Ambassador program, please see the Federation Commander Ambassadors category on the Federation Commander forum. Have you missed an earlier Newsletter? Click here to get caught up! FC Forum Hot Topics The Federation Commander Site and Forum continues to grow as more gamers find it. We have added a new section to the Forum called Web Requests. If you have any comments, questions, or requests for our Graphics Director, this is the place to let him know. This month’s Hot Topics include a thread titled “FedCom battle report in the new issue of Fictional Reality” which can be found in the General Discussion category and "Same-hex combat" which can be found in the Rules Questions category. For new players, the Federation Commander Forum is a little easier to manage whereas the Legacy Discus BBS can be a bit overwhelming. Come see what the commotion is about and join the Federation Commander Forum now! FC Tactic of the Month Are you flying a Federation ship? Federation ships have fewer drone racks than Klingons or Kzintis, so you need to pay attention to the drone game or it will eat your ships alive. Things get worse in multi-ship battles, where the drone advantage of the enemy ships escalates astronomically. You are going to be forced to use your drones defensively most of the time. If the enemy does not launch on the first turn, take advantage of the opportunity to use your drones offensively. Sure, the enemy will probably destroy them, but that means weapons (of whatever sort) are not targeted on your ships. Count how many drones you can launch, divide by two (assume half of them won't get through), and multiply by 12 (warhead points per drone). Then compare the result to the box count of your possible targets, and pick one that you can cripple (one with about twice as many boxes, or three times as many victory points). Launch all of your drones targeted on this ship. (More...) Café Press is an online marketplace that allows the Star Fleet Universe to produce unique products such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, tote bags, and more with the Star Fleet logos, cover art, and other artwork used for our products. We have added tons of new shirts, mugs, and other products. Want something you don’t see? Please contact Matt Cooper (Graphics Director) with your request. Visit our Star Fleet Café Press Store for a complete listing of the products available. SFB Tactic of the Month When flying Andromedans against races that are using a lot of seeking weapons (drones in particular), you can use a satellite ship in a "forward defense" role to help remove them from tracking your fleet. This requires you to retain: First, maneuver to get the seeking weapons into one general "area" (a specific weapons arc, like Left), and close to each other. (More...) F&E Strategy of the Month All Hydran players know they face an uphill battle in the electronic warfare-game, especially when faced with the evil Lyran tactic of mass converting DWSs and utilizing them in battle groups. Sure, Advanced Operations helped with scout pallets (also available to the Lyrans though), and three 'free' PGS ships, but with the Hydran economy is strained by the invasion and the PGSs can rarely be risked on the line as they are essentially irreplaceable. (More...) Mini of the Month Every month we will feature one of our miniatures that has been painted by a fan. If you paint miniatures, submit your pictures and you may be our next Mini of the Month! New Releases Communique #24 has posted to the Commander's Circle RECENTLY RELEASED TO BE RELEASED ON 14 JANUARY TO BE RELEASED ON 18 FEBRUARY TO BE RELEASED ON 17 MARCH TO BE RELEASED IN APRIL TO BE RELEASED IN MAY Star Fleet Fiction Bridge of the D6B 25-Atropos 15 Parsecs from the Kzinti star system of Luminan 11 November Y169 "Keep her hard to port, Kerdak. Come about full! Weapons, take out those drones. Disruptors on my order!" commanded Captain Garaan Fergor. The ship leaned hard to the left, so much so that the ship's inertial dampner systems didn't counter the full effect. Commander Korgan Marset, the first officer, had to take a step to balance himself while peering into the tactical scanner monitor. "Captain!" shouted Korgan, "Anti-Drone rack is now depleted; reloads also depleted! Frigates Zursk and Beast have sustained heavy damage and are withdrawing!" (More...) Ask Admiral Growler BOARDING PARTIES ANSWER: There is no provision anywhere in the rules for placing boarding parties into cargo boxes. For a house rule, you might apply (G25.133), which would seem to imply that each crew unit takes up about 20 cargo spaces, but I would be dubious about the life support capacity of the ship. (More...) Federation & Empire Q&A QUESTION: If the survey ship (542.27) is crippled, does the player have to pay to repair it? Or does he only lose one turn of survey and the ship returns to duty? In other words, is (542.27) "crippled" in the normal sense of the term, or this just a special one-turn delay? ANSWER: If it was a special one-turn delay, it would say so. Crippled means crippled, and you'll have to have the ship repaired (presumably by the off-map starbase) and pay the cost of doing so before the ship can resume surveying. (Notes made during the design process means that we did consider this and use the proper term.) QUESTION: The Klingons send their survey ships into Lyran Off-Map territory and start rolling for new provinces. But are not the Klingon survey ships required to be in supply from the main grid? How does the money reach the Klingons? ANSWER: This is part of their treaty with the Lyrans. The Klingon survey ships get to count Lyran bases in their supply chain, and use those bases as strategic movement nodes to send the money home. This is at no cost to the Klingons or Lyrans and the cargo ships involved in carrying the money are subsumed into the game's background, not seen on the map. STAR FLEET ALERTS These are the press releases we send to the wholesalers, retailers, and media. You can get on the mailing list for them by asking Marketing@StarFleetGames.com to add you to the list. (Obviously, they are free.) They are uploaded to the Star Fleet Alert page. New Alerts will be posted next week. Raiders! The long-awaited light raiding dreadnoughts are now in production.
