THE RAID AND STEAL
- Commander Scott Tenhoff, USS California
Now a crafty, devious, player will think about that for a moment and think "Just what is worth two of MY economic points?" Well, specialty ships are worth paying economic points to capture (or to deny them to your opponent), obviously.
But what about the need of them being "crippled", yeah well you have to take that into your own hands and cripple them during your Raid Phase (say by a DNL with a Prime Team), Carrier/PF Raid, or Drone Raid. Since all Raids are simultaneous, you conduct your ship raid first to cripple your target (hopefully), then conduct the Espionage and Sabotage attack to capture it (if it was not destroyed, or forced to retreat farther than three hexes from the Strategic Movement node). If you succeed, it then goes to your Strategic Movement Node within three hexes and you move it away from the battlefront on your Movement Phase of the same turn (no recapture by your opponent).
But just what Size Class-4 specialty ships are there, which can be raided? Well mobile carriers are out (very difficult to cripple in a raid), but Scouts could be high on the list depending on the numbers of scouts in theater, DB ships (Z-DF or Z-SDF or even Z-SDW), HDWs (it is a Size Class-4 ship), FFXs (another Size Class-4 ship), or FCRs.
So you have quite an opportunity to deliver a one-two punch on selected targets if you are lucky with Raids and the Espionage and Sabotage missions combined
