I took a break from painting for a short while and haven't posted any new pics. This is what I have been working on for the last couple of weeks. I hope you enjoy !
I recently purchased two blank (unpainted) 1 1/2 inch hex space maps from Monday Knight Productions for under $50. I decided to paint them myself to save me some money. I lightly sprayed the nebulas and dust cloud using Wal-Mart paint. I thne stole some of my wife's fabric paint and painted stars until I could not go anymore (10hrs+ for both maps). I would advise you to purchase a larger size hex if you play either of the major drone races, because it can become kind of tight in large battles.

This is a picture of a dragon that my nephew gave me years ago. He was going through the dragon/dinosaur/godzilla/king gadora phase, which was really fun .

This is a picture of a Space Amoeba that I made using liquid latex (mold builder) and some odd bits.

This is a couple of pics of some DefSats that I made using wood balls and the tops of clothing pins.

Gorn Light Cruisers factory 2nds, kind of tells you what I thinkd of the Gorn huh? Just joking.

Romulan Ships with plasmas made from aluminum roil, spray paint and E-Z liquid resin.

Orion Ships all acquired from trades (steals) except for one purchased in cruise box #2. I have my principels to uphold you know .
I painted them black mixed with a little silver to give it a stealthy look. Note the Orion DN in the front in the first pic. Can't see it? See how stealthy they are, good job Scoutdad.

Hydran Dragoon with Stingers (fleet Scale). The stingers are kind of hard to see. I made them using thin card board and clothing pins

I hope I did not burn you out with too many pictures. My next project is making a couple of Orion captains. I am making one for me and one for a friend who likes to play the Orions. Then I will be doing some ships for a friend. When I finish these two projects, I will then turn back to completing my fleets by starting on the fast cruisers. I recently got my hands on a D-7 from the 2200 series that I am going to make into a FD-7. I will use John Schneder II
's guide, but I plan to extend the boom a little bit.

The FD-7 guide was published by John Scneder of Battlegroup Cinncinatti. While I thoroughly approve of being confused with someone as talented as is John, I can not take credit for his work. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Major bits snipped to reduce reply length:

I have two of the MKP maps that they painted. I think I have enough projects ongoing right now. I couldn't even begin to image painting a map myself. You did a great job however and he MKP maps are awesome products. I highly recommend them for everyone.
Dragon: That's actually a pretty cool choice for a Space Dragon. Our group has only used one once, so I've not been out actively seeking a mini - but I do keep my eyes open in case I find one I like.
malleman wrote: | Gorn Light Cruisers factory 2nds, kind of tells you what I thinkd of the Gorn huh? |
John Erwin Hacker aside , I have about 100 Gorn ships (many of them from factory seconds) that I just can't bring myself to paint. I guess you can tell how I feel about the Gorn as well.
mallman wrote: | Romulan Ships with plasmas made from aluminum roil, spray paint and E-Z liquid resin. |
I made plasmas from a bunch of plastic sequin pins I found on ebay years ago. You can see them on my website. Since then, our FLGS has closed out their KenzerCo. product line and I snatched up about 8 packs of the "fireball" minis. I intend to paint those as plasmas...

I'm glad you approve, but even I didn't think it'd look that stealthy...

I enjoyed the photos. Nice work - keep it up.
I'm waiting to see the Orion Captain as well. I should have got you to do a Hydran Captain for me to take to Origins as a good luc charm. I could have used it.
Can't wait for the FD-7, but that guide was done by John Schneder, not me. I submitted an article about "how to paint Lyrans with cat stripes / colors" that has not yet been released by ADB. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Malleman, Those are excellent work. I like the color choices for the various races and I really like the photo composition. the assault of the starbase and the Lyran / Kzin fleet face-off are quite goos.
Keep up the great work and keep posting photos to keep inspiring us to finish what's sitting on our own work benches. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Sorry John,
It was late last night when I was posting the pics. In my excitement of taking on the project of making a FD-7 (inspired by you I bought minis to make fast cruisers for all of the races I collect) I got your guide mixed up with one of Scoutdad's announcements of posting a guide. Again, I appologize and should have checked my sources . I have since gone back and edited the orginal post.
Scoutdad,
I actually like the Gorn ships. They are easy to prepare and paint. The factory 2nds that I purchased were as good as regulars, just with a little work added. Besides, they are really nice when they blow up !
Hydran Captain voodoo doll? Made of clay, that way you can squash it in front of your opponets .
I forgot to add one of my other projects. I am going to make a generic view screen. One of the guys in our group likes to role play as we play a game. He talks in character as he attacks you, so I plan to make a view screen for him to use as he communicates with us . |

malleman -
Those look wonderful. I like how you choose to modify a lot of your minis to your own interpretation. It takes guts to be different. I'm an SFU-purist myself, but I can certainly appreciate the work you put in.
Never, ever, *too* many pictures. If you think about it, there are less than two-dozen people on this planet who post pictures of their ADB minis on the internet (at least as far as I am aware). We're a rare breed and more pics from us might inspire others to do the same.
I'm always intrigued by how other people choose to do their finishing jobs on these same minis that I know so well.
It must have been tedious painting all those stars on the maps! I would've drafted my wife for that - she likes tedious things (sorting buttons, rolling pennies, living with me, etc.). _________________

Boy, you guys are really brave. Or is it the case that your C-in-C Domestic Command doesn't look at this sight? That's about the only time I'd be that brave (which being married to a red-haired irish lady is entirely understandable ). _________________ Nothing is quite as persuasive as a disruptor pistol on slow burn and a rotisserie...... |

I read these posts to my wife whenever something this funny pops up.
She knows that the only thing I like more than SFB/FC/F&E is her and she finds the comments somewhat amusing, too.
Actually, she's just glad that my hobbies are not illegal, immoral, and dangerous. And whenever I leave the house on Friday night - she knows I'm hanging out with my "geeky" friends and not going to the local strip club / tavern / den of ill-repute! _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

I'm in the same boat as Scoutdad.
My wife thinks I'm a big old nerdie-nerd, but she also knows I'm not off getting into trouble, nor am I blowing huge amounts of money on a boat, motorcycle, hot car, etc.
She was sitting right next to me when I wrote that and laughed when she read it. _________________

But, if you're any kind of miniatures gamer...
you can spend as much on lead (well, OK pewter) each year as some of your cool-guy friends do on boats, motorcycles, hot cars, etc.
I know I do! Does that make mea "cool-guy" nerd??? _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Besides, I don't have to blow money on the hot cars part of it. My wife does that for me...
She's the one that bought me the hot, Solar Yellow Dakota Sport I driving as a surprise anniversary present!!!
Thank God for loving, supportive, geek-enabling wives. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro
