Hey, I'm not that familiar with the Orions, never played them but I'm building a bit of a fleet of miniatures to represent them. Some, nay most, of the miniatures I have ATM are actually FASA Trek miniatures. Specifically I picked up two of the Wanderer Blockade Runners and three Lightnings to go with my SFU OK6 Cruiser. I'm wondering, what was sort of _the_ Orion ship (comparable to say the Fed CA or Klingon D7, likely the Orion ship from TOS) which would be appropriate to represent the Wanderer (after that I can pick some little cousins for the Lightnings). Don't think I have any of the Orions ships myself, so I'll have to go pick up some more boosters or even Orion Attack if I can find it in local stores.
Speaking of orion attack, I noticed it's missing from the product list off the main page: http://www.federationcommander.com/product_list.shtml. Though it IS in the online store. |

Actually while I was perusing the miniatures on the online store, looking at a bunch of things I can't currently afford, I noticed that the Battle Raider seems to be the de facto main ship for the Orions. Seems like a good fit for the Wanderer. I guess I'll have to go grab Booster#3 after all. Weird that I don't have it, as I thought I'd grabbed all the Kzintis already (Kzintis feature prominently in B#3). My buddy buys all the main supplements so I just focus on boosters and miniatures for myself, with the occasional spare parts rulebook or what not.
And yeah, I know OA is in the online store, but it was missing from the product list. Think someone just missed updating the latter. |

Actually the quintessential Orion is probably the Light Raider. For years it was THE Pirate Raider with the occasion CR Raider acting as a heavy.
With the event of the General War the CR Raider let alone the Light Raiders were rapidly becoming rapidly out gunned. To provide a sutiable Raiding Vessels the Cartels came up with several different ships, the War Destroyer, the Double Battle Raider, and the Battle Raider. Any of these ships started becoming your standard raider meanwhile there were still a lot of Light Raiders that were paired up or even trippled up to keep raiding convoys or working with the DW, DBR, or BR. _________________ -Dal

I would say the LR is the "classic" Orion ship, but as Dal says, once the General War kicked off properly, they rapidly found themselves outgunned against increasingly heavy escorts etc.. The BR is probably one of the "most used" larger Orion ships, as it is flexible and is of a size roughly comparable to most war cruisers. Check out the ships in Orion Attack for some even larger Orion ships such as the CA, BC and BCH. |
