if you're looking for the 2-3 character alpha-numeric codes, then here are the missing ones:
Battle Cruiser is BC
Old Light Cruiser is CL
Survey Cruiser is GSC (Galatic Survey Cruiser)
Frigate is FF
War Destroyer is DW
Heavy War Destroyer is DWH
Battleship is BB
Fast Carrier would be CVF _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

Well a quick google search gave me FCF (for the Cruiser). Which would make the frigate, I dunno, FFF? Seems kinda dumb. But who knows.
I'm probably wrong. |

The Fast Cruiser is a CF. That "FCF" Google result is probably someone's personal short-hand for Federation Fast Cruiser.
The Frigate is FF. Once refitted, it is FFG (because it carries "guided weapons", i.e. drones). The same with the DN dreadnought becoming the DNG. FedCom focuses on the refitted General War era versions of ships (for the most part).
In the list at the start of this thread there is an error. The New Fast Cruiser is NCF (for Fast), not NCS (which isn't a ship in the game, but presumably could be a New Strike Cruiser someday). _________________

That FCF is a Fast Carrier Resupply Ship. Basicly the FCR resuppplies standard fighters, FCF resupplies Heavy Drone Based Fighters and FCA Resupplies Heavy Direct Fire Fighters.
This is a class of ships I am almost postives we will never see in FC but might pop up in a BoM someday. _________________ -Dal

No. The Federation doesn't figure into the equation.
the alpha-numeric codes are the same for all races and are based on Earth, wet-navy designation system.
CA = Cruiser, Armored (or Heavy Crusier)
CL = Cruiser, Light
DD = Destroyer
FF = Frigate
CV = Cruiser, aViation (or Carrier)
DW = War Destroyer
and so on.
The 3rd character was added to designate variants...
DN = Dreadnought
DNE = Dreadnought, early variant
DNG = Dreadnought, Guided missile variant
DNL = Dreadnought, Light
etc.
or,
NCA, Cruiser, Armored, New style (or New Heavy Cruiser)
DWH = War Destroyer, Heavy
Every empire uses the same designation [Well, actually they probably have their own designations... but for simplicity - we use standardized designations]; therefore, a Kzinti Dreadnought is a DN, a Lyran Dreadnought is a DN, and a Federation Dreadnought is a DN. _________________ Commander, Battlegroup Murfreesboro

So far so good. Another noob question. The W is for war. Am I correct is assuming that it refers to the General War? If so is it correct that Fed ships with this designation are the ones that get the double red ring around the saucer? |

Ah, yes, but a Klingon Battle Cruiser is a D7, and a Klingon Dreadnought is a C9. So it doesn't ALWAYS work. _________________ Garth L. Getgen

Technically there really is not a offical policy on the Combat Rings/Battle Circles/Round Racing Stripes. It is all upto your personal taste.
Now a lot of people like those details because the dress up a plainish hull in thier opinion. And if you follow the logic that it was something done at the start of the General war then any hull type can have them as they are probably repainted as they come in for Overhauls and to get Battle Damage patched up. Just like it is possible that some ships fought the whole war and were never repainted. _________________ -Dal

To answer the question above (since we all kind of talked around it), yes, typically W refers to a "wartime" construction ship. It usually refers to the "cheap and/or easy to build, just as mean, won't last as long and we don't care since it's probably going to get blown up before it wears out" ships like the War Destroyers and New Heavy Cruisers. The Federation New Light Cruiser also fits this mold.
Regarding the red "saucer rings" - Personally, I follow the overall direction the cover art has typically taken and generally only apply them to war ships (most often "late"-er war ships like the SCS and BC). They look cool, but I usually go for more of a "TV" look. Having them on the "war" ships really does give them a unique look so they stand out. _________________
