I did a forum search on this and didn't find an answer.

Are there any current plans to include rules for seperated booms and saucers in FC?

I have mixed feelings about including them. I don't think it would add an inordinate amount of complexity, but I'm also not sure that there is really a "need" for them.

I am quite happy with one sort of drone, and with fighters being pretty much restricted to Hydrans or BoM. So I don't feel the need to see every unit type and special gimmick of SFB reflected in FC.

Mostly my curiosity come from a modelling perspective. Having a couple of models of seperated ships would be cool. Getting to use them in a game would be cooler still.

Looking at the relative fragility of ships, especially in fleet scale, I am not sure booms and saucers would have enough survivability to make them useful in general games. Maybe a specific scenario or two featuring a seperated ship or a detached boom or saucer fleeing a (weak) enemy towards the safety of a rescue ship or escort. If such a scenario would be of interest I'll try and write one up along with just enough rules to make it work, mainly the ship card I think.

There are a few in the game so far.

There is the Klingon B10 separated Boom card in Communique #26, which is used in a scenario from FC Line of Battle. That thing is a beast, and nearly a battlecruiser, so it can survive.

The scenario Return of the Hood (in a Captain's Log 34?) just has the players cross off all the boxes in the rear hull and the warp engines. This one is a bit more fragile, and can have a tough time facing off against a frigate (as in the scenario).

It would be extremely difficult to include boom/saucer separate into Federation Commander, even as Borders of Madness, because the fleet scale ships were not designed to reflect the possibility of separate. So, you have many fleet scale Klingon ships with no "boom impulse". Even some squadron scale ships are a little jumbled, but the deal breaker is the fleet scale ships.

Now, there is likely to be multiple scenarios that include separated sections (like the two the giant robot mentioned), but those will be on a case-by-case basis, and won't include separation as a option during the scenario. (I.e. the section(s) start the scenario already separated.)

Thanks for the answers. I was curious as to how they would be treated in FedCom. The solution seems an elegant one.
