OK, I have played the scenario 8CM23 (Pickett's Charge) from Communique #36 three times so far. Always as the Lyrans. Lost all three battles , with different levels of defeat but with always the same result : opponent would destroy the repair ship AND successfuly escape.
I admit these were my first and only times playing as a Lyran, but even so, the scenario seems unbalanced against the Lyrans.
My question is, has anybody had a Lyran victory in this scenario and if so, could you share your tactics ?

Well... Has any Lyran here ever prevented Captain Pickett from accomplishing his mission ? I am planning to try it one more time this weekend with the improved Lyran Heavy Destroyer and Heavy Frigate from Captain's Log (#34 I think), but I am curious if anybody has beaten the scenario with the original configuration. |

I've never actually played it, but looking at the scenario it doesn't look that bad for the Lyran player. Exactly what I would do would probably depend heavily on the approach the fed player took - does he barrel in, photons pre-armed and loaded on turn 1 hoping to strike and be gone ASAP, or does he take it bit more cautiously to see what the lyran escort does? |

Actually the two different opponents I played this scenario with had similar tactics. They approached cautiously , giving time to load the photons.
Reading about Lyran tactics I realize my mistake now. I charged towards the Fed trying to get him in turn 1 before the photons were loaded. By doing that I did not have enough energy to fully load the ESG's or overload disruptors, which made my charge ineffective. In the following turns I would try to stay way from the FA arc and get the CC from behind, which allowed him to eventually close on the freighter and destroy it (1 alpha strike from a CC is enough in the case of a small freighter).
I will try again, with the same ships, WAITING for the Federation cruiser to approach. Will have fully loaded ESG's and energy to spare. And he will have overloaded Photons ... Let's see how it plays out. |

The fed needs to get close to fire photons. Once he's there, plug him with ESG's. |
