This scenario came from Captain's log 36. Why do the plants gain points for thier ships being damaged, or is that supposed to read "lose" instead of "recives"? |

It is explained later in the same paragraph.
The victory points the Plants receive for having their own ships be damaged reflects the economic harm they have caused the Gorns. It is to force the Gorns to not just blow all of the Plant controlled ships up. _________________

Who cares!? They are Evil Parasitic Plants!!
But, seriously, the plants are parasites that cannot achieve space flight on their own. They need hosts. When the Gorn came by, they became targets of opportunity.
Really, it is just another example of the "Mind-Control Parasite" theme. Two major examples in the SFU are the Sigviron from Omega, and the World of Unions from the Triangulum Galaxy in E2. The idea was used in a Season 1 TNG episode. It has been used numerous times in other SF stories. _________________
