I always feel bad, hacking up a perfectly good mini. Trust me, it's all for a good cause.

Pretty cool Jeremy.

I can't help but notice the resemblance to the "Deck Fighters" from "The Last Starfighter". Intentional homage?

If so, I have color counters from the old FASA game I could gift you as stand-ins until your minis are done.

My daughter and I just re-watched that one on DVD two nights ago (as there was nothing worth watching on the TV). You have to love cheesy science fiction films:
Alex: "I've been to another planet, Ma!"
Alex: "Hi Mags"
Granny: "Be sure'n write. Or whatever it is they do up there."

I haven't seen that movie in years and years. But I still remember (vaguely) my favorite exchange from the movie:
Kid: "It's gonna be a slaughter!"
Lizard Dude: "That's the spirit!"
Kid: "Not them! US!"

It's a classic (if cheesy). It's also the first major use of CGI for "photo-realistic" special effects (even if the results were pretty primitive). Everything CGI in films before that had always been done in fantasy or psychedelic settings (like in TRON) to make its limitations just part of the look.

The Last Starfighter blazed the trail for all the cool (and cheap enough to have lots) FX we get in movies these days (sometimes to a fault; *cough* Lucas *cough*).

Well, cats out of the bag on these two:

MY DAY: 27 April (Monday) 2009
...Email: Will McCameron offering to do F5W and HF5 minis (I told him to do them)....

That's not how Daddy spells the last name, but it don't matter. I'm still pretty happy to get a crack at these (the F-5W in particular is an A-list ship, so I'm stoked to be the one to get to master it).

I have another (unannounced) one on the workbench right now, but once it's finished and shipped a bunch of stock Klingon F-5's go under the knife to create their bigger brothers.

Kodan Officer: Guidance system out. Auxiliary steering out.
Lord Kril: Divert! Divert!
Kodan Officer: She won't answer the helm! We're locked into the moon's gravitational pull. What do we do?
[sound of Lord Kril's eyepiece swinging over left eye]
Lord Kril: We die.

"Terrific. I'm about to get killed a million miles from nowhere, with a gung-ho iguana who tells me to relax!"

Robert Preston had some of the best lines in the movie:
"Oh-ho-ho... He reduces me to abject poverty and he thinks I'm giving him a gift!"

"...and did Guloca think the Uuloos were to ugly to save?"

"No, it wasn't a sword in a stone. It was a video game."
